First time getting a haircut with Joshua after almost a year of growing out my hair. Very happy with the result!

Joshua is fantastic - he's precise, efficient, and has great taste. I wanted to try a perm hairstyle at the beginning of this year and Monterey Hair Salon stood out during my search because of the glowing reviews. The services have more than lived up to the reputation. I've now gotten my hair cut and permed by Joshua twice - the first time wavier and the second time curlier after I got a feel for how my hair would look. Each time Joshua patiently explained how he thought we could accomplish the look I wanted, how the cut would evolve, and offered his suggestion while still leaving it up to me to decide. Each time I've left Joshua's shop I've been thrilled with the outcome. Prices are very reasonable too - I'd highly recommend Monterey Hair Salon to anybody looking for a great haircut and quality service.

I had a complex hair color issue and this salon was able to fix it quickly and efficiently. The stylist who did my hair was punctual and professional, and he really went above and beyond to make sure I was happy with the results. This salon is reliable and their stylists are highly skilled. I will definitely be going back for all my hair needs.

I've been to Joshua a few times now and I'm starting to feel compelled to spread the word. I used to go to the fancier salons in the city, but bounced around a lot because I was never satisfied and they're a PITA to get to. Joshua is better at his job than most high-end salon stylists I've been to. There is an actual 2-way conversation in which he LISTENS, asks questions & makes suggestions (without steamrolling you). Raise your hand if you've ever had an overeager stylist use you as a guinea pig for the trendy new technique they just learned, regardless of your desire, hair type or style. 🙋‍♀️ He's super efficient and makes it look easy, too. Come in with clean, dry hair. You're not getting that aromatherapy shampoo and scalp massage here but I really appreciate that he seems to take into account my hair's texture and how it naturally falls/how I style it. I should note I've only had cuts, no color service (yet), but I'd trust him to do that if I decided to. Walking distance for me but there's also plenty of *free* street parking in the neighborhood. The salon itself isn't trendy but it is pretty, comfortable and clean. Easy to book online. Appointments start on time. And it's worth noting that there's bomb pizza next door and a great taco truck across the street. Overall it's not the same "luxe" experience you'll pay $200 for elsewhere in the city, but honestly I'm paying so much less for overall better experience and most importantly, a better outcome at Monterey Salon with Joshua.

If I could I would give 0 stars to that place, incredibly rude and incompetent staff. Use their services if you want to ruin your mental health and overall your mood. Terrible place!

Josh is one of the best barbers and hair stylists. Hard to find a place that has reasonable prices, but stellar skill and professionalism. Quickly understood my haircut, faded sides, combover and remembers that style each time i go back to see him. And I’ve been back for over a year. Easy and quick to book a reservation thru Google and payments thru venmo or any other forms of transactions. Highly recommend people, male or female, to stop by for a haircut!

Joshua is an excellent barber, and runs a great shop: the shop is spotlessly clean, booking is super simple, with great availability, and is very reasonably priced. He's a very hard working guy who takes his job seriously, but is always a pleasure to speak with, and I'm always very happy with the results. Top class!

Just called them and they didn’t even want to reply to me. Were keep being rude and telling me they don’t do simple things that every hair salon does. Responding to your comment: Absolutely a lie. You replied to me by saying “YES” , without even introducing yourself to me and being rude from the start. I asked not about hair extensions. I asked if you can put a simple Pony Tail that I already have, you just have to install it. What kind of salon can’t put a pony tail on ? I don’t have to prove myself to you I just know that other people will call you and find out what kind of salon this is. Who taught you to tell your clients they are uneducated because they asked for a service? 👎🏼

Salon-quality styling at great prices. My cut/style with Joshua is $35 (I also include 20% tip, $7) and it only takes 20 or 30 mins. At many salons, I’m used to paying $65-$85 for a shampoo, cut, dry, and style, so I feel lucky to have found such a great deal at Monterey Hair Salon. Joshua gets the shape of my hair just right with only scissors, a spray bottle, and a little bit of blow drying! He doesn’t use products or sprays on my hair, he just shapes it with the cut warm/cool air from the dryer, which I love because it’s how I prefer to style it myself. I’ve been in three times this year and definitely plan to return.
