Just got the perfect haircut and styling from Ian! He’s not only the kindest but also insanely talented. He took the time to really listen to what I wanted and was so meticulous about perfecting the cut. Nothing felt rushed, and I walked out feeling like my hair looks the best it has in ages. I am a natural redhead/strawberry blonde, which can be a challenge for colorists, and Ian did a fantastic job! I love my color and cut! Lauren did such an amazing job with my color - its exactly what I wanted. I have been to a lot salons before finding Lauren and she’s simply the best! She fully transformed my hair color and managed to make it look natural and healthy. I also got my haircut by Ian- he’s fantastic and I love what he did. I’m never going anywhere else to get my hair done.

One of the best, if not the best, salon experiences I've ever had. I got a phenomenal cut from Victor, who is kind, thoughtful, & talented. One of the things that really struck me was how throughout the cut he continually checked in with me to see if I liked what he was doing, as well as explaining why he was doing what he was doing - this seems to be a salon wide ethos, because I overheard the stylist next to us doing the same thing, and it really set such a wonderful tone for the experience. I have a short cut, so often I feel like my cuts are rushed, so it was really nice to feel like Victor was really paying attention to every detail. I don't even live in NYC but will be coming back for my cuts whenever I can.

I got my hair colored and styled at Mott for my birthday and I cannot rave enough about my whole experience. As soon as I walked in the vibe was welcoming, chic, and very clean. I chatted with my stylist (Lauren) and showed her pictures of what I wanted. I was a little hesitant as I have very thick hair and have had bad luck in the past other stylists. She captured EXACTLY what I wanted and more. The color was perfect and far better than I ever thought it could be. I felt so beautiful and completely fabulous walking out. Best experience I've ever had!

I have been a client at Mott since it has opened. The space & staff are lovely. I see Lauren for color and Eric for cuts. Both stylists are super talented. I am obsessed with their work. I’ve gone to Lauren for color several times now. Whether I want a subtle change in my look or a bold statement, Lauren has always been up to the challenge. Her eye for color and detail are amazing and she always nails whatever ideas I come in with.

This experience ruined the entire integrity of my hair. When one is paying for a service that is at the upper end of the market rate , you expect a certain end product and my experience with Lauren (Color Director) fell severely short of expectations. I am not one to ever write reviews and do not want to affect the business/make judgements on the overall competence of a stylist, but as a client myself who is deeply unsettled by this, potential clients seeking highlights have a right to be informed. I showed Lauren 5-6 reference photos of a cooler toned caramel look on brunette hair using either a foilage/babylights technique - I wanted the highlights to be naturally dispersed/softly blended and Lauren assured me she was comfortable doing this. As I usually do with other stylists, bleach + toner process was used. The end result was however, big streaky pieces where the color was totally off - it looked like a yellow tinged blonde/ overgrown dye job and some parts were extremely grey ash like which washed me out (quite a feat considering I am an olive skin tone). Secondly, I payed $520 dollars for essentially even less than a partial highlight (stopped above my ears, concentrated around crown) when I had initially chosen a full highlight (initially quoted at $350). Midway through, when i noticed that the foils were only in the upper half of my hair, I expressed concerns as i I knew it would not look well blended with the bottom half of my hair which was a dark brown - Lauren dismissed these concerns, saying that it would turn out ok and I did not persist. It looked like an amateur had done it. Thirdly, I usually do this exact service annually and look after my hair with masks/olaplex so my hair is never affected by bleach. However the amount of hairfall I have experienced after this has been unprecedented - my hair is brittle and looks fried. On the price front, I had to pay almost $200 more than originally quoted, (told later that billing was on an hourly basis) and did not even get a proper blowdry which is rare in the city post a color service. Perhaps Lauren is better at doing just one colour dye-jobs but I wanted to offer a little insight on the highlights front.

I have visited Eric Spencer (formerly of Bumble and Bumble) at Mott NYC twice, and I couldn't be happier with his work! Most recently was in December 2020 during the COVID19 pandemic and I felt comfortable and safe with their COVID precautions (everyone wore a mask, used sanitizer upon entering, and the door was open for air circulation). Eric is an extremely talented barber and gave me the textured, shaggy haircut of my dreams. Previously he gave me the most amazing skin fade ever!! He has a great eye and understanding for what I was looking for in a queer / gender neutral haircut. Thank you Eric!

Joseph did such a good job with my hair! I got a cut and partial balayage. He knew exactly what color to use that complimented my paler skin tone. He's super nice and I had a great time talking with him throughout the process. I can tell he's definitely into his work and so diligent in making sure that the look is what you're going for. I definitely will be back here the next time I need a balayage. I've tried places in downtown Boston for a balayage with similar pricing, but their quality just doesn't compare to how Joseph did mine.

Joseph highlighted and glossed my hair back to my original light to medium red hair, from a graying mousy brown. He is definitely a very talented colorist, who transformed me back to what I looked like in my wedding photos. I am a new woman, who regained her identity as a redhead! Joseph is amazing, and a very nice person too!

So rare to find distinct, stylish menswear but Mott's in-house brand, R. Swiader, is just that. The clothes are gorgeous- every time I wear a piece I get compliments. Pair that with the best damn haircut in New York courtesy of John and Mott's charming atmosphere and I guarantee you won't regret your visit.

I stopped by earlier today to buy the drawstring pants I had been eyeing in the window whenever walking by. As a young dad with two young savages in tow it makes shopping a bit tough but everyone was friendly and helpful the moment I came in. I’m a big fan of the designer’s aesthetic and will definitely be back to check out the shirts. Everything was soft to the touch like Derek Rose. Happy to find a local designer that makes quality clothing in the city.
