Honestly I had a lot of hope for this spot. They done my locs washed dried... I paid extra for loc repair not a single loc that I needed repaired was actually repaired... I showed the stylist which locs need the repair the most and none were repaired. If my hair was helped how I was hoping but I spent almost $500 for a wash and retwist...

I arrived on time, but when I found my stylist (Fatou) she was starting someone elseâs hair and told me that the manager would speak to me. No one came to speak to me, so I went to speak to the receptionist. He was polite, but had no idea what was going on and said that they may have overbooked Fatou. When the manager arrived, I just had a funny feeling and asked for a cancellation. The ladies here look like they do great work, but their demeanor is unfriendly (with the exception of Tyla, whoâs done my hair before and was very kind and professional). Iâve had mishaps at this salon before, with one stylist not showing up without notice and just general aloofness and rudeness from management. When you pay $350 for an appointment, you expect a premium experience, and this salon doesnât provide that.

i got my starter locs done here in october and i've been coming back here for retwists every 5 weeks. super clean environment, friendly staff, and overall an excellent choice for your loc journey <3

I am writing to express my disappointment with the service I received on NappStar Salon NYC My appointment was scheduled for 2 PM, but I was not seen until 4 PM, after waiting for two hours. And spending 5 hours at the salon, the stylist did not show me my hair before I left. When I got home and was able to see it, I immediately contacted the salon. I noticed that the left side of my hair looks quite different from the right side. This asymmetry is concerning for me, as it affects the overall look I was hoping to achieve. To my surprise, I was informed that the earliest available appointment to fix the issue is in three weeks. During the phone call with the manager, it did not seem like I had much of a choice but to wait. I am not a confrontational person, but I think it is very unfair to have to endure having my hair look uneven for three weeks, especially since it plays an important role in my overall confidence. Anyway I waited and was seeing, They tried to fix it by redoing the front half of my 5 months locs, it was done poorly. I saved up for months to be able to afford thereâs service, plus tip and the result does not reflect the high price I paid. The quality of the service I received does not match the price charged. I had to find a different place to fix my locs.

My first time having my hair done at NappStar and I had a very good experience. Thank you Simone for overall care and bringing my damaged locs back to life. The repairs, shampoo and conditioning, that Jasmine oil and suggested pipe cleaner curls. My hair feels clean and smells so good! This is the end result and I love it. I received a lot of compliments. You have a nice positive vibe, very patient and kind. I will be back for my retwist and style â¤ď¸đđ˝

Comfortable but loud, I love Afro Beats And Caribbean music.. when itâs not so loud that I canât hear the questions that my stylist is asking đ¤ˇđ˝ââď¸. Fatima my stylist put care into my locs and her chi was On point I donât let just anyone touch my hair. I donât play like that especially since I have locs! With that said I will be coming back again. The place wasnât all shiny and glossy and a photo op for social media but they get the job done and I appreciate that.

I booked an appointment with NappStar for today in the afternoon. I was glad because I really needed a retwist with a deep condition in such short notice.I will say their skills when it comes to dreads is Good for the most part but their professionalism SUCKS! They show favoritism towards certain customers! The atmosphere is ok but some stylist are not welcoming. You'll book with a certain stylist and if it's close to closing time they'll sit you under the dryer and go home đ meanwhile you're waiting for someone to come finish your hair. First and last time!

I found NappStar on Instagram and decided to try it out. When I arrived the woman at the front desk was very nice. The shop was clean. I arrived a few minutes early and was taken care of right away. The young woman, Kay, did my hair and she did a fantastic job. I also had the chance to meet one of the owners. She was super nice. I enjoyed my experience and recommend this spot to anyone.

Schedule my appointment for 3:30 a week before by time the appointment day came it went back to 4:30 get there they have me wait for 45 minutes by time they was ready for me I had to remind them about the detox the stylist was good but after my comb re-twist (mind you I put crochet twist when setting the appointment with the most important to me loc repair) they basically forgot about me under the dyer then the girl who was suppose to do the repair and the 2 string style left. First they offer for me to get the repair done next time I come (why would I come back if you donât get it right the first time) then they offer the next day then the offer to do it if I wait another 20 minutes which turn to 40 so I left. Wasted my time and money the work they did me and my wife could have done. Wouldnât recommend to anyone

I recently went here to get two strand twists on my loose natural hair. The individual washing my hair was very aggressive with detangling my hair leading to breakage in my hair. The stylist then proceeded to two strand twist my hair with gel which I am sure if I didnât take these twists down after a week my loose natural hair would have locked. I would not recommend going here for your loose natural needs it was not the best experience for me.

My experience was just okay. The salon is a bit too big and busy for my liking. The quality of the service just doesnât match the price. I got starter locs with diamond parts, and the stylist told me there was no way to get a middle part. I really wish I stopped right there bc it did catch me off guard. But I had the whole concept already, and I didnât give alternative parting any proper consideration to make a new decision. now after the case I see so many examples of diamond parts with middle parts by novice stylists and I am really sad about that. My Stylist was really nice though

Never again! Napp Star is more concerned with social media posts. Instead of quality of the work The service is not up to par with the prices. I was charged a ridiculous price, had to stay damn near eight hours, just for my hair to be in knots. The finish work was sloppy and didn't warrant the price. Never again.

Almost 600 to wash retwist and repair locs neck level with sides already cut off. In 2 days loc that was repaired came off. Told me to come back and they would charge me to replace. I fell for the ig okie doke

I get so many compliments about how good my hair smells with using her âLoc Retwist Oilsâ (Peppermint Rose/Jasmine) and âSmell Good Oilsâ(cannot go wrong with the Frankincense and Myrrh) how good my hair looks with the fresh retwist using the âSuper Hold Retwist Gelâ or âRetwist Puttyâ. For ever a customer!!!

I would give 5 stars but unfortunately the new office manager and new front desk receptionist (mimi )absolutely sucks with zero customer service skills.if you can book yourself with limited interaction with the front desk and office manager, then you should be good. If you have to make a change to your existing appointment, this is a risk a mistake will be made. As a loyal customer for almost 2 years I was devastated to find out the requested stylist (Rosie) was not booked. When I called to reschedule my appointment to see if Rosie had any availability, the receptionist told me âyes come for Friday at 2:15.â To my surprise, the receptionist booked me with a random stylist instead. The office manager was not apologetic for this mistake, not understanding all , her response was âmy senior receptionist donât make a mistake so it mustâve been something you did on your end, â -_- this is not a mistake I wouldnât make especially since I only go to only (2) stylist in the entire shop. A few months back I needed to move my appointment back and of course, Mimi never changed my appointment. I had to wait 2 weeks for my stylist to be available. Bring back the old office manager!!!! Vibes in the shop are definitely different now.

Iâm three months into my loc journey and went to the Baltimore location on 9/15 because my regular loctician happened to be booked. Now although the atmosphere of the salon is nice/positive and the loctician (DK) that was assigned to me was friendly so were the other staff members.. this salon DOES NOT specialize in maintaining starter locs. I guess I should have assumed that from their Instagram page where they only show them starting peopleâs starter locs or dealing with mature locs. But me just starting out in my loc journey I thought a salon that did locs could do anything even in the starting phases. After having my hair wrapped up and in a silk bonnet for a couple of days of leaving the salon I noticed the locs in the back of my head. They were sloppy and looked as if it was no effort into retwisting my hair at all. I just had âclean hairâ but no look of a retwist. Also two locs/parts in the front of my head where my middle part is somehow got combined and turned into one big loc that I now have to go get fixed. I should have noticed red flags when I didnât even have individual clips used for each loc during the retwist but 10-20+ locs inside of one clip. Iâve never seen that done on starter locs only on mature ones. I wonât be returning to this location.

Most unprofessional experience and I didnât even go to the salon . I reached out to NappStar on Instagram to know if my locs could be serviced for my needs. I was told to book a $50 virtual consultation after sharing pictures of my hair. I paid the New York location since that info was sent to me without being informed the Baltimore location doesnât open till September 12. Yes I spoke to Annette since she called to correct the mixup. I got rescheduled the first day due to the Baltimore salon being âclosedâ again prior to them telling me itâs not even up and running. The next day my 9am virtual consultation was an hour late. No one reached out until I messaged on Instagram. The consultation lasted 6 minutes without the stylist really looking at my hair. I have an event to go to Friday, my trip is next week and my hair still isnât done . Tried to give grace and asked for a refund for the virtual consultation so I could have it transferred to the in person consultation that they tried to charge me another $50 for at least 3 times but they stopped responding to my messages.

Great experience. My stylist Naomi was very warm and friendly. I had the honor of having Annette do my loc reattachment and style. The salon was clean, vibrant and they play Afro Beats music which I LOVED. Ill be back in 6 weeks!

I absolutely love NappStar, ALL of the employees are so professional. I had my stylist her name is Rosie, she is awesome, she made me feel comfortable and is very knowledgeable. I received starter loc, and she educated me on the process. The vibe in the salon is positive and inviting. Will 100% get my retwist at NappStar and future hair care.

I booked an appointment on July 30th for a comb retwist with the Marley twist over my locs. Paid a $50 deposit. Prior to me booking this appointment, I had a conversation via email with Mimi to discuss what I wanted because I wasnât sure what to book the style under or if the salon even offered the style. I sent her pictures of my locs, we had a whole conversation about what I want, pricing, etc. When I booked the appointment, I booked a comb retwist with a style (with stylist Kay). I added to the notes when booking my appointment that I had a conversation with Mimi and I will be doing the Marley twist. Fast forward to Saturday, 8/17, I sent another email asking about the time duration of my appointment so that I can set a time for something else I had going on. I just wanted to know about how long it would take. The response I got was that the stylist that I booked with wasnât going to be able to do my hair because of the way I booked my appointment, I guess I was suppose to book the Marley twist to block out the proper amount of time. I can own that mistake, I did go back on the website and see that there was a whole other section just for that, which I didnât see. However, I spoke to Mimi prior to booking to ask these questions and that wasnât specifically indicated. Also, when was anybody going to contact me and let me know what I booked it wrong and adjustments need to be made? Because it was specified in the notes of my booking, exactly what I was coming for. So if somebody read the note and realized I booked it wrong, wouldnât it make sense for somebody to call or email me? So now weâre at the day of my appointment, I still go because itâs the day before my trip and I have no choice, I started my loc journey at napp star and continue going for a year until I changed my stylist to someone closer to home. So I wasnât too concerned, I went anyways. I get there and I am washed and retwisted by 1 stylist, she was great, but she let me know what somebody else will do the Marley twist. Fine. When she finished, Scarlett brought me over to another chair and let me know that she is going to show another stylist what to do and have her do my hair. Fine. She did about 3 of the Marley twist and let the other stylist take over. Iâm not going to lie, it was not coming out right, it looked totally different from what Scarlett did. So I stopped her, called Scarlett back over and let her know Iâll just wait for the girl who did my wash and retwist to finish her client and have her do finish my hair. Itâs not fair to me or the stylist, it was obviously her very first time doing the Marley twist and she only got thrown into it because there was an appointment booking issue. So I wasnât even mad at her, wasnât her fault. Also, itâs not fair to me because I want my hair done correctly. I just wanted to bring this to your attention because itâs unfortunate that all of this is happening and Iâm paying over $400 for a style. Thatâs a lot of money. I got to the salon at 11:20 for my 11:45 appointment, I was brought to the bowl right away to be washed. I walked out of the salon at 6:29PM on the dot. Thatâs 7 hours for something that should have taken maybe 4 hours because I have thick locs and I only have 57 locs. This was a very bad and unprofessional experience, I was SO drained and upset about this entire experience.

I really enjoyed being a client at Nappstar. Liked the stylistsâ talent and vibe at the NYC location. Now I live in South Jersey too far. Hoping for a tour in Philly more sooner than later. đ

I think they're nice people and they get the done job, however, I felt like when I did my consultation that it was pointless and a waste of time. Mainly, because whatever I discussed at the consultation was not relayed to the loctician that installed my starter locs. The day of installation, the loctician was very confused and it was almost a bit irritating for me, plus no recommendation was given. I was frustrated because I don't know what was the best approach to use and I needed guidance. Not sure if this was the treatment given based on the fact that I opted for the monthly special as apposed to the full price. I am not writing them off yet, since they were fast.

Made an appointment online, called to update the type of loc extensions I wanted so my appointment was rescheduled. I received a call from Nappstar staff to confirm my appointment, I figured all was good. Was greeted by staff, and my stylist Candy who was pleasant. Candy proceeded to wash my hair , and then got started with parting my hair. Here is when things went left. I was informed my two people who I believe were managers that the extensions that I wanted didnât arrive yet from their warehouse , and I was offered a different length ( I requested 16 inch and was offered 10 in) . I declined as I wasnât interested , being that it wasnât what I requested. I was then told that Candy couldnât proceed, and I left. As I was getting a different style done else where that same day, I received a text from Nappstar stating that the extensions arrived, and was offered an appointment the next day. What upset me the most was the fact that they confirmed my appointment without the locs being onsite which makes zero sense. I took the day off, and drove from Connecticut only to have my time wasted and my plans ruined. Needless to say , I didnât respond to that text. Very disappointed with my experience, and I wouldnât recommended.

This is my first time writing a review and the Baltimore location I went to for Nappstar doesnt have a google site yet. I went to Nappstars Baltimore location on Aug 17. I was really excited for the whole thing because the owners loc and retwist videos were apart of my journey back in 2020. My service was not as expected however. I was looking for a new loctician since my old one moved out baltimore city. I booked for 12pm and was seen around 1pm closest. I asked for a detox and was a bit upset that when smelling my wet hair under the dryer the smell was still prominent. During the retwist I asked my stylist (im so sorry i forgot her name) to be more gentle as I could feel her ripping on my root (I even had to asked if she was interlocking instead to better understand the feeling I was feeling). Worse to mention, she put so much oil on my hair that when I opened my eyes it burned. I didn't want to be so much of a bother but it still hurts. By this time it was around 3:50? 4:00. I just wanted a style and to go home honestly. The lady who did my style (barrel twists) was nice but she would not listen when I said it was too tight. I honestly never had barrel twists before and after she did something I just think chalked it up to it's the tightness that comes with the style honestly.....Im tired, my eyes hurt, its loud, the owner would make reels and everyone would get a bit quiet so she could have a good shot it felt a bit weird to me and the salon at that point didnt really feel safe. I wanted to go home. I paid the $50 deposit prior and paid $130 at the service, my tight style that i tried to speak up on was $60. So for the aftermath, I had to take out the style 2 days later. My retwist really didnt hold as long as I thought it would. I have three prominent purple bruises on my scalp that hurt to the touch all because I didnt want to seem rude if I told any of my stylist again or walked out. Overall, the service was a 1. the retwist looked nice by the end even if it did not last. I dont have any personal grievances with the owner or Nappstar. I understand Nappstar does not provide refunds and that isnt what Im asking for at all. This is just my personal experience of how my first ever impression went and I was let down severely. I will not be returning and I will have to let my scalp heal before doing anything else which saddens me.
