Description
Nestled between Elysian Park, the hills of Echo Park, Silverlake, Downtown, Los Feliz, and pretty much just centrally located in LA, you’ll find Neighborhood Salon estimated 2010. By definition, a neighborhood is a localized community within a larger city, and it is under that exact premise that owner and hairstylist, Ava Shire, created neighborhood salon. A third generation Echo Park resident, Ava strived to create a place that embodies the vibrance of the community she loves while allowing each individual stylist to shine in their own way and contribute their vibe and style. At neighborhood, creativity and quality is never compromised for convenience, and you’ll always feel right at home. We are happy and proud to be the only Green Cir...

This was my first time going to a salon so needless to say my anxiety was high. I needed a place that could do perms and highlights and found this salon. Driving up to the location, I'm greeted with nice neighborhood vibes and upon entrance into the salon the decor and vibes were all cool. I met with the stylist Brenda who was extremely welcoming and warm. She instantly offered me a plethora of drinks, I settled for just some tea. The process of talking and getting my hair done was so seamless and comforting. The end result was better than I imagined. Also they were veteran friendly ! Thank you again Brenda and thank you neighborhood salon!!

I love neighborhood. This salon not only has exceptional customer service every time I come in, but they have an incredible team of hairstylists. Brenda has perfected my color, and my hair feels so much better since I have been coming here. Ava Shire the owner. knows what she is doing when it comes to the products she brings in, and the team she has assembled. I also got extensions put in, and Ava was patient and took her time to put them in comfortably, and exactly where I wanted them. The salon is also clean and they make you feel super comfortable. Wonderful little hidden gem in Echo Park. Thank you for delivering passion and quality every time, neighborhood!

I recently moved to CA and sought out AVA because I appreciated her background and style for using sheers. I was blown away by her attention to detail/precision and overall honesty throughout the process. I felt like she was making my hair work for ME and help me express myself through my hair :) on top of that, the salon has incredible protective measures in place to make the client feel very safe during the pandemic. Such a great experience!

Wow I loved this salon so much! Marie did my cut and she had so many great ideas. She cut about 4-5 inches out and gave me lovely layers. She told me I had a natural curl I didn't even know about and showed me how to make it pop in less than 5 minutes! On top of it, the salon is super cute and trendy. I will definitely be back.

think i have found my salon! everyone was so honest and sweet there! it was so much fun being in the salon and everyone was so friendly and kind! it was such a fun and unique experience that i have never experience. I really loved my stylist joanna ( i think that was her name). I plan to come back. my only negative was that it was a little pricey but i am willing to pay the cost to have this experience.

Brought my young daughter here for her first “salon experience.” They couldn’t have been nicer! From the personal consultation to the warm greeting, we felt right at home. Worth the drive, and the search for street parking!

This review is based on my last appointment with JESSICA COOK on July 8, 2017. I've been going to Jessica since September 2016 when I decided to go from brunette to blonde. I'll preface this review by saying that beginning in January 2017, I've had to go back to her after my initial root touch-up appointments because there are noticeable yellow sections at my roots (photos attached after my May 2017 appointment) and she agrees to do a correction appointment. In all of the times I've gotten my roots touched up, my head has always been back in the sink - without a towel underneath my neck (except once when I asked her for a towel) - when washing out the bleach, doing the Olaplex treatment, applying toner, shampooing and conditioning my hair. Once I'm at the sink after washing out the bleach, I've never been given the option to sit up or walk around the salon. On July 8, I went in for my routine root touch-up and toner appointment, during which Jessica applied bleach to my roots and then I sat in her chair to process. After processing, I went to the sink to get the bleach rinsed out. In typical fashion, my head was extended back in the sink without a towel underneath my neck. After washing the bleach out of my hair, she told me she was applying A SECOND ROUND OF BLEACH TO MY ROOTS BECAUSE THERE WERE STILL YELLOW SECTIONS AND SHE DIDN'T WANT TO MAKE ME COME BACK FOR A FOLLOW-UP APPOINTMENT. Thinking nothing of it, I let her apply the second round of bleach, remaining at the sink with my neck hyperextended during the second bleach processing. At this point, all other appointments have wrapped up and we were the only two people in the salon. After the second round of bleach, she proceeded with applying a shower cap to get me lighter, Olaplex treatment, toner, shampoo and conditioner. MY NECK WAS HYPEREXTENDED IN THE SINK WITHOUT A TOWEL UNDER MY NECK FOR A MINIMUM OF AN HOUR. My appointment started at 3:30 p.m. and I left shortly after 9 p.m. Fast forward to the next day when I realize A SECTION ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY SCALP IS COMPLETELY NUMB. Being concerned, I text Jessica and ask her if this is normal. She replies verbatim (have the texts), "I think that will go away. My head used to get numb from time to time when I bleached my hair. Just put vitamin e oil on your scalp in that area for the next couple of days if you can. Or coconut oil." Cut to the Thursday after my appointment and I start to experience LIGHTHEADEDNESS, FOLLOWED BY DIZZINESS, TIGHTNESS AROUND MY NECK AND PERIODIC WEAKNESS IN MY LEGS WHILE STANDING. I see my regular doctor who thinks that due to the amount of time my neck was hyperextended in the sink, that I have a nerve injury akin to a concussion. Despite having my annual physical in May with blood work, my doctor orders blood work again to rule out Anemia or a Vitamin B deficiency. No surprise, everything comes back normal. Fast forward to July 21 when my lightheadedness and dizziness have not subsided, AND I SEE A NEUROLOGIST. His diagnosis: MY OCCIPITAL NERVE WAS COMPRESSED due to the extended time my head was back in the sink, and has caused my symptoms. For safe measure and to make sure an artery wasn't dissected (GOOGLE "BEAUTY PARLOR STROKE") he orders a MRI of the brain and MRAs of the head and neck. Fortunately, everything comes back normal and I start to feel better three weeks after my appointment. While the numbness has subsided, I DON'T HAVE 100% FEELING BACK ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY SCALP. The neurologist thinks the numbness will eventually go away but cannot predict when. TL;DR: Jessica applied SECOND ROUND OF BLEACH ON MY ROOTS WHILE HEAD WAS BACK IN THE SINK, LEAVING ME TO PROCESS AT SINK. As a result of atypical second bleach processing, neck was hyperextended in sink without a towel for longer than previous appointments. Neurologist diagnosed me with a compressed occipital nerve due to lengthy time left at sink. SCALP IS STILL NUMB, and not 100% back to normal. OWNER NEVER RETURNED MY CALL. AWFUL WAY TO TREAT CUSTOMERS. BE AWARE: SALON'S SINKS ARE NOT ADJUSTABLE.

Tucked away in Elysian Heights, NS has a fresh, welcoming environment. The gals are super welcoming. This was my first visit to NS. My appointment for a wash and blow out with Ashley was made just four days prior. I arrived at my appointment on time and was quickly guided to the back for a smock and later to the bowl for the wash. A note on the bowl - it was super comfortable. I have been to other salons and some bowls pinch your temples not matter how you place yourself in them; while others no matter how back you put your head, you still get wet. Not this one. Ashley did a great job with my smooth blow dry. It kept its for a couple of days.
