I wasn't going to write a review but I've been encouraged by many in my life to do so - I was super excited and nervous to get a hair system put in place, it was $275 for the hair and $200 for the service of putting it on - $475 total. This is more than I've ever dreamed of for paying for anything hair related but I wanted to do something for myself. I am pretty passive and should've said something in the moment, but didn't. I tried to make the best of this hair system but she placed a totally unrealistic piece on my head and as many have told me, it showed a lack of integrity that she let me leave the appointment like what is pictured. She ended up refunding me half the cost of the total and didn't defend when I said how awful it looked. No one else in the salon commented on it and I got the vibe that they too saw how bad it was. I'm grateful my friends, family and coworkers were honest with me and saving me some humiliation. For what it's the worth the stylist who I won't name was very kind and carried great conversation. I just couldn't let potential guys going into this move forward without being warned. Update: never received a response to my email as requested from the owner below, but do appreciate his comment here.

I’ve been going here for well over a year and have always been satisfied with the results. Everyone that works there is kind and accommodating. My personal stylist am helps me decide on what route to go for a cut plus style and I’ve never been steered wrong

BEST EXTENSIONS EVER! You cannot beat the quality and price of the hair. I get a brazilian blowout every 6 months to tame my frizz and my hair is the healthiest it’s ever been. James is the absolute best! I love that they use the Booksy app to schedule appointments. Love love love this salon! 5 stars!

Emilie at Neon Avenue is perhaps the most talented hair and makeup artist I have ever met (I am no newbie to hair and makeup artists in Chicago). Her blowouts are amazing & last a week. Emilie is a rising star, and I could not recommend her more.

I have been seeing Lauren Richards for over 2 years. Glad to see her transition over to Neon Avenue. The space is very nice and they offer complimentary drinks. Her service is exceptional as always, she is super friendly and always works to achieve want you want in a cut. Can not recommend her enough :)

I have seen Lauren twice now. Both times at her previous place of work. I initially chose her out of convenience, as her old place of work was attached to my building, but she was so incredibly wonderful that I will happily be seeing her at Neon Avenue the next time I need a haircut. I'm not the best at describing what I want and she immediately told me what she thought would be best. It was exactly what I wanted. She's attentive and detailed, but also kind and gentle. If you want someone who is going to pay attention to you and give you exactly what you want (or better (but only after she made sure it was okay)) she's the one you want.

Lauren has been cutting my hair for a year now and has done an incredible job every single time. She is very knowledgeable and always communicates what she is doing/why she is doing it to reach the requested style. Thick hair warning Emilie is really nice and I enjoyed the atmosphere she created while I got my haircut, so I don’t write this lightly. I went from mid-length to short. I have pretty thick full head of hair, but not curly which is why I thought it wouldn’t be a problem. But after my first appointment, I ended up with really choppy hair (included photos). She didn’t realize how bad it was because she had curled my hair the first time, so we booked a follow up appointment to fix it. The second time, she straightened my hair to cut it, but did so without spraying heat-protectant on my hair. Although it looks less terrible, it still wasn’t what I was looking for, but I didn’t want my hair too short so I’m cutting my losses and waiting for my hair to grow out before I go somewhere else to try again. I appreciated the patience and willingness to try to fix it, but if you have a full head of thick hair, I urge you to find someone with more experience to avoid what happened to me.

Always obsessed with my hair when I leave! Extensions are top quality! Staff is super friendly! James is the best and always knows the best products for my specific kind of hair. I’ve been getting a Brazilian blowout every 6-8months with him and it is SO worth it. My hair is naturally frizzy and it helps so much in the Chicago weather.

Cristy must be a hair sorcerer because my hair cut was magical. I have thick, heavy hair; I asked Cristy if she could layer it and thin it out. She did an amazing job. I can't get over how much lighter my head feels. What a game changer. Thanks, Cristy!

I’ve done my hair with Lauren for almost a year already and we’ve been the perfect match haha, for me finding the perfect hair stylist is complicated cause I’m picky. She has awesome techniques to make sure my hair stays healthy and she does an awesome fade. Most importantly, she is a great person and we have great chats while getting my haircut.

The best experience always! I followed Cristy from place to place and she never disappoints. The owner is amazing and they are super low key while maintaining a fun business vibe. I don't know about anyone else, but stuffy, pretentious salons need to be a thing of the past and this place is just the perfect atmosphere.

I had to go organize my hair because I have an important presentation this week. However, there were a lot of people waiting and cutting the hair where I used to go and I was so urgent, so I went to neon Avenue Salon located in the same building. Even though there was no one came to cut their hair, the man who looked like the manager decided to have the female staff cut my hair. I told the female staff I would like to keep my hair long so just trim my hair, please. As far as I know, trim means just cutting hair a little bit, however, she started to ask me how do you want to trim? So I said a little bit. However, even she heard what I said, she started curing my back hair really short that I did not even notice until I saw it. At that moment I knew something was going really wrong. I told her is this trim? But she said nothing. I had no idea what to do…. I really tried to tell her how to cut and what to do to fix this problem, however, she kept messing it up. I ended up with really really weird and terrible short hair which looks like a child cut my hair. Now I have to wear a hat all the time and I have no idea what to do for presentation, also have no idea how I’m gonna live like this now own… I’m like a person who can’t get angry with another person, so I was not able to do anything. I also had to pay $30 for my hair.. I mean I...I really just want to cry...

I went to neon avenue for a balayage hair coloring treatment. The place was great, clean and offered beverages when we arrived but when it comes to hair coloring, Carla Steep is the best in the business. I have had colored in my different countries but Carla tops them all. Her attention to detail amazed me while remaining so focused she had the time to talk and laugh with me. I showed her a photo of what I wanted but she showed her experience and knowledge which ended in a truly excellent result. Anyone worried about getting hair coloring.. just go talk to Carla.

This place was delightful. I was only in town for a few days, and I made my appointment with James. He is extremely knowledgeable, kind, helpful, and very good at what he does. I asked for a French bob, and he picked the style that was just right for me. I love it!

Scheduled my appointment online with Carla, got in right away! The environment was very welcoming and the rest of the staff was very nice. Carla did an amazing job on my hair and the fade is the best I’ve ever had! Definitely making another appointment with her!
