I had a really wonderful experience here! I came in as a walk in and there was a wait but was very worth it. My hair has never felt or looked better. I highly recommend coming here. Lovely staff!!!

Loved getting my haircut here!! Yuka gave me the best haircut I’ve had in awhile. She patiently listened to everything I wanted and delivered. One of the biggest issues I’ve had with my hair is how thick it is and she thinned it perfectly. 10/10 haircut and will be coming back again!

my hairdresser ono (??) was very skilled and friendly! i’ll definitely come back to this salon again :,) one thing i will say however is that i expected only a trim but got 4-5 inches of hair cut off, i think there was a bit of a language barrier but i really enjoy the new cut! just something to keep in mind for those more particular about their hair. updating my review a few weeks later to say it’s growing out really well and this may be my favorite haircut i’ve ever gotten :,)

Great salon in Japantown, the best haircuts I’ve ever had have been from here! I’ve had different stylists each time I’ve gone with great results, will definitely be coming back next time. And bonus points, they also have a super cute dog named ringo :D

I just had the worst haircut experience ever, possibly the ugliest haircut. It took over an hour for a men’s haircut, and most of the time was spent on the back of my head, barely touching the top, with skills so amateurish it seemed like a beginner’s work. I ended up with a Japanese high school student’s hairstyle. Looking at myself in the mirror, I was shocked. And then to ask me, “Are you OK? Do you think it’s OK?” After it was done, my whole body was covered in hair clippings. Happy Halloween

Yuka & Owen are great stylists! Not only are they friendly, but are very detailed-orientated and seek perfection with their work. They care about giving you the best haircut possible. I highly recommend!!

先日、初めてこちらの美容室を利用しました。サンフランシスコに日本人が経営している美容室があると聞き、期待していましたが結論からいうと、もう2度と行くことはないと思います。 まず、美容師の技術がなさすぎる。担当の方によってもちろん変わると思いますが、私の担当者はもう何年もやっていると言っていたものの、それを疑うほどの手捌きでした。セット後の髪に驚きを隠せませんでした。横からみた髪はガタガタしていて、どうすればここまで下手に切れるのかと思えるほどでした。友人や家族にやってもらったほうがまだマシです。それなのに、価格はカラー、カット、チップ込みで3万円。もう2度と行くことはないでしょう。期待していた自分が馬鹿でした。店内の雰囲気はとてもよかったですが、それだけではカバーできない価格帯と技術です。外に出るのが恥ずかしいです。自分でヘアアイロンを当て最大限の力を尽くしても隠せないダサさがあります。おすすめしません。

Terrible experience here. My stylist(Sho) is super unprofessional! Could't even hold the shaver stable. My hair looks so bad now: short and long hair in the same area. Told him and not able to fixed it. Also asked him to trim the top hair to look better. However it is looking worse. Give up on this..... More feeling after give up: Air conditioner not like working too hot. Water too hot washing your head, didn't ask your feeling at all. Not strong enough when doing little massage almost can't feel it. Not sure if there was better stylist here, but mine was so bad total a naive learner. The salon was so unresponsible for throwing me a unprofessional anybody. wasted time and money here ($60 btw). Any baber can do better!

Owen C. came over to my chair, and quickly asked what I wanted to do with my hair. I greeted him, and proceeded to show him a few photos for inspiration. In response, he started to give me critiques about my hair (which is totally fine/expected). I totally understand salon services are built on communication & collaboration between the customer and the stylist. Unprovoked, however, he pointed out that I appeared to have dyed my hair at home. I found it kinda odd since I was just going in for a cut, but confirmed it with him anyway. In response he said to me, with a dry tone of voice, "I can tell...last week...You did this to yourself." (It had been about a month). I brushed it off, and then he guided me to the one of the wash stations. After aggressively washing my hair (that I had already freshly washed before coming in), we began the trim. He made some valid comments about how the structure of the look would play with my hair type/texture, to which I understood and acknowledged. I thought we were both on the same page: keep the base length in tact, lightly refresh the top layers, and add a soft fringe. Apparently, however, we weren't....As the cut progressed, he kept repeating, "just let it grow out," and, "It'll grow," which made me so nervous... Needless to say, after I left and rinsed off my hair at home, I noticed the cut was done completely uneven, and not at all in line with what we had communicated. I hate to come off like an absolute freaking Karen, but I'm just very upset that I paid $80 for a rude customer experience, and for this to be the result.

Had such a wonderful experience with Yoshino. She gave me the exact style I had asked for. My hair was cut with great care and detail. Would 10/10 recommend and am looking forward to returning.

Owen is an amazing, talented, artist of a hairdresser. It has been years since I walked in a salon and felt at ease; I was so nervous on arrival because my past experiences with hair cuts has been not the greatest. Owen was spectacular, and so gentle on my very, very long and dense hair. He snipped away with such grace and confidence all while being the most gentle person with my long hair ever. I am so grateful to find Owen and will tell anyone who ask that they should see him! I am a customer for life!

Yoshino is amazing for digital perms! I had tried a couple of places for perms before but very happily have been working with Yoshino for a few years and multiple perms. I really appreciate her attention to detail for a great perm, thorough notes on what works and what doesn’t work for my hair, and remembering that I love going through a pile of Japanese magazines when getting my hair permed!

I went to Nepenji today on a whim to get a haircut as I was struggling to find a solid salon in SF that didn't charge a crazy amount of money for a haircut. My stylist, ArDee, did such an incredible job with my hair. He spent over an hour, washing it thoroughly, and then doing magic to my hair. I told him I wanted volume, texture, and layers and boy did he deliver! He was so kind and told me what he was doing in every step, and worked efficiently but never made me feel rushed. The salon recently raised their prices to $85+tip, but for a wash, cut, and blowout in SF? I think it's incredibly fair for the quality of work and time spent. I have found my new favorite salon and will be returning as long as I'm in SF!

The worst place to cut your hair. They shampoo you without covering your clothes and they shave your sides unevenly. Everything is rushed and the service is horrible.

I think I've found my forever hairstylist! This review is for Junya! I came into the salon weary at first because my previous experiences at other salons haven't been too great. After reading a bunch of Yelp reviews, I decided to book an appointment with Junya. Junya was so sweet and made me feel so welcomed. He was very gentle with my head and hair when shampooing it. The head massage was so great, I almost forgot where I was and fell asleep. Lol The haircut itself was longer than what I was used to but I can definitely see why. I have a huge amount of hair and he was definitely very patient with it. Junya is so meticulous and precise, you can tell he has years and years of experience. The end results were AMAZING! I've never been so in love with my hair after getting it cut. This was a style that I usually don't go for too. If you spend a lot of time on social media platforms, you might've noticed that the wolf/hush/shaggy mullet cut is super in right now. That's what I asked for, and Junya delivered exactly that! I'm so happy! Also got a complementary neck and head massage after the cut. LOVE LOVE LOVE!! Definitely check this salon out if your looking for a place that's very clean, professional, and good at their craft. I can't stress enough how amazing everyone here is! I'll be coming back for Junya again. I'll attach some before and after photos of my hair below.

Mr. Ono did a beyond wonderful job taking my hair from past shoulder length, to a short style I requested. Whole appointment took an hour and a half, mainly because I have very thick hair. He took his time and checked in with me every 10 minutes or so to make sure the cut was going in the direction I wanted. Will definitely be back!
