I've been coming here for about 5 years. Despite the shop being relatively small and unassuming, the talent here is quite dense! Mr Lin's services are excellent and maintains very competitive prices (despite many customers suggesting for him to raise the prices...) Would definitely recommend to friends who are looking for reliable haircuts.

JIMMY IS THE BEST! I've been going to him exclusively since 2019 (5 years). Jimmy is detail oriented and a perfectionist with your hair. He also takes extra time to hear what YOU want and what your wishes are-- then implements them flawlessly. I give him my full trust with my hair, often times napping during service because it is so relaxing! He truly cares about getting you your desired hair look and has the skillset to do it! On top of his excellent service, his prices cannot be beat. He is VERY affordable. Please support local business and go to Jimmy!!!

Lovely place and great hairstylist! I have been going to Jimmy for hair dyeing for two years, and the results are always amazing! I really like the pink hair this time, the roots are very natural, and my friends said it looks like their own hair🫶

Girls, DON’T GO HERE!!! Here is the example I showed him(p2) vs the actual haircut he gave me(p1). My original haircut was in the last photo taken on the same day. He kept thinning the top part of my hair 30 minutes straight, saying that it is “layering”. I wanted a trim and he cut almost half of my hair. When he noticed he did a horrendous haircut, he blamed it on me for not looking like the model in the example I showed him. Two months has passed and my hair still looks the same. I went here before and thought it wasn’t bad, but this time I realize they just dogmatically layer your hair no matter how long it is. Don’t risk your hair on a salon like this. It takes too much time to recover. I still look like a dude in the 80s.

Jimmy is super talented. I've never dyed my hair before and this is my first getting a balayage. Jimmy took his time to do my hair and explained everything. the hair came out exactly the way i wanted!!! and with this price you will never find anything like this in the city. come to Jimmy and his team if you want to get a perfect color and haircut.

Jimmy knows his stuff. I've been with Jimmy for around a year now and he is so attentive every time. You won't find better prices for the quality of cut he gives. He speaks english well and you won't have any issues getting a great cut.

My boyfriend and I come here for Jimmy because he’s great and so friendly. I’ve had a lot of hairdressers messed up my haircuts in the past so I really appreciate how he listens to my needs/concerns and explains the process to set the right expectation. Spontaneously wanted a haircut to freshen things up. Called this place up, made an appt, met Jimmy who worked quickly and confidently and my haircut turned out great. My bf even commented a few times that it looked good. I didnt do a wash since i already washed my hair in the am. Place is no frills, but for $25+ tip you could do a lot worse. I plan to come back again and maybe even try highlights.

they did the perfect layers! wash and cut for only $30 USD honestly such a deal. planning to go back whenever i get the chance. the people are so nice too. great place 1000/10 recommend!!!

A friend recommended Jimmy to me. It took about 6 hours to complete, and I absolutely love this color! My hair is still very smooth after dyeing, and the quality is great. Plus, I didn’t experience any discomfort on my scalp during the bleaching process. The price is also cheaper than many other places, totally worth it. I’ll definitely come back in the future for touch-ups!

I came here because of the good reviews and unfortunately was very disappointed. I asked for a wash cut and blow dry. I specifically said I only wanted a very small trim with a couple of face framing pieces in the front and stylist cut off WAY too much and thinned out my ALREADY THIN hair. He even wanted to go in with shears after cutting off so much and thinning out the ends and I had to stop him. Even the blow dry was bad. He left small pieces of hair at my roots in the from curly and frizzy. I will need to go home and rewash and redo it myself. And he added a ton of oil at the end. I’m so upset and will not be returning.

In addition to regular trims and cuts I've gotten blowouts, coloring, perming, and styling done by Don over the years. He is extremely experienced, skilled, and kind. He listens to what you want but will also give great suggestions if you ask for it. At least one third of the salon's clientele is non-Chinese speaking so don't let that stop you from getting an extremely affordable cut or treatments from this spot. He uses the top tier stuff and the salon takes cash!

For 15 bucks, I’ve had one of the best hair cuts I’ve gotten in the US. Jerry was very professional and he knew exactly what I wanted. If you’re looking for a good Asian Barber in NY, don’t look anywhere further.

I came here last year for straight perm and surprisingly it lasted like almost 1 year! I came back here yesterday for the straight perm again. Love the service and the style. Also the price is very cheap compared to many stores in NYC. My stylist is Dony btw 😉😉

I recently had my hair bleached and dyed by Jimmy, and I couldn’t be happier with the results! My hair was in pretty rough shape when I came in, with three different colors from neglect. Jimmy took almost 8 hours to carefully and patiently restore and color my hair, and his professionalism really showed throughout the process. The results were fantastic—exactly what I wanted! The price was also very reasonable, and I feel like I got great value for my money. I’ll definitely be coming back. Highly recommend!

Jerry was amazingly talented and no joke this is the best haircut of my life. The place is simple not glamorous, but the talent is incredible and the prices are affordable. I have extremely long hair, Jerry took care of me for $40 and the result was better than I dreamed of. I came on a Tuesday morning as a walk in btw, so there was no wait.

Jimmy did such a great job of my hair! A true gem in the city. Jimmy is super patient, the first shade of pink was not what I wanted, so he remixed the color and dyed it again for me. It ended perfectly, exactly as I want! It’s a great deal, not overcharged (might be on the cheaper end even for Manhattan), and great service.

[TL:DR] Trust the process = trust *jimmy*. He CUTS and COLORS hair really well. Super talented and overall a good person. Review on haircuts: (Skip to next part for review on hair coloring) Jimmy has been cutting my hair for several years now and I only trust him bc he is truly knowledgable and understands hair in general as well as latest trends and technique. There are many hair “stylist” out there who think all you need to know is how to use a pair of scissors, hence why so many ppl have botched hair cuts. He is not someone who cuts 6 inches off when you only asked for a trim. Whenever I show Jimmy a reference photo, he immediately knows what to do to achieve it and guides me thru the process. He will give his recs and explain why something works or doesn’t work (i.e. suit my styles, compliments my face shape, works for my hair texture, maintenance level, etc). My favorite aspect of his skills is that my hair grows into the cuts so nicely. He cuts hair in a way that even after a few weeks/month, the style is still there and the hair flows so gracefully. Review on hair coloring: Since going to him for years, I’ve watched him work on many ppls hair and the colors he achieved are amazing. I finally decided to get my hair colored after 10 years of not dying my hair. He worked patiently with me thru the consultation to discuss my color goals. During the process, even as he took on other customers, he still frequently checked in with me and paid close attn as the color progressed. You can tell he does this thru intuition and that takes skills and shows passion - which he certainly has for his art. He takes pride in and accountability for his work, and does it in a humble and grateful manner. Tips: The place is a no frills salon, no glitz or glam. This is part of his humble beginnings to owning his own salon one day so don’t judge a book by its cover. It’s small and narrow, crammed when it’s busy. They take walk ins, but be mindful that you’ll have to wait as they juggle everything. If you’re going in for coloring, go in prepared by eating beforehand and bring something to drink. If you need a break from sitting for hours, simply ask. They can get busy, and it’s not that they’ll forget about you, but they are focused on providing service to their other patrons (as they should!). I’m really happy with my hair and excited to see how it progresses. I’ll continue to support Jimmy and his aspirations bc he’s truly deserving of it. He’s patient, never rushes a job, super talented, and overall a genuine person.

if you’re tenderheaded this place is great, my hairstylist was so gentle despite me having super thick hair. $35 for wash, cut and style — he cut A LOT of hair and was so patient and meticulous. receiving a service from someone who is passionate about their work and determined to deliver definitely shows — i’d come back here even if the prices were competitive with other manhattan places. thank you for the great haircut’

My daughter and I were searching for a new salon and decided to try New City One. I’m very particular about my hair and have tried a range of salons, from high-end to more typical ones. I usually go to Korean salons but decided to give this place a shot because it’s close to my work. If you’re looking for a fancy atmosphere, this might not be the place for you. However, if you want a talented stylist, this is the spot. I got a fantastic haircut, and my daughter had her hair colored from black to milk tea brown. She showed them a picture of the style and color she wanted, and they matched it perfectly. The staff was very friendly, attentive, and took their time to ensure everything was done just right. The prices are affordable, and I highly recommend this salon. We’ll definitely be returning!

I wanted to try out a new salon and this place did not disappoint! The stylist that I had were friendly and delivered the hair color of my choice perfectly! The price is fair and reasonable. I gave them a good tip for the 3-4 hour process. I would come back in the future.
