I had one of the worst experiences at this salon. The stylist seemed completely uninterested from the moment I walked in and didn't even bother to listen to what I wanted. I specifically showed a photo of the haircut I was going for, but what I ended up with was a choppy, uneven mess. The stylist was rushing through the entire process like they had somewhere better to be. The place itself was dirty and had hair all over the floor from previous customers. The tools didn’t look like they were properly cleaned—just not sanitary at all. And don’t even get me started on how rude the staff was. When I politely asked if they could fix the uneven cut, they got defensive and acted like it was my fault. To top it off, they charged way more than the service was worth. It was honestly a waste of time and money. If you care about your hair, save yourself the headache and go somewhere else. This place does not care about their clients or quality service. Absolutely would not recommend.

I love New Ocean salon! Very friendly people and phenomenal work. I came here for the first time 4 years ago and got my hair cut by Michelle. She did an amazing job and for an amazing price. Years later I go again and another incredible experience. This time Terry cut and styled my hair. He was so meticulous and did such an amazing job! Highly highly recommend! 🤍

My girlfriend went here as a new customer, and they BUTCHERED her hair. DO NOT GO HERE. They treated her terribly at every step of the way and tried to gaslight her into thinking it was what she wanted. After voicing her opinion, they tried to force her to pay. These people DO NOT know how to cut hair.

Best haircut I've had in Chinatown! I did the special treatment so it was like $45 for a wash, cut, and oil treatment. Super worth it. The hairdresser Michael was very precise and cut my hair perfectly. He didn't curl my hair at the end so I could see how even it was. He was really nice too. I recommended to all my fam and friends already!

The lady who washes hair doesn’t do a good job and I literally got chased by her and the hairdresser to tip her ( I tipped the hair dresser first ) but they force you to tip the lady who washes hair who does a terrible job, I will not be coming here again I have been coming for over four years and the quality has declined but the prices have gone up and now you get pressed to tip even though the service is trash. Will be going elsewhere.

Michelle is really the best. She takes her time with the cuts and makes suggestions because she genuinely wants the best hairstyle for you. She listens and sticks to the reference photos. I haven’t stayed with a particular stylist in New York for the past few years, but I’ve finally found one that I’ll be sticking with. Price point is great too. Cash only, so come prepared.

I use to love this place. I didn’t realize there was another male stylist when I called and needed to get my hair cut in time before I closed and rushed over. To find the guy that usually does my hair wasn’t there instead I had some one named Michael who didn’t listen to how much I wanted cut off. Instead he cut off all my beautiful hair didn’t layer probably in back like asked and did terrible styling as well. I left the salon feeling worse when I came in. Next time I will make sure it’s never with him. 😭

My go-to salon, love this place. EDIT: This used to be such a rare gem for me, but the quality has gone down in both craft and customer service. I can never be seen by Michelle, it seems. I once drifted off in her chair a couple years back after a very long day at work while she was cutting my hair. I was just nodding off, but I was awake enough to know when my hair was done, if that makes sense. She’s refused to do my hair since. I also came in recently and there was a new guy with an ear piercing who I’ve not seen here before, and I had been going since early 2019. My hair cut was $30 and I tipped $20. This man told me it was not enough and told me to go to the nearest Chase to get more, so I ended up tipping the same amount as the haircut itself. My hair was also not done as I asked. I specifically wanted short curtain bangs to frame my face yet ended up again, for the third time in a row here, with limp bangs that start at my chin on my already long face. I travel from Queens for this place, so I think in future I’ll just pay the extra $20 to have it done nearby instead.

1st time I went $22. This time Terry charged me $25 & I gave him a $10 tip. On top of the $10 tip he emphasized and reminded me of the lady who I paid, was the same lady who washed my hair (Meaning I would also have to tip her) I gave her a $5 tip but begging isn’t cute. That isn’t great customer service either. Hair should be done with price posted whether you get tipped or not. If you feel you need to beg for more tip or money then change your pricing. Other than that great job blowing it out but I didn’t like the begging for tip at all

Expert, friendly barbers in a no-frills place. Been a regular for years - I go with whoever is available when I arrive and I have never been disappointed. They take their time and are gentle, attentive and precise. Cash only, but great prices. Highly recommend!

Great haircut & highlights at a good, affordable price. Staff is friendly & I appreciated the suggested (& used) toner adjustment to tone down some red that wont go away. Loved how silky smooth my hair was & stayed.

I did not realized they only take cash but I still love my haircut. All my 50 years in America I discovered NOT one single American salon can cut Asian hair. I still have to go to an Asian salon for my haircut and this place did an amazing job.
