I went to New Vintage for a cut and was coloring my hair for the first time in 20 years. I was nervous to say the least.I had heard good things about their stylists so I took a leap of faith. The hairdresser worked closely and patiently with me as I had a lot of trepidation about the process. I am leaving a review because I was thrilled by my entire experience and tbh wasn’t expecting such a wonderful experience! My stylist was so friendly and engaging I stopped freaking out in my head and ended up with an amazing new style and color!!!! I will be going back now every time to New Vintage for upkeep!

Transformation hair cut from Jikaiah still looks great after grow out! With curly hair, sometimes layers don't look great as they grow longer. Everyone in the salon has been friendly and welcoming! Good energy and beautiful craft styles.

Amended due to great customer service. I really appreciate Emily’s helpful and compassionate response. _____ I don’t like leaving bad reviews, but had to say something because I’m having a bad hair day. I came in hoping to get a dark strawberry blonde (from my natural color which is dark brown) and I left with very light blonde patchy highlights that contrast against my natural color. There’s a chunk in the front where I part my hair where the highlights are missing so it looks like a dark streak amongst almost platinum. Underneath is dark brown so when I put my hair up it’s like I have two toned split in half hair! I specified that I didn’t want highlights, but rather an even warm color that was a few shades lighter than my natural. I brought in a few reference photos including one of myself with the exact hair I wanted. The salon lighting was a bit dark so I couldn’t tell exactly what it looked like until i had left. Because I was only visiting I can’t come back for a retouch and will have to spend more after the almost $300 I just spent in order to get the color I wanted. Feeling disappointed.

Great experience, and great vibe. The building and installations are very nice. It was worth the drive for a different style and stylist that completely understood my expectations. I was terrified of going to the salon after doing my own hair by myself for years, but Lauren put me at ease with her confidence.

I just had my highlights done by Lauren. She did an outstanding job! My hair was raw and brassy from color stripping it a few weeks ago. I had hot roots, orange and brown hair uand greys starting to poke through. A mess! I walked out with chocolate brown hair and a ton of beautifully placed caramel highlights. I just love it!

I saw Josh Jones today for a haircut. He was so incredibly nice and friendly. I felt like I was in very good hands. This place feels very inclusive and comfortable. I definitely recommend NVBL!

I was visiting Portland for a wedding and decided to stop and get my hair done. I booked a haircut and highlights for the day of with Grace. She did an absolutely amazing job. I can't recommend her enough. She even charged me for a cheaper service than I had booked because I had booked a more lengthy highlighting procedure than was needed for the look I wanted. She was really friendly and took the time to really understand what I wanted and customized everything to what I wanted. I felt like she was able to read my mind and give me the style I wanted even when I didn't know how to describe it. I love the custom toner color she made for my hair! (Please excuse the before photo- it's from the plane ride to Portland)

Romie is amazing. Came here today for a transformation haircut (after not visiting a hair salon for close to 2 years), showed Romie a picture or two of the style I wanted, got some good advice back and walked out with the cut that really feels like "me", and according to my preteen daughter makes me look 10 years younger.

UPDATE: After posting the review below, Oliver - who is now the manager reached out minutes after my post and offered solutions to improve my experience with NVBL. In the moment it was a frustrating and disappointing experience, but his effort and communication remedied the situation. Thanks, Oliver! They're lucky to have you. (changing my review from two to four starts) I made the mistake of booking a "short hair" appointment with Lindsey when I should have booked a "long hair" appointment (my hair is chin-length and I don't recall seeing a distinction on the booking site). I'll own that. When I walked in and met Lindsey for the first time, it was clear she was less than enthused to see/meet me. Lindsey explained my booking error and that she didn't have time to cut my hair. I apologized and was ready to leave, but then she offered to cut my hair, but explained there wouldn't be time to dry it. Great! Rad! Let's do it! I also offered to forgo the wash to save time. It seemed like it was going to work out - I'll get my haircut (BTW my regular stylist from another salon cancelled two days prior and my BF is getting married this weekend) and she'll still get paid for her time. Seems win, win to me. However, her energy did not change. She was clearly not having me, but I moved forward since she (generously) offered to accommodate me. I showed her photos of what I was thinking, told her about my hair, what I wanted and that I was open to suggestions. The hair in the photos were similar to mine, but textured/thinned and with shorter bangs. I explained that I normally wear my hair straight or wavy and that I wanted shorter bangs and textured hair to minimize the curl/frizz in the rainy season. Lindsey then informed me that I didn't, in fact, need a haircut but rather to know how to style my hair. She said that the only difference between my hair and those in the photos, was the photographed hair was styled. Really, not true as each photo featured textured/thinned hair with shorter bangs. Had she listened to me earlier, she would've known that I intentionally didn't style my hair so she could see my curls and frizz, which I'm told by stylists is helpful. Even if I "styled" my hair, the frizz will take hold in the humidity so it doesn't matter how "styled" your hair is. There are ways to cut/thin/texture hair to disrupt it from frizzing and curling aggressively. I know because I've had it done to my hair. It was clear Lindsey didn't want to help me and I wasn't interested in her styling lesson. As I was leaving, she told me that she was "only here to help". Huh? So she's not only going to give me BS reasons for why she isn't helping me, but gaslighting me at the same time? So maybe she had a bad day and was "off". I get that and I have space for that as I've been struggling too. I also work in the service industry where reviews greatly impact your business and for that reason, I've never left a negative review until today. I couldn't find an email address to write to, so here I am. I'm still giving two stars because of previous positive experiences at New Vintage (Oliver!) and maybe this was truly just a bad day. But that sucked.

I absolutely love New Vintage! I’ve been seeing Alyss for 6 months now and I won’t go anywhere else. I met her when my last stylist had gotten a little wild with hair dye and I desperately needed fixed. My hair is gorgeous now and I always leave with a massive smile. She’s SO friendly and I just adore the whole staff.

I asked for a vintage-styled curly hairstyle, but they said they couldn’t achieve the same look. I then asked if they could curl my hair and told them that my hair doesn’t hold very well and to take the proper precautions to make sure it was maintained for a photoshoot I had. The curls ended up falling within 15mins of leaving the salon, so I asked if they could re-curl my hair, it ended up looking slightly better, but the ends were bone straight. I wasted 250$ for a style I could’ve done better at home. The staff we overall very friendly and professional but the prices they charge for their work is laughable.

I underwhelmed about the cut I got. I paid $81 dollars for a really choppy uneven haircut. This was the first haircut I got in 4 years and it didn't even turn out that way I wanted. I still appreciate the effort but I could've gotten the same haircut for $40 at great clips. Thanks a lot Lindsey rae 😐

Keshia gave me the single best haircut I've ever had in my life. She was so nice to talk to and so personable, my entire time spent in her chair was really delightful. I'm already looking forward to my next appointment with her.

Okayyyy, let’s just start with how my stylist Josh~ Freaking killed my haircut! In the best of ways. He was friendly without the connection feeling forced, gave me the cutest Bob, and knew exactly how to frame my face shape. ❤️😭 The shop was cute but what will get me to come back is Josh! Thank you!

Crazy expensive. They charged $81 for my 16 yr old son's haircut that took about 30 minutes to cut. Same price they charged me and my hair is long and took twice as long to cut. Don't be fooled by their posted prices online that + sign sure means a lot. Not unhappy with his cut but it certainly wasn't $81 quality.

I came in with badly damaged hair from an overbleaching and Josh completely fixed it in one session. He not only color corrected, he listened to what I had to say about my hair, was honest about what he could get done and what could be managed, and gave me great advice for how to care for it at home. Before the appointment, my hair was orange at the bottom and bright yellow. I have curly hair and all of my curls were gone, it was just frizzy from the damage and whenever my hair got wet it felt like pond slime. Josh used purples to go over the orange so the color is vibrant and even managed to make my hair go from feeling like straw to feeling like my normal hair. My first shower after the appointment, my hair even felt like hair again. Josh is an absolute miracle worker and I will *definitely* be coming back just to have him work in my hair again. He is amazing and I would recommend him to anyone.

I love Shelby at New Vintage but all the stylists I have had do a great job. The front desk folks are always super nice and remember me when I come in. Before the pandemic they would always offer a coffee or beverage. I've been coming here for years. Parking can be difficult but that's the price you pay for visiting a popular street like Mississippi!

Nicole is the best! If you’re looking for someone that knows how to do icy, ashy blondes then she’s your girl. I didn’t have a stylist in Portland and desperately needed my hair highlighted....I am so glad I found her because it’s exactly what I wanted!
