Ambre gave me my best haircut of all time in the spring, so of course I had to return for another cut from her this fall! Earlier this year I chopped off an enormous amount of hair and went super short for the first time in years. I requested something slightly shorter this time and once again left the salon with incredible layers and a wonderful cut. She is truly so masterful at her craft and an absolute delight to chat with, I always leave in such a great mood! 10/10 would recommend Ambre! Also would like to add that unlike many salons, there are wonderful and welcoming vibes here from all of the staff members. Just a great experience everytime. Thank you Oko and Ambre!!!

I've been getting my hair cut by Ambre for about 6 or 7 years now (the last 3 years at Oko) and she's the only person I trust with my hair. I have thick, curly/wavy hair and she gets it right every time. She is incredibly knowledgeable and has taught me so much about how to take care of my hair, as well as insight on the specific techniques she is using to make my hair look/feel the way it does. The staff at Oko is also always so kind and welcoming. Even after I've moved away from the neighborhood I still come here!

The vibe of this place is cozy and both the receptionist and the stylist who cut my hair, Ambre, are really nice and easy to talk to. However the haircut I got is arguably the worst cut I've ever received. For context my hair was grown out to a good length for the stylist to work with, and was already really close to the style I was going for (short-medium wolf cut with lots of layers). I know this kind of cut isn't super easy to do, but my expectations were very realistic given where my hair was already at—all I need was a light refreshing of the layers in my hair that had grown out, and a little bit of texturizing on the sides and it would've turned out perfectly fine. I showed her a bunch of pictures all taken from the same model in different angles and lighting conditions for reference, and there seemed to be clear confirmation on what she was going to do with my hair. She then spent about an hour taking her time razor-cutting slowly in sections, which gave me confidence in what I thought would be the end result. I ended up with a scraggly, thin, sparse and choppy mullet in the back (I have fine but very dense hair so I'm not sure what happened), and a very flat heavy top section with little to no layers that does not blend into the sides because they were chopped to basically nothing (even though we agreed in the beginning on keeping the ears covered?). The front curtain section is about the only part that looks ok, but it doesn't matter when the rest of the cut is pretty butchered. When I came home my roommate said I looked like I went to sportsclips. I honestly have no idea how this place has such raving reviews, maybe nobody goes for layered cuts here? I know this all sounds brutal, and I honestly wouldn't be writing this harsh of a review if she didn't charge $105(!!) for the service—I mean I've gotten *astronomically* better haircuts from stylists out in the suburbs who only charge 30-40$. I REALLY regret spending my money here; I have no chance at getting it back because they have a zero refund policy and only offer for you to come back within two weeks to do corrections. In my case the damage is already done, and I have to wait for my hair to grow back out. This place is proof that price absolutely does not dictate quality of a cut or the skill of a hairdresser. Again, Ambre is really nice and seemed like a very sweet and genuine person; I just can't get over what I paid for in contrast to what I got. Edit: I did end up receiving a refund despite their policy, and I really do appreciate it; this is clearly a courteous and professional business. For those reading this and thinking of booking here—have a discussion with the receptionist about what service/style you're looking to have done, and which stylist might have specialized skills in that area. It's possible I just got terribly unlucky, but I only have my experience to go off of.

Ania at Oko salon is the absolute best! She is incredibly knowledgeable and always guides me through my haircut to ensure I’m getting the exact cut I want! I let her know I’m working on growing my hair out, and she gave me multiple suggestions on what care I need / what cut would be best for me. It’s also incredibly cute and chill vibes inside the salon, overall a great experience! Thank you!

First time customer at Oko - was referred from my previous stylist (who’s retiring from hair). Scheduled a curly cut with Caro who was great! And the salon overall has a great vibe - love that they specialize in curly cuts. Will be returning for my next cut :)

I have been going to Oko for about a year now and I absolutely love it. I can't recommend it enough! The space is so beautifully curated and very clean. I see Caro, who is an amazing and talented stylist. She mixes up custom colors for me and I love them every time. She really knows how to cut and work with my curly hair. 20/10! Additionally, the admin team is also so hardworking and organized. They are always so on top of confirming your appointments , consistently checking the the wait list to accommodate your appointment needs and they greet you when you walk into the salon, take your coat and offer you a beverage.

I've been to quite a few salons in Chicago and Oko is by far my favorite salon. The owners are very nice. My first appointment, one of the owners actually remembered chatting with me in line for a show a couple weeks before. Really like the products they use as they are good for sensitive skin. Nicole Tenerowicz is a sorceress when it comes to bleaching and wavy hair. I didn't even know my hair could be this wavy!

Amazing salon — 10000% recommend! Everyone was very sweet and on top of making sure I was comfortable. I had Ambre as my stylist and she was amazing. She asked me what I was looking to do with my hair cut and made sure to check in a few times during the hair cut to see if I liked where it was going (which of course I did cause she killed it!). If you’re looking for a great new salon with wonderful people who pay close attention to your needs and listen, go to Oko!!

Ania is wonderful and the shop is clean, cute, and friendly. Tidy retro styling with some vintage chotchkis & whatnot to look at while you're getting your hair done. Ania is patient with a good eye, a good listener, and very knowledgeable with color. I did not have much experience to know what I wanted color-wise and I was in expert hands. They carry R+Co products but they are not pushy with the product sales at all.

Haven’t been to a salon in a LONG time so I was a little anxious about having my hair done professionally again - my stylist Nicole was very nice and not judgmental about the state of my hair at all. She gave me a nice cut and color and gave my hair an amazing reset.

I can’t say enough about this place and Ambre in particular. I have long hair that I only have cut about twice a year, and tend to go to cheaper salons, because it’s hard to mess up long hair, right? WRONG. I came in with a horribly botched cut. I mean AWFUL. I decided to pay a bit more (but not that much more) to see Ambre who came highly recommended. This girl worked absolute wonders. She listened so well to what I wanted. I will absolutely never look for a cheap cut again. The extra few bucks is absolutely worth the artistry that Ambre achieved. She is so sweet and just changed my hair life completely. No more covering up bad cuts with curling irons and heat heat heat. I can confidently air dry now when in a hurry! Thank you Ambre for being my hair savior.

She cuts, she colors, she shaves, she does wedding hair y’all! Caro has been cutting and coloring my very thick hair for about 5 years now. I don’t trust anyone else with my hair at this point so I asked her to style my hair for my wedding. Caro did amazing; my hair stayed up and looking beautiful all night long which for thick hair like mine is truly a miracle. I can’t wait to go see her to cut my hair back into a bob and color it pink.

Ania is amazing at what she does! I never knew what a good haircut and style for my wavey hair was and was so used to leaving underwhelmed by every hair cut I ever got, until I started seeing her. I will always recommend all curly haired folks see her! Also, love when she shares product recommendations because I truly had no clue how to style my hair before haha. Plus Oko Salon is just a vibe in general-everyone is so warm and welcoming and the space is beautiful.
