Terrible damage was done to my hair due to a fully negligent assistant and distracted stylist. I have very long, fine hair and a lot of it. I expect anyone trained in hair styling to understand how to wash and brush all hair types, and be especially careful with those that tangle easily. No one should be touching clients hair if they are not fully qualified to tailor the service to individual hair needs. I had to ask the assistant multiple times while she was washing to please stop ripping her hands through my hair. She washed my hair into a tangled ball. She then started hacking at it with a brush in a way that continued to tear up my hair. I asked her to please stop, again. The stylist then came and detangled my hair in a continued negligence to its type but was at least not hurting me (although I could tell was still damaging the hair). The stylist then insinuated I don’t take good care of my hair because it was tangled. I take very good care of my hair and my usual stylist has told me for years that I have long healthy hair. The cut was fine. I don’t feel like she was paying much attention and people from the salon kept asking her questions and interrupting the session. This is quite different than any hair cut experience I’ve ever had. Ultimately the cut is chunky and doesn’t work for my hair type. And then, the second wash. I had to ask the assistant AGAIN to be careful with my hair. Ultimately ending in asking her to stop touching me. She sat me back down and I was starting to cry while looking at the tangled ball again. The stylist once again tried to insinuate it was either “the bowl” or maybe I should get a filter for my shower head. Absurd. I came to your salon for the tailored attention to detail that is advertised and expected my stylist to take a moment to understand my hair type and provide a good end result. Instead I was physically hurt, insulted, and my hair is now ripped up and frizzy and my scalp is sore today. For someone who has taken care of their hair and it is a very spiritual process - this experience has been nothing short of traumatic. My hair has never looked like this in my life.

Jason is a phenomenal colorist. Every time I get my hair colored by him, I leave feeling more confident than ever—his talent is unmatched. On top of that, Fortune, who's an assistant, was so warm and friendly. This was an amazing experience from start to finish. I couldn’t recommend them more highly!

Not for people with 4A-4C hair and if there is a stylist that specialized in tight curls then it is not well-advertised at all. I was disappointed to have a black woman (Shantell) give my haircut a “curly cut” only to have it blow dried (after I saw the cut and thought hell no) and it being chopped to pieces. My thing is if you’re gonna send me home like that, why in the world do you think as a professional stylist, that I’d be happy later once I blowdried on my own and saw uneven hair. My hair was quickly fixed, but only after paying an extra $100. All the staff were nice. Please only go if you have a recommendation of a specific stylist. I absolutely would not go if you have hair tighter than waves/loose curls.

Ouidad is a good salon, but pricey. I was fortunate to have had gift cards and good hair stylists the 3 times I went there.

I went for a haircut with Shundell and she was absolutely amazing! She is great and very experienced with haircuts for curly hair and listened to what I wanted. Recommend 10/10

Jessica is the best hairstylist for my curls! When I came to her first time my curls were non existent. She guide me through the right path and since then I have been getting the most compliments ever! She is truly phenomenal and knows her craft! Totally recommend her if your curls are not the best out there go to Jessica. She will guide you through. The best curl coach out there!!!

Mirsada @ Ouidad is an absolute genius with curly hair! I went in for a much-needed refresh and decided to go bold with bangs -- I am obsessed! The bangs are perfection, and my curls have never looked so healthy and bouncy. She also really showed me how much of each product I should be using, which I find very helpful!

I had high hopes for my first visit to a curly hair salon, but my experience at the Ouidad Salon in NYC was disappointing. The salon wasn’t busy when I went—there were about six other clients—so I expected more attention and guidance, especially considering Ouidad is known for their expertise in curly hair care. The girl who washed my hair barely spoke to me unless I initiated the conversation. When I asked questions about the services, I received minimal answers, and the rest of the wash was done in silence. I was hoping to learn something new about how to care for my curls or get an introduction to their products, but that didn’t happen. My stylist seemed rushed and unfriendly, and it felt like I was inconveniencing her. She didn’t offer any explanations about the products she was using or why, which was disappointing given that Ouidad is a brand specifically designed for curly hair. Apart from telling me to “keep your head straight” in a sharp tone and dismissively directing me to the dryer, there was barely any interaction. She offered me coffee or tea while I was under the dryer, which felt oddly timed and impersonal. When the styling was done, I realized she used the same $7 bottle of gel that I have at home. I left the salon feeling like I could have achieved the same results on my own, without the awkwardness. To top it off, when it was time to pay, the receptionist asked, “Are you buying any products today?” after the complete lack of guidance from the stylist. I had no idea which products to even consider because no one bothered to discuss them with me. Overall, I was left disappointed, and I won’t be returning or recommending this salon to anyone looking for a curly hair salon to call home

I’ve been going to Ouidad for two years, and Lenny (Horlenny Burgos) has been a phenomenal stylist for my curls. She gave me an incredible color transformation, making my journey to blonde highlights a dream come true. I was disappointed to hear she’s no longer there, but I’m happy to have found her new page @goodcurlssuite

booked with jessica and i love my new hair! ive worn my hair down no more than 5 times in the last 2 years after a botched haircut from a friend, but after getting my haircut by Jessica im obsessed (and so is my boyfriend lol)! i didnt come in with a picture, but said i wanted more volume (my hair is superr fine) but also wanted to keep as much length as possible. she explained to me what she was going to do to achieve this and i let her do her thing, and i couldnt be happier. i can even do half up half down styles without looking like im balding, so i defo got my money’s worth. she also told me how to style it at home to achieve a similar look when i told her i usually airdry my hair. 4 sure booking with her again when its time for a refresh! :3 (also took a longgg nap when i got home from my appointment and had dinner with friends right after when this pic was taken. safe 2 say the styling held up!)

So glad I found Ouidad! I've had nothing but great experiences (except once, when I didn't go to my usual stylist). Keesha is the absolute BEST. I hadn't gone to Ouidad in a while and found out she had left but for anyone that also loves her style, I found her at @iconicurlkeesha on Instagram. If it wasn't for Ouidad, I wouldn't have found her -- best decision ever.

I went for the third time and decided to step it up and go with a senior stylist. Robert Thomas. He’s been there a long time. Asked him for a very small trim and specifically told him I liked beach waves. Left with a huge haircut and a poodle hairstyle. I was so embarrassed I ran to get a blow out. I also got a Brazilian since my hair is so short and my curls make it shorter now. It’s also not a great haircut. Super choppy I wrote the company about it but got no response. I’m unfortunately never going back.

My stylist was kind and I am satisfied with my hair but that’s it. I feel like I’m not the target audience for this kind of salon as a person in their early 20s. I came here as a child a few times but now that I’m an adult the excitement about getting a new style isn’t something I think they care about as much as I do.

$240+ for a very blah customer service experience and an extremely lack luster hair cut. Hair is cut in blocks. Very disappointed. Very surprising since it is supposed to be a senior stylist.

My daughter got her hair done by Keesha . She did an absolutely amazing job. My daughter is a teenager so has a hard time managing her thick curls. Keesha made it lighter and cut it exactly how my daughter wanted it . I highly recommend Keesha .

A friend recommended Ouidad to me after I realized that I could not for the life of me get a haircut that worked for my curly hair. While I love the Ouidad experience, I ended up trying out a few different stylists until I met Horlenny. Beyond having the best demeanor and not putting any pressure on me to incorporate more products into my routine, she’s honest, so talented, and has my complete trust. After my first cut with her I knew I wouldn’t be able to see anyone else, and my hair has never been healthier!

Have always wanted to go to Quidad, but lets face it...it is expensive. I Read the reviews on the different stylist and chose Jessica. Why Jessica?? .Her reviews were good and besides it is my daughter in laws name so I took it as an omen. We discussed my hair and what I wanted to achieve. She didn't think carve and slice was the right cut for me and explained why so I told her to just do her thing. Sometimes you just have to listen to the experts. I wasn't thrilled when she was finished but being a former hair dresser I knew that the cut was great. I just felt the curls were too tight. DAY 2...my hair looks fabulous... Day 3, even better than day 2 . THANK YOU JESSICA for such a great hair cut.

Horlenny is absolutely amazing!! I went to her after going to the WRONG person to have my jet black long curly hair dyed blonde. I wanted a change and should have done more research before hand. I thought my hair was ruined but Horlenny totally transformed my brittle bleached blonde hair back it’s beautiful curls!!! She was so personable to talk to during our appointment. She is now the only person I let touch my hair!

I took my 11 year old here for some 911 hair repair. I don’t have curly hair so Ive helped her all I can but she needed some expert care. To sum it up I cried when she was done. Anila took such amazing care of her and taught her what to do so she can take over! She has so much confidence now and can’t stop smiling. The woman behind the counter was amazing too and let her take her pick of brushes! I really can’t recommend this salon enough! THANK YOU again to the whole staff!

I was so nervous coming to Ouidad because it was my first time going to a new salon and new stylist in like a decade. Horlenny was so kind, so knowledgeable, and so freaking amazing!! You come in and receive your robe and then sit with your stylist to discuss what you want out of your hair. Horlenny listened to my concerns and really understood my hair and its texture. I have 3bish hair and I get a ton of shrinkage. Horlenny cut my hair so beautifully and gave me such great advice. The person who washed my hair was so gentle, kind, and attentive. I feel so blessed and happy to have come to Ouidad!

I went to Ouidad on East 19th street with high expectations that I would come out of there with a brand new look but that didnt happen. My first time at Ouidad many months back I was treated like I was the only one there. The hair stylist explained to me everything she was doing, showed how to do my hair at home and recommended products but this time around I got none of that. What I came out with was a bad hair treatment, a bad and uneven hair cut and nothing to write home about given the enormous amount of money I spent. I paid for a deep treatment and haircut and styling. My hairstylist seemed to complete disregard my request for a haircut that was different and I even told her that I did not want a straight hair or a U shape hair in the back and that is exactly what I got. I also want to mention that while I was being serviced during my time that I paid for I had to sit with my wet hair on another chair for a long time\ because she had, what appeared to be a friend on her chair getting a haircut. The assistant although nice seemed to be in a different world. This is my second or third time at this place but will not be coming back. I went in with a boring/bland haircut and came out with a bland/boring haircut. I had even refereed this place to a friend bc of my first experience and she had Ryan as her hair stylist and he did everything and more for her.

I've been to other curly hair specialists in NYC, but Ouidad has been the only salon to give me consistently great curly haircuts. I've had a different hairstylist all three times I've gone & they all worked wonders. The stylists listen to your needs, work with your hair texture, and are more than happy to provide advice and guidance. And they actually dry and style curly hair correctly, with plenty of volume and minimal frizz. The salon is pricey ($150+ for a haircut) but worth it. I tend to get a haircut every 9-12 months and the ones I get from Ouidad grow out well over time & need minimal maintenance.

Mirsada is a curly-hair wizard! I’ve struggled to find someone who can cut my hair, which are soft curls so particularly complicated to cut well. After receiving two butcherings and enduring a year of awkward hair while growing it out again, Mirsada gave me one of the best cuts I’ve we’ve had. Immensely grateful for having my hair back!
