the service was nice, water served in a mason jar and nice stylists. i believe if i went to a different stylist that i would have had a different outcome. to start, the stylist was five minutes late to the appointment, i had gotten there on time and the stylist wasn’t there. then there was barely any conversation and personality from the hairdresser as the service was silent for most of the time. i wasn’t aware of what was going on with my hair. my hair is naturally dark and i was hoping to at least lift to what color my highlights were. i left with brassy/orange roots and blotchy bleach spots all over my hair. horrible color job, i would never recommend anyone to go here for color services. i spent over 200 dollars only to be met with another service that would cost me over 100 dollars. i will never come back here again as they hadn’t reached my expectations. parts of my hair were blonde that I DID NOT SAY i wanted bleached.

My first time at Outsiders and I am highly impressed. The atmosphere is so inviting and the salon itself is beautifully decorated. Lex cut my hair and gave me exactly what I wanted and even made sure to check with me throughout our appointment in case I wanted to make any changes. She is very personable and I felt comfortable talking to her during our appointment. I will definitely be coming back and I highly recommend this salon.

My first time burner at Burning Man, and I was looking for someone to do my hair before heading out. Laura did an incredible job on my braids—I love how they turned out! If you ever need someone who can do amazing braids for Burning Man, I highly recommend Laura. She’s incredibly skilled and has so much patience, even with the sun beating down on her while she worked on my hair. 😂 The braids survived the playa, but I’m not sure about my dignity after dancing in the dust!

I love this salon. I love my stylist Lex! Never before have I had a stylist match the inspiration picture so well! The stylists here are so fun to watch working together too! Just a bunch of cool girls sharing knowledge and style and experience to mix exactly the right shade for clients! I love seeing the cool transformations of other clients happen around me, such a great vibe! I even bring my boyfriend here too for his haircuts now as he does a long Mohawk, he looks great, styled by Jessica Hernandez. Always feel comfortable, inclusive environment, wonderful stylists. This is the best hair I have had in years. A real Gem!!

Regrettably, I must downgrade my previous five-star rating due to a disappointing encounter at this salon. Although I've had many enjoyable experiences with Alix and Darla in the past they are the best hairdresser in Reno. But today's visit was a disappointment and I dont want to name the hairdresser. Despite booking a $69 service, she asked me if I needed just a trim. During the consultation about my desired haircut, I expressed my wish for volume in the front while maintaining the length in the back. However, the stylist seemed puzzled when I mentioned that I don't use heat on my hair, insisting that achieving volume without heat was "impossible." This assertion was both surprising and frustrating to me, as it seemed to indicate a lack of understanding of my hair care preferences. As someone with good-quality hair, I simply wanted a decent haircut to showcase its natural beauty. Overall, this experience fell far short of my expectations and led to my decision to reconsider my rating of this salon.

Hidden location, bad haircut and horrible customer service. I had my first appointment six weeks ago. It was not a great haircut: one side of my bangs were shorter than the other, the cut looked a lot like a bowl cut, and I ended up with a random chunk of hair in the back that that didn’t blend into the rest of the cut at all—it’s one long, out of place chunk. I have very fine hair and have many bad cuts, so I didn’t hold one bad cut against the stylist, and booked a second appointment. Unfortunately, I got Thursdays at 3:30 stuck in my head as the time for my cut. Oops, it was Wednesday, not Thursday. When I got the message that I was late, I called back right away, but because it was too late, I was going to be charged for no call no show. I explained that it was a mistake and would be happy to reschedule, but Jessica was going to charge me anyway. So I’ve decided that Outsiders Salon is not the salon where I will be having my hair done. Terrible business model: get paid for one haircut but lose repeat business. I wonder if the second haircut would have been as bad as the first. I’ll never know.

I moved into the area 6 months ago and needed a haircut. I had already been canceled on by a different salon because the hairdresser didn’t cut “mens” hair. I found outsiders via Reddit thread and decided to try it. After my horrible experience with that other salon I was really scared for my first appointment with Jessica so I presented more masculine than I normally would. But she was so kind and welcoming and my fears rushed away and I felt very safe, comfortable, and not judged. Jessica gave me a great haircut! My next appointment I felt comfortable enough to present as my true self and got a great trim and a cute curl! I’ve been coming here ever since! The environment is super good for LGBTQ individuals and all the staff have been super kind! Would recommend!

Outsiders is such a great salon. After my hairdresser moved I was concerned, but Darla did a fabulous job on my hair and her scalp treatment was heavenly. The shop tries to be very eco conscious which I really appreciate. Prices are decent and the ambiance is funky comfy!

I came here just once to get more blonde highlights in my hair, and the stylist ended up breaking off about a third of the hair on my head by not safely lightening the hair. Not to mention the color ended up being more of an orange shade, not blonde. it has been six months now and thankfully I was able to get extensions to cover up the extreme damage, but this was the most expensive and time consuming hair appointment I’ve ever been to in my life, and completely ruined my hair as a seventeen year old. Wish I had saved myself all that time and money and the years it will take to regrow the entire top layer of my hair.

I wasn't feeling too hot for my appointment this past weekend, and Lauren rocked my hair like a pro anyway. Every time I go she's so nice, is so easy to talk to and gives me a darn good haircut. I feel like I always leave feeling like a million bucks, and she's got an awesome sense of humor too. Brightened up my day! Lauren always gives me exactly what I wanted as well -- I finally look how I've always wanted! Not a lot of people know how to cut wavy/curly hair, and she's brought my locks to life again. Can't recommend this place enough.

Megan. is extremely talented and educated. She is a wonderful part of a lovely team at Outsiders! I really needed a great cut to after months of not feeling myself and neglecting my hair. She took SUCH good care of me in every way! My hair turned out better than I ever hoped it could and she was attentive, knowledgeable, and so sweet and kind to me throughout the appointment! I genuinely look forward to my next visit.

Alix Gray has been cutting my hair for over a year now! She does great with my short hair cut and making sure it stays low maintenance for me. She also did amazing braids and Updos for my wedding. The few times I wasn’t able to see Alix and worked with other stylist at Outsiders, they were great as well! Can’t go wrong here.

I’ve been here three times to get my hair done by Mirranda. Mirranda has been amazing each time. She has such as skill with hair and I never feel any pain even when she moves quickly. She always makes sure I know what to expect and I love the outcome each time. The environment of the shop in general is clean, cozy, and beautiful. Even better, it’s part of Green Circle and they recycle and properly dispose of all products they use! A great place.

My girlfriend went in looking to get a longer pixie cut, she had a video of the exact hairstyle she wanted. The guy ended up convincing her to get a bob with bangs to train her hair, which is completely understandable, but to give her a hair cut that isn’t even close to what she asked for and then proceed to charge her $76 is ridiculous. She is completely unhappy with her appearance and her confidence has been shot. I was really hoping this place would be great but I’m disappointed and think it is a waste of money.
