I was in Philly for a wedding back in October and was frantically searching last minute for a place to get a blowout. I came across Philadelphia Hair Design and was so happy with my experience. You never really know what you’re going to get when you go to a place out of town but my stylist Kenah did the most amazing job. She perfectly styled my hair and it stayed that way all night throughout the wedding. I would absolutely go back next time I’m in Philly!

I made an appointment for the very first time because I was in bad need of color and a cut. My first time here and I’m overwhelmingly satisfied with my hair. My stylist Megan took lots of time working with me to make sure that she knew what I wanted and would give me the best possible service. Her technique is superb and a great value compared to other salons. The ambience is very nice, and I Would This salon to anyone in need of a full service salon. Looking forward to coming back to my new favorite. Highly recommend

This salon charges by the minute to blow dry hair..since I have mid length curly hair, I was told the stylist would charge me for every extra 10 mins she spent on my hair. If you’re okay with that, I would recommend this salon for blowouts on 3b-4c hair textures. The stylist spent 2+ hours (with short breaks) to blow dry my hair. She was able to get my 3c-4a hair straight with low heat. I swear the heat was so low if she said she was using the cool setting I would've believed her. I felt uneasy about their pricing policy for textured hair, but overall I was impressed by the results!

Came in for a color correction, was very transparent that i used sun in on my blonde hair and wanted it dyed brown to cover the sun in color. After 8 hours and 400 dollars the stylist told me she didn't have experience with this and I would need to go somewhere else to have it fixed. I left with black and purple hair. I have sent an email last week to express my frustration that they did not stand behind their work and nobody from the salon has responded to me.

I went in for an updo style. I had a “level 2” stylist, whatever that means, but they were unfortunately not skilled at doing a basic updo. Too bad for me, I ended up being late to my event, since it took an hour to fix the “5-min” twist bun that she did on me. She grabbed random strands of my hair (without sectioning, or even combing first), lightly curled them, then twisted into a loose bun, stuck some pins in there, and called it a day. I’m appalled they thought they could charge $80 for that. I could’ve done my hair better in 5 mins. I wouldn’t go back.

TLDR: Love the stylists and the staff, hate their cancellation policy - almost feels like a trap. I loved my hair cut which I got in April, folks at the salon recommended setting up a follow up maintenance cut in the next 4 months which I agreed to that moment cause it felt like a good idea except, when August came around, I had forgotten about the appointment and missed an opportunity to modify it 24hrs prior. On the day of the appointment I tried my best to explain what had happened & when I realized that they won't waive off the cancellation fee in any situation (which btw is not a default amount but the cost of the service you were booked for) I considered rescheduling for a different service of higher cost on a later date which was month later (since I didn't really need another hair cut). This was recommended to me by the receptionist as a way to put my cancellation fee towards another service instead of completing losing out on it. At first, I didn't mind coming in for another service since folks there are good, but later I chose to cancel all together and forfeit the cancellation fee they had already charged cause I felt like I was being forced to come in for a service. Its great the PHD has good stylists and I understand their time is important so cancellations have an impact on them but accomodating customers, especially well-intented ones should ideally be prioritized as well. I would have love to come back if my situation was considered and my cancellation fee was waived off or lowered to a reasonable amount. I understand businesses run on certain policies but strict policies need better management! Here's what I suggest for PHD: - Call out your *cancellation policy* at the time of the booking, especially if you are so strict about it. - Send notifications in every way possible, again if you are strict about your policies. Text notifications are default method these days, don't rely on emails. - SET A MINIMUM CANCELLATION FEE! Imagine someone booking a $300+ service and missing that.

Everytime I come here I get excellent service!! Every member of the salon is an asset and does incredible work. I love seeing how Kate teaches her stylist to be confident and creative. Besides all that- the vibes are just relaxed and fun, like hanging out with friends.

My hair turned out so elegant and beautiful all thanks to Kenah who made me feel welcomed and understood throughout the entire appointment. My hair feels healthy and the color looks natural. I would absolutely recommend her if you want a calm, kind, and beautiful hair styling!

On the pricey side but worth it. I have my color done by Kate and she usually employs assistants to help her with the coloring process. Her mentorship is so good that I feel comfortable booking the level one stylists to do my regular trims and hair treatments. I’m really particular about haircuts due to my hair texture (tons of thick Asian hair that takes a lot of time and product to cut, bleach, blow dry, etc… ) so I take my time to look for people I can trust. I get lots of complements after the salon and throughout the year for the color even when I leave it a mess.

Do NOT book here if you have an important event. My mom and I booked hair styling / bridal blowout appts for my sister’s wedding today and they CANCELED on us DAY OF and 1.5 HOURS before our appt, basically forcing us into an impossible situation where NO other place would be available on such short notice. They allegedly cannot rebook us AT ALL with ANY stylist ALL day but truly felt like there was absolutely NO effort on their end. When they called me they literally just said “yeah the stylist you booked with is sick so…” and that was it. It’s completely ridiculous and unprofessional and so disappointing. Would never recommend this spot.

She won over my teens by listening to what they wanted and creating cuts from those descriptions that look amazing. She took me from a long, lifeless hairstyle to a short look I absolutely love. Had Grace Cranmer as my hairstylist today and she was outstanding! Her kind and fun persona and her extremely informed styling makes the experience the best.
