Tanya is talented and experienced and it shows. I get my hair dyed blue and cut into punky shapes and she has the vision and execution to make it look better than anything I could even imagine myself. I have wavy/curly hair which some stylists don't understand how to work with but she gets it. Her skill with bleach and dye makes my hair color last multiple times longer than anyone else has ever been able to get. She does great work on more traditional styles too as I've seen with other friends and customers.

My haircut from Tanya embarrassed me when I got home and looked in the mirror, and I had a slice on my nose where she stabbed me with her scissors, Her friends were sitting there on the bench telling her what to do to me and I was so scared . Do not get your hair cut here.

I got a cut and colored my hair for the first time and I’m so happy with my experience with Viva!! Not only did she do an incredible job with the dry cut she also really walked me through the color and was so creative with it. She was also so kind and made the experience feel very caring. 10/10 definitely coming back!!

I have really thick wavy hair that is usually pretty intimidating & gets pretty heavy. Viva Rose did an amazing job thinning it with layers to make it so much more manageable. I will definitely be coming back the next time!

I started going to Tanya 15 years ago. I moved out of the Bay Area and I ended up using other stylists. None of them were as good as her. Now I travel 2 hours to get my hair done by her. I get so many compliments on my hair after I see her. She has mastered the skill of hair cutting while also creating fun and creative hairstyles. She gets 5 stars!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I waited a while to post this review to wait and see if it would get better after a couple weeks but unfortunately the haircut I got looks uneven and a bit shapeless. Since there’s no styling done in person it’s also hard to tell until later. That said, Viva was so nice and I saw another one of her clients with shorter curly hair come in with an amazing haircut! I have pretty long curly 3a/b hair and didn’t quite work out for me. With curly hair you can’t tell as much but I’ve had to put my hair in a ponytail or bun most days. I don’t regret trying it out though and would definitely recommend for shorter hair!

I went to Tanya for years when I lived in San Francisco and dearly miss her cuts and colors since moving. I haven't been able to find anyone as talented and cool since I left. You will not leave Pirate Salon disappointed!!

I’ve been going to Tanya Mia for the last 10 years. Specifically, I wanted to find a great stylist who can handle curly/wavy hair. She is able to do dry cuts, which works much better for my high volume of hair. She never pushes any hair products or services, but has great recommendations when I ask. When I first moved to the city, I tried out several salons and when I finally found Pirate Salon, I’ve never looked again.

Tanya Mia is the only stylist I let touch my hair! I have curls, am an older mom who wants to look funky and she never disappoints. She’s so creative and I always leave with a style no one else has that continues to look amazing through months of grow-out. I travel from out of state to see her, she’s that good.

I have had 2 incredible haircuts now with Tanya Mia & and trust her completely with my curly, coily 3a/3b hair! My hair feels much healthier & the way it curls works so well with the layers and shape she created. She is also easy to talk to, respectful of masking/COVID-safe needs, & makes me feel more comfortable than I’ve ever felt in a salon! I can’t recommend Pirate Salon enough for curly hair (and all hair types)!

I’m a curly haired 3c middle eastern girl. I’ve had my fair share of bad haircuts but I’m telling you run don’t walk to Tanya Mia. I first went to her in 2013. Have since moved to NYC in 2020 and tried a bunch of the *expensive* curly haired salons there. They truly don’t compare to Tanya’s haircuts. Not only is my hair interesting (asymmetric curly hair bob anyone?) but it grows out beautifully. I’ve now taken my mom and sister to her. She’s fairly priced, one woman show and does beautiful hair. Remember it’s cash only and she cuts your hair dry. Go. You won’t regret it. She really is the best!

I’ve been a customer (and big fan) of TanyaMia’s for over a decade now. I’ve got that semi-frizzy, sometimes-wavy hair that can look dull and shapeless- but she knows how to cut (dry cut, brings out the wave and makes my hair look fuller). EVERY time it’s a quality cut, that lasts months and still looks fresh. Her skill with color/highlights gets me many compliments! Two more reasons I love her: she won’t cut your long hair any shorter than you request, and never insists on ‘blowing out’ the final result- something I can’t stand w other hair salons as I despise blowdryers. She’s very excellent and knows how to make your hair look it’s best!

I was lucky enough to get an appointment with Viva. My hair color was a mix of pandemic box dye desperation and ROOOOOTS for days, and my wolf cut was looking a little less “howl at the moon” and a lot more “wail into a pillow”- and she fixed me right up. Excellent time management skills, she works efficiently, professionally and creatively. She made my hair look incredible and is a super fun person to talk to. Could not recommend this salon and Viva enough. ❤️

Viva Rose did an amazing balayage on my curly hair. She took my vision and a random assortment of photos and totally brought it to life! She suggested a double process at first but I was nervous about the bleach - my hair came out great, but I think next time I’ll take her advice so I can get even more vibrancy. The color looked amazing while it was in my hair - it didn’t all take, but that is absolutely my fault for not doing the double process! She is a very talented artist and great company - I will definitely be back.

Viva Rose gave me my cut and touched up my greys. I gave her full control of what she felt would accentuate my apple shape face. I couldn't be more pleased. I didnt realize how badly i needed this. The best part, was the hair wash and massage. All my tention simply melted away! Great experience. Love her confidence. She really loves what she does and is very good at it.

Viva did an absolutely wonderful job at cutting my VERY curly hair! With extreme attention to detail for each individual curl and a completely dry cut (!!), I left feeling so grateful for all of the care and effort. Also, the salon is really cute and cozy with lots of fun pirate themed decorations. Was a super enjoyable experience and would HIGHLY recommend anyone with curly hair (or straight or wavy) to make a visit and have your hair cut by Viva!! Pirate Salon is unlike any salon I’ve ever visited, but by far my favorite and I will definitely be coming back in the future.
