I was so excited to come get my haircut here after reading the reviews. The salon itself is really nice, very cozy and welcoming vibes. The staff and Pixie are truly all so nice and they keep the salon stocked with wine/coffee/tea to make you as comfortable as possible. Really wanted this to be my new "home" but unfortunately the hair cut itself was a huge disappointment. I showed several pictures of the hair cut I wanted (even a video of someone getting their hair cut into the cut) and specifically said I wanted a bob with the length above my shoulder/below my chin. Pixie told me that the cut I wanted was all one length with no layers, it was just styling and assured me multiple times she would leave the cut longer than requested until the end when it was dry as we can always make it shorter. I was totally onboard, I've had bob haircuts before and this seemed very straightforward. Then, she said she was going to angle the front longer and I told her no multiple times, I've had an angled bob before but I didn't want that and to just leave everything one length. By the time she finished wet cutting, what I thought was her just texturizing the back was actually the back of my hair being cut up above my chin with these super short layers that got shorter and shorter as they went up - the top pieces being almost 2 inches above the bottom (which is significant when the back is already above your chin). And on top of that, when she finally turned me to the side I realized she still angled my hair and what I saw when I was sitting straight forward in the mirror was really the angled front - the rest of my hair was way shorter in the back. At that point it was already shorter than I wanted even in the front and had I cut anymore off it would have been a pixie bob and needed what length was still remaining. I tried not to freak out when I was there and thought I should give it a week hoping I would be able to work with it - but it just is nothing at all like what we discussed and the back of my hair is truly awful, it either looks like a weird mushroom if I try to round brush/volumize the short layers in the back or it flattens at a severe angle if I leave it straight and looks like i'm growing out a pixie cut. There unfortunately is no way to "fix" this because there isn't anything left to fix, it will just take me the next 6-8 months to grow this out enough to try and get rid of these super short layers. For her to literally tell me what I wanted was all one length/no layers then give me such a dramatically different angled/layered cut, I feel like she was either very distracted and forgot what we discussed or she just has a very specific aesthetic that she primarily does and that's just how she's going to cut it. Again, Pixie and the staff are so welcoming and the salon is beautiful so giving 2 stars for this, but so disappointed with the actual service itself.

Amazing studio , very artsy vibes always with good music , pleasant atmosphere to get hair done while enjoying the art work exposed in studio. I got the best cuts and color only here!

The best queer salon in NYC! Check out the color Pixie did for me in the pictures - flawless!!!! multiple other salons failed, I have strong pigment and left with piss yellow hair after one 5th ave salon 👀 Pixie however did not disappoint and look at haircut and that sharp line! Pixie is very talented at what they do and I am happy I found them!!

Pixie has been my stylist for eight years. I was lucky to find her at Dramatics when I moved back to NYC and I followed her to every location after she left Dramatics. She’s an amazing colorist and knows the best styles for my hair. She is talented, attentive, and so kind. I started bringing my youngest daughter (she’s 11) a year ago to Pixie. My daughter loves going to Pixie as well and feels so comfortable in the salon. The salon reflects Pixie’s personality: warm, artistic, and accepting. I highly recommend going to Pixie you’ll leave feeling wonderful! Thank you, Pixie!

Pixie Ruth is an incredibly talented stylist, they did an amazing job coloring my hair for the first time. I love the results! They have a beautiful space and I enjoyed killing a few hours there while waiting for the color to set in. I’d highly recommend seeing them!

She is wildly talented at styling whether I'm going for something colorful and fun or classic and I've sent many friends to her for a wide range of services - all have been delighted with the results. Beyond her talent as a stylist and artist, Pixie Ruth is an absolutely wonderful person. She is friendly and professional, lovely to spend time with, and makes clients feel so special. She has also been extremely careful with cleaning and procedures throughout the pandemic so I feel very safe with her and in her studio. Pixie is innovative, thoughtful, and consistently learning what is new in hair. I am a Latin woman with curly hair who loves changing my hair color OFTEN. When I moved to New York after years of going to the same salon, I was terrified of trying a new stylist. Pixie's warm personality, relaxing salon space and amazing haircut and color dispelled any of those worries. Pixie is also a pro at cutting curly hair, a rare gem. I can't wait to go back!

(as in "lifetime") She really listens, responds to your suggestions and gives great advice! You know how when a stylist first touches your hair, you feel whether they have experience and confidence? Well, you feel that experience immediately and most importantly it shows! : )
