Chan is amazing! My hair has never felt this good before!! 1000000/10 such a cute spot!! I am autistic and have ADHD and the appointment was so relaxed that my I didn't even need my sensory aide during the diffusing process because I was already so calm! Can't wait to visit again!

Chan is a curl MAGICIAN! I went to her thinking I had beach wavy hair and was looking for some advice on dealing with breakage and how to make my natural wave come out more. She gave me great advice and I came out with a head of loose curls!! Chan is wildly talented at her craft and I highly recommend! Also- her waitlist helped get me in much faster than originally anticipated!

Chan was amazing! Based on previous experiences with curly cuts from other stylists, I went into the appointment expecting her to do a complicated routine with a ton of products, but she was able to get my hair looking amazing and with more volume and defined curls than I’ve ever had before—all with just gel, a little mousse, and some water. She is seriously a miracle worker!

OMG, what a wonderful experience for my 14 year old daughter who developed really curly hair over the past year. Chan was amazing! We had tried every curly hair product and technique we could find from watching online videos and reviews to no avail. Chan cut my girl’s hair so well taking the frame of her face into account. She taught us how to wash, condition and apply the right product to such thick, curly low porosity hair. Then she styled it giving tips the whole time to make sure we understood how to repeat at home. The smiles on my daughter’s face were priceless. Soooo happy to have found Chan. And she’s an absolutely lovely person too.

Chan is definitely a curl expert. I saw her recently for a curly hair trim and advice on how to get my best curls. I have thin hair with loose ringlets and my before hair was mainly one length, leaving it flat on the top and more poofy at the bottom. She added layers without making my hair look more thin and was able to rejuvenate my curls. I’ve never had softer, more defined curls. This girl is magic.

You know your hair looks good when stylists and cosmetologists stop you in public to complement your hair. This has happened to me 4 times (Portland, Seattle, Atlanta) in the 2 months since Chan cut my hair. She is exceptional at her craft. I went to see Chan a few weeks after another “curl specialist” took more off than I wanted and left me with a shape I knew could not be the best for my face or style. I researched a lot harder, found Chan, and booked 4 days after my first cut. From the booking interaction onward, Chan is so communicative, clear, and proactive without ever feeling pushy (eg, when talking about the product she used, she said, “when you are due for more product, I can send you a link to this if you’d like to order!” She did. And I did and I love the product). I sat down prepared to hear there wasn’t much she could do for me, but instead, she explained what she saw, what she thought the other stylist was trying to do, what she would have differently, and why. I was amazed at how she basically described what the other stylist told me she was doing. Chan reassured me there was a much sexier, smarter style for my hair, one that would work as it grew back out- but it would require taking off a bit more length. I felt so safe and confident, I said, “let’s do it.” I am soooo happy I did. I continue to love it even as I’m doing it myself and it grows out. I thought I was going to have to suffer through the period of growing my hair back out, but instead, I’m feeling so good.

Chan is awesome! This is the best curly cut I've had in years, maybe ever. I've tried a bunch of other curly salons in the Portland area and always left feeling meh about my cut, and usually even more meh when I styled it myself. Chan listened to everything I wanted my hair to do/not do and then cut it in a way that meet all my requirements and looked awesome when they were done! That was a few weeks ago and it still looks great. I can style it myself and get it close to what they did. I keep getting compliments on my curls. It's a miracle! Thank you, Chan!

Had a great first appointment with Chan. New to my wavy/curly journey and left with some great info and styling and product recommendations. So many stylists turned hair-fluencers can be pushy and make that first appointment a bit uncomfortable, but Chan truly listened to what I was asking for and immediately got to work making it happen. The environment and conversation was comfortable and non-judgmental, even for a newbie. Thank you for helping to bring some of my bounce back and sharing your knowledge!

Can’t say enough wonderful things about Portland Curl Room. I’m really only starting to really understand my curls and I learned so much in this first visit. I booked a dry cut with a shampoo and style. Chan is wonderful, thoughtful and helped me understand how to apply the products she used on my hair so that I I can recreate her style every day! I’ve seriously never seen my hair so curly. Honestly can’t wait for my next cut with her!

I came to see Chan after a really terrible experience at another salon that left me mortified and scared to put my hair in somebody's hands again. I hadn't had my hair cut since. The nightmarish experience at the other salon occurred late 2022, so it's been nearly a year since I've recieved what I called "the revenge cut". This person was clearly having a bad day, literally grabbing hair by the handful and razoring it off without looking. The bad cut grew out even worse, so it was time for me to buck up and find somebody that could help me with the leftover scraggly mess. I told Chan about my experience and how I was apprehensive about getting my hair cut again. She was beyond sweet, asking gentle questions and listening with a compassionate ear, without judgment. The dreaded salon small talk didn't feel awkward but like I was visiting with a friend, which I really appreciated. My hair is an awkward length with layers that are way too short because of the "revenge cut", but Chan was able to blend it together so I don't look like I stuck my curls into a lawn mower. Chan happily answered questions about how to care for my curls and she explained what she was doing, and why, every step of the way. No weird salesy up-charges or telling me I simply can't live without a specific product line, no scolding me for not getting a trim in so long, not a single off putting interaction with this wonderful human. As soon as she started snipping away, my curls immediately started to bounce back to life before my eyes. I walked in extremely nervous, dreading the appointment to be perfectly honest. But Chan is such a wonderful, kind, trauma informed, skilled person, the anxiety melted away pretty much instantly. I walked away with another appointment booked and very happy curls.

I've always had trouble with my curly/wavy hair and mnowing which products to use, how to use them, best techniques, and all that you know, so when I scheduled my appointment I was looking to get a cut before school that'd help my confidence, I sent her some pictures of the cut and style I was looking for and I was highly satisfied, I feel so much better and she did an amazing job at explaining how to work with my hair instead of around it as well as getting the exact hair style I was looking for to try. Definitely going to be going here in the future for my cuts again and I definitely recommend Portland Curly Room!

If you’re looking for a great curly cut I highly recommend Chan. My entire experience was perfect. Leading up to my haircut the platform for booking appointments was very easy to navigate and made scheduling my haircut easy, text communications ahead of my appointment were clear and friendly, parking was very easy. Once I got there Chan was just lovely to chat with, did a really exceptional job cutting my hair, and used great products which were well explained without me ever feeling pressured to buy anything, and then my hair was really well styled. I loved my experience and will be going back for sure.

This is my second cut with Chan (I found her through a Portland reddit thread) and probably the best cut I've ever had for my curls.
