I’m an artist displaying my work here right now and I’m so happy to be a part of their gallery space. Amanda & Billy are great people with a heart for the art community. It must be amazing to be getting your hair done and stare at the beautiful art as well.

Robbie is great! My hair is a pain to cut and he nails it every time. He’s also given me some terrific dye jobs, love the magic he’s cooked up for my hair. I won’t go to anyone else.

Jay Jay is the man. Great listener (doesn't just do what he wants!), fast & efficient, and extremely talented. I have textured hair and he knows exactly how to make my curls look fresh.

I wasn’t planning to write a review, but after seeing a handful of reviews here about other folks' experiences with the policies at Rev Billy’s Chop Shop, I feel like I need to speak up too. A few months ago, my wife had a haircut scheduled and had to cancel the day of because our kid was rushed to the ER (he was fine; a fall that needed. a few stitches). When I called to let them know she'd be missing the appointment, they told me “that’s too bad” but they’d still be charging me the full cost of the haircut as a cancellation fee. I understand having policies, but this was a medical emergency. I literally can't think of any business in an industry I've ever frequented that had the gall to say "your kid is hurt? Oh too bad; pay up." I asked if they seriously didn’t make exceptions for situations like that, and they said they’d waive the fee if I brought in a doctor’s note. How demeaning is it to ask for someone to get a note from their doctor to cancel an appointment? Stupid as it was of them to ask for it, I did it because I couldn’t stomach the idea of paying them a cent after that. I brought the note, got our refund, and my wife has never gone back. Their complete lack of basic human decency in a crisis is shocking. Policies are one thing, but there’s no excuse for this level of rigidity and insensitivity. If you value businesses that treat people with respect and understanding, look elsewhere.

I’ve been to Rev Billy’s Chop Shop a dozen times and loved the stylists, but the management is a mess. They’ve canceled on me multiple tomes (three or four?), often within 24 hours, and I’ve always been understanding—stylists were sick, things happen, no biggie. But when I had to cancel with more than 24 hours’ notice because my kid was sick, they hit me with a cancellation fee. Turns out, they’d updated their policy to require 36 hours’ notice—fine, their prerogative—but they never communicated this change. Fees are no big deal. It’s part of running a business, and policies are policies. But given the fact that I had been cancelled on by them a few times, I felt it was reasonable to ask for some flexibility. Again fees are totally fair, but how management handles moments when a client asks about flexibility speaks volumes about you as a business. In this case, what it said was “bad management.” Instead of addressing the issue, they told me they wouldn’t work with me anymore. Apparently, offering feedback on their poorly executed policies crossed the line for them. I wasn’t rude, but I was direct—because honestly, if your cancellation policy is about respecting time, shouldn’t that respect go both ways? It’s disappointing because I love to support small businesses, but this level of client-unfriendly behavior and inability to take constructive criticism is hard to overlook. If you value fair and professional treatment, I’d suggest taking your business elsewhere.

I absolutely love Rev Billy's. Everyone here is welcoming and friendly. The customer service is top notch. I always go to Marsha and she does a perfect job on my hair. I am always getting compliments when I am out and about.

I had a few of my best cuts and pleasant social experiences with strangers at this shop when you all were posted up on Lincoln. Jennifer gave me such personalized advice with the true earnestness of a neighbor and passion for my well being, while the reverend made this entire chamber feel like a home away from home, fully relaxed. Thank you all.

I hate my hair cut, she went too short with the layering and I wanted to keep length. my ends looked like they were tapering off and super thinned out once she was done and we had to cut more off my length to fix that, and it still looks bad and my ends look thinner while my head looks thicker. I spent time growing out my hair to have to cut off more than I wanted . I’m obviously not going to make a big deal of it in the chair when the cut is already done so I didn’t say anything and my curtain bangs came out so chunky but if I could go back and not spend 130 for a below average cut, I would. I called and said they can fix it but don’t give refunds. I dont need my hair to be cut even more, I need it to grow back so their solution doesn’t do anything for me . I didn’t have the guts to tell the stylist to her face that I hate how it came out and I was hoping it would grow on me but it’s not. I also want to add that I called back the same day I made my appointment bc I wanted to switch to a cheaper hair stylist and the receptionist seemed annoyed about that and told me I would spend that anyway even if I switched and so I said ok. It made me uncomfortable though

Been living in Northcenter and this has been my spot for my haircut since 2017. Love this place. They give the best haircuts and I like how they take care of their of employees. It's all around a great vibe. Marian is the best. Any negative reviews you see are just people who clearly didn't read their policies and are better off at Great Clips :)

Exceptional cut, Jay Jay is the best👏

Horrible 48 hour cancellation policy with no leniency. They try to schedule you again immediately post haircut, and have no verbal or written notice of the 48 hour policy unless you go on the website, which I don't as I prefer scheduling through my barber. They left a voicemail 72 hours before the haircut, which I didn't listen to until ~30 hours before the haircut and called immediately, but no one was answering the phone. Eventually left a voicemail, and Angie called back (still more than 24 hours from appointment time) and said they are charging 50%. I will be disputing this on the credit card side as policy was not verbally stated upon my point of rescheduling. I will not be returning to a place that runs their business like Hilton Garden Inn.

Marisha did an amazing job with my haircut! It’s exactly what I was looking for. She’s super talented, easy to work with, and fun to chat with. I wasn’t sure if I was explaining what I wanted in the best way but she knew exactly what to do. You’re in great hands if you choose Marisha. Thank you! ☺️

Highly recommend the Chop Shop and the stylist, Jay Jay, in particular. Great ambiance, great music, tasty cocktail while getting a great cut from and conversation with Jay Jay. Definitely will go there again and see Jay Jay.

I’ve been seeing Jay Jay for about 10 years now and I don’t think I trust anyone else to cut my hair. I’ve followed him everywhere he’s been. If you’re looking for the last person you have to tell how you like your hair cut, Jay Jay is your guy

I've never been the type of person to pay for fancy haircuts. That all changed when I first went to Rev. Billy's a year ago. I will keep going back. Post-haircut, don’t be surprised if your significant other suddenly can’t keep their hands to themselves. After a visit to Billy’s, it’s entirely possible that your boss will add a few zeros to your paycheck. I hope you know cursive, because with a haircut from this place people will be begging for your autograph. If you’re looking to upgrade your hair game, this is it.

Best salon in Chicago, hands (and hair) down 🤘

I may be biased as Billy has been cutting and coloring my hair for over a decade. But I always walk away with the cut and color I want, I have yet to be dissatisfied. Highly recommended.

I was a returning customer of Marian. I called 24hrs in advance to reschedule my appointment for ASAP due to a unexpected work trip. I was told I needed to cancel my appointment for a $40 reschedule a new appointment by amanda.(First time rescheduling this close to the appointment) I said I think that is a little much if I’m going to come in next week and spend $80 on the haircut + tip. $150 total to reschedule for next week seems a bit much and I am a returning customer who buys lots of product from the salon beyond my haircuts. She did not care. I then told her I was going to think about what I want to do because I don’t know if I wanted to reschedule with her bad attitude towards me. I then hung up and within 10 seconds she charged my card. I called back asking why my card was charged and she told me I told her to cancel my appointment. I said it was unprofessional to charge my card without my consent and she told me I need to find a new place to get my haircut… over $40 when I would be paying the salon much more than that in my future appointments. I then tried to message my stylist on IG and was blocked my her, the salon and this horrible woman Amanda. Over a NEW cancellation policy. What a great way to do business and treat your returning customers. Hope Amanda reads this! PS Marian had nothing to do with this and gives good haircuts but Amanda is HORRIBLE.

The shop was very clean and everyone was really nice but I’m a bit disappointed with my hair. My hair went down to the middle of my chest and I asked for about a longer shag style and about 1/2 inch to an inch of my hair length off with some layering. Unfortunately about 3+ inches of my hair got cut off and it barely touches my shoulders now. The layering is also quite choppy. I didn’t ask them to fix the layers because at that point I didn’t want any more of my hair cut off. It’s definitely not a shag that I got. I don’t want to name the stylist because I don’t want to throw them under the bus. It was just disappointing because my hair responds really well to razor cutting but my stylist told me they don’t do razor cutting. I paid for the service that had “razor cutting” in its title but my stylist didn’t do that. I’m not really sure why they would be a choice for that type of haircut on their website if they don’t do that service. I understand why the appt is non refundable and for a redo it has to be the same stylist but unfortunately I don’t want to get another haircut by a stylist that didn’t really do any of the things I asked :(

This team leads with their values, and has created an authentic gem in the community. Aside from excellent services, great products, a beautifully inclusive space, and their fresh rotation of gallery pieces—this shop has wowed me with their authentic engagement, and accommodations. My situation was unique. I arrived as a walk-in, new to town, and struggling financially. I was connected to one of their apprentices, at a discounted rate. It has been an honor to watch my stylist, Jade, grow, and to see the care and integrity of their mentors as her skill set expands. I was able to save some coin, while I figured out my work situation, while staying put together. Thanks to that initial break, I’m now able to budget comfortably, and spend my coin with good conscience. These humanizing acts of reciprocity matter, more than ever. So, know, when you spend your energy and money here, it actually matters, and you are supporting people that demonstrate heart, and principal in their skills ❤️🔥✂️🙏🏼Thank you!

I make the trip from Rockford to Chicago every 4-6 weeks just to have Billy cut my hair. Why? Because I look good when I leave. Guy knows what he's doing. And what he's doing is making me look ****ing excellent! Seriously. I've kept this salon in my life longer than the wife that introduced me to it. Just one of many things I got in the divorce. Also, the TV and two cats.
