I had high expectations for my visit to Root, but unfortunately, my experience fell short. My appointment time was unexpectedly adjusted, and upon arrival, I was left to navigate the locker room alone. The locker area lacked towels and properly fitting sandals, and several lockers were malfunctioning, causing unnecessary frustration. The sauna’s speaker was blown out, making it anything but relaxing. My massage, which cost nearly $200, did not meet my expectations, even after providing feedback on pressure. The most concerning part was when my therapist sneezed and admitted to avoiding washing her hands, which felt unsanitary and unprofessional. I had hoped to make Root my go-to spa, but after this experience, I am hesitant to return. I truly hope management takes this feedback into account to enhance the guest experience. Further, I was sent an email from Root asking for feedback on my visit, and I sent them a response about my experience 13 days ago and am feeling disappointed that no one followed up with me or even acknowledged receipt of the email. Do better, Root!

I have been repeatedly annoyed and disappointed by my interactions here. I first came last summer and signed up for the membership. First appt was great. I then came 3 different times for new appointments only to be told I wasn’t on the schedule and they wouldn’t be able to fit me in. They did comp a service for the inconveniences but I also had to sit down and detail out what confirmations, phone calls, and other actions I took in the whole debacle. For some reason I kept coming back (the services for acupuncture and naturopathic medicine are actually good) but I’ve had another bad situation now with this too and will not be returning. My insurance told me I was approved for the services, but Root won’t confirm with insurance for you before they keep booking and then they waited until I’d had multiple sessions to tell me insurance did not go through. They contacted me in August asking about payment for the services insurance didn’t cover. I apparently had credits (presumably from my cancelled membership) so I confirmed for them to use my credits and then charge me for the balance, all while asking for an invoice and never receiving. Last communication (in August) came from the billing manager saying they would use my credits and then charge me for the remainder. Then last week(!), months later, I get an email saying they reviewed end of year books and they realized they had not charged me & told me a figure $100 higher than the one quoted in August when I have not returned or received anymore services. I called and left a message to have someone call me because I wanted to understand why I was not charged back in August and why the amount was now higher. I got a promotional text in response about scheduling appointments. I texted back I wanted billing to call. Today I got a charge and receipt emailed for a totally different figure and the receipt had a note that “client agreed” which I DID NOT. Do not give this place your business. Many of their practitioners operate elsewhere and they cannot manage their operations or your money well at all. What a shitshow.

We visited the cafe, not the massage section. The coffee was tasteful and delicious !!! My fiance and I had the Tikka massala and it was SOO yummy! Definitely would visit the cafe again.

First visit was great, felt some relief for a couple days after feeling pretty rough. Came a second time a couple months later and had a full body 1 hour massage. She focused a LOT on my neck, which wasn't one of the things I told them was bothering me on there pre check in form, not sure if they even looked (mid and upper back was my issue). The very next day I felt like my neck muscles were pulled and up upper and mid back felt stabbing and tingling. I didn't think much of it until 2 weeks later it became unbearableband the pain was spreading with tingingling in my hand so I went to my doctor and found i had a mild herniated disc in my neck. I am now on steroids and pain medication from this massage. Be wary.

Had a great experience at Root Whole Body when I came in for a 60 minute massage. I appreciate how efficient and of quality the experience is. When you come in you first check in at the counter. You're then guided to the locker room, which includes a guided tour of the available benefits and services. Once in the locker room you change into your robe and slippers and then go into a very quiet and relaxing tea room with tea and water. The massage therapist will come get you and take you to the room. What i liked: calm ambiance, heated massage beds, personable employees Things I wish were different: The massage rooms are located near hallways that get traffic, so at times you can hear the conversations of passerby's which can be distracting. Additionally the end was pretty abrupt, totally understand there are time limits but it was a bit of a startle to a very meditative experience. All in all I'd come back

I’ve been a member at Root off and on over the course of almost 6 years now. The facility is really nice, and the staff is consistently friendly, welcoming and kind. This is a big differentiator in Portland (IYKYK). Their membership is the most cost effective one I’ve seen, as the whole monthly amount goes to your treatments, and not a membership fee. Plus, you get a significant discount on the treatments, so it goes even further. I’ve had really great massages here, love the baths, and I’m obsessed with the infrared sauna. The tea room is really pretty, and overall everything is well-maintained. My only feedback is the locker room.I’m sure it’s incredibly hard to keep this from happening over several years with the number of wet towels, showers, being taken, etc., but the locker room does smell pretty distinctly of mildew. The towels, robes, and everything else always smell, fresh and clean, But I do notice the issue every time. They’ve also really downgraded the shower products (I’d be willing to pay a couple extra dollars per month for some nicer product products) Overall, this is my favorite wellness center, And having Blossoming Lotus for good food in the lobby is fantastic as well. Really great experience every time I stop by. I get the organic facial on a monthly basis, so the membership was a no brainer. I stop by the tea room and community sauna 1-2x/week (another membership perk) after more stressful work days.

Massage was absolutely wonderful. Be very careful using gift certificates - seems management can’t keep track (or be bothered to come to the front desk or call/email back) and staff will threaten to charge your card at end of business day if gift certificates “aren’t in the system” or “seems like they have been used” then make you wait around anxiously all day until close of business to finally inform you “your massage has been comp-d because of maybe an error in the system” like it’s some sort of favor to me. I did my due diligence and called before my appointment to give the gift card # over the phone and was told I was good to go! For a place of restfulness and restorative therapy, they sure muck-up an incredibly straightforward process and suck the calm out of what was meant to be a relaxing massage therapy and birthday. Will not be visiting again…even if it’s free.

I bought a massage service as a gift for my wife, the receipt said the massage would last 90 minutes. The massage today was of poor quality and took only 60 minutes.

RWB is a fantastic wellness center and spa. I can't express enough how grateful I am to have found Holly their aesthetician. She gives the BEST facials I've ever had! I highly recommend booking with her. I PROMISE you will not be disappointed.

I’ve been to root before and enjoyed my experience but when I booked my most recent massage I didn’t receive the full amount of time and had to wait for about 10 minutes for reception to greet and help me. Disappointing for the amount spent and will not be returning. I tried reaching out to share feedback but never received a response.

Would not recommend their naturopath services. Be aware and double/triple check any services the naturopaths offer because it may not be covered by insurance and they will not inform you of this. I received a $1600 lab bill after Sierra (one of their naturopaths) said it would be covered by insurance with "certain diagnostic codes" and sent me to Quest. Assuming since both Sierra and Root have my insurance information, I trusted they would send me to an in-network lab, but I was wrong. While I understand we sign "financial waivers", it should be taken upon both the provider and Root to advocate for patients in sending them to other in-network services and if they don't, to inform the patient of this.

I am visiting Portland and have had 2 services at Root. My practitioner, Kathleen, has been amazing! She helped me to recover from some lower back pain and provided amazing service. 5 stars. As I was checking out, some of the staff passed me on the hall and were startled. They both laughed and quickly ran into a room. They even joked about being afraid of me. As a black male, the thought that someone is afraid of me isn't new, but a bit disheartening after spending so much money and time in this establishment. I hope that those two staff members feel bad, but honestly, I don't care. I'm sure they believe they are not racists, but I know. I won't be coming back for that reason alone. 1 star Advice: Hire some diverse staff or send your staff into diversity training. Or, maybe things are working as designed.

Katherine Walker is great! BUT root has a whole health model which means if you want to see one of their naturopaths, you have to do it in this spa type environment. Not necessarily bad, but they will convince you to sign up for their membership for a discount and when you do, will fail to cancel it. I was charged once last November and again in May (an accident????) after I cancelled. I recommend their services but I do not recommend keeping a card on file with them if you can avoid. Both times I asked for a refund on the membership, they processed it real quick.

Alex did an amazing job with my massage. Constantly communicating what he was doing and always checking in to ensure the pressure was adequate. Really happy with the overall vibe of the experience and space. Unfortunately do not live in the portland area, but will absolutely be returning to Root when visiting the portland area again!

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing "The Works" at Root Whole Body, and I am beyond impressed with the results. After the 90-minute session, I couldn't believe how much younger and more radiant my face looked. My skin was glowing, and I felt rejuvenated. Heather, the esthetician, was exceptional! She was attentive, skilled, and made the entire experience incredibly relaxing. I highly recommend this treatment for anyone looking to enhance their skin's appearance and enjoy some well-deserved pampering. Thank you, Heather, for making my face look and feel fantastic!

The location is beautiful and well laid out. My appointment and practioner was rescheduled and changed multiple times which was frustrating. The massage therapist was kind, but slow to start the massage and pressure was way too light to be therapeutic for the amount of muscle tension I am having. Tea was great and cafeteria had good juices. Won't go back though. Not a solid value for the cost.

Overpriced for what it is. Went for a massage, and there was an older lady taking a video for her Instagram in the tea waiting room, disregarding the multiple “no cell phone use” signs. Massage therapist advertises deep tissue specialty, but when I got there and requested such, she was very hesitant, and said, “uh…I’ll try my best…” Front desk worker told me to just “go back to the waiting room,” but figured out after a few moments from my expression that it was my first (and subsequently last) time, and gave me a cursory tour. I was left to explore the sauna by myself after the appointment. That would have been fine, but there were no usage instructions for the sauna in terms of etiquette - I had to ask the front desk on my way out, so was unfortunately not able to take advantage of the service. Additionally, Root Whole Body sent me a marketing email after the appointment claiming a member of their customer service team would be in touch to discuss the experience. No such attempt to contact me was made, so instead, they get feedback on here.

This review is for Holly an amazing aesthetician!!! I have know Holly for years and has help heal and transform my skin. Her knowledge and skill are amazing she is the BEST! She’s recently moved from San Diego and now here and I’m so excited to have her near me in PDX now and no longer have to make the commute to be pampered by her. She is so calming and wonderful and she’s worth indulging and pampering yourself with her. You won’t regret it. She’s intuitive in her treatment and your skin and soul will be left glowing.

I can't say enough good things about my experiences with Dr. Walker so far. Something about the way she listens and then responds - it immediately puts me in a calm state and makes me feel heard. She gives realistic, achievable options to target my concerns. Her approach very much feels like we are a team that makes decisions together. I also like how she pulls in information from my other healthcare providers as a whole-patient approach.

Terrible attention to detail. We were cancelled on last minute for on a birthday after booking massages for my wife and I 3 weeks in advance. I provided them with all of our contact information, my phone number and email, her phone number and email. Two days before the massage I got an email reminding me of the appointment - NO MENTION OF CANCELLATION. I had already filled out my waiver form, but my wife never received hers. I decided to call the spa the day before our appointments to ask them if they could send over the waiver form to my wife to fill out before the appointment. Again, I had already provided them with her email. When I called, they said they had been trying to reach me, which I found odd since I am in sales an constantly checking my phone for missed calls, voicemails, etc.. I check my email just as often and the only emails I have from ROOT is the one asking to fill out the waiver form and the one CONFIRMING my appointment. It turns out they had my phone number written down incorrectly and supposedly had tried to reach out via a call and text, but had they just sent an email this could have easily been resolved. I was told that the massage therapist doing one of our massages was not going to be able to make it and they had no one to cover... a day before my wife's birthday. Not enough time to book something somewhere else. I'm in sales myself and I would have made sure to try all forms of contact (phone and email) if something effecting my clients came up. Especially if I could see that my client received the waiver form that was emailed and filled it out. Perhaps that would have been the better point of contact rather than the incorrect phone number. Again, lack of detail. They either never sent my wife her waiver form or they wrote her email down incorrectly, they didn't write my phone number down correctly, then they only tried reaching out by phone, not email, and they had someone call out days in advance (I'm assuming this because they said they had been trying to reach me multiple times by phone), but they weren't able to get someone to cover with multiple days notice? Sometimes you loose a customer before you get one. We won't be referring people to Root.

Alex gave me an incredible massage. He checked in frequently and made sure I was comfortable throughout the massage. He also took the time to explain everything he was planning to do, which was the first time a massage therapist has done that for me. The facilities were also great. Highly recommend!

Comfortable, hygienic, calming space. Friendly, professional and accommodating staff. There was high staff turnover. It made it difficult to establish consistent treatment. Hopefully, leadership has addressed this issue and adequately values its employees. Needs more diversity on the staff!

I treated myself to the radiant skin half day special for my 50th birthday. It was marvelous! I adored Nisha and will definitely go back for more facials from her. I've had lots of massages in my life, but Leigh used new techniques with me and my body feels great. And finally, getting lunch at Blossoming Lotus afterwards- perfect.

Really enjoyed the CBD Soak here! I booked the soak and was able to jump in the sauna for a bit and relax in the tea room. All in all I spent about 90 minutes doing the three. The soaking room was clean and the salts provided were soothing. The team room was peaceful and comfortable. Locker rooms were secure and had a shower + shampoo, conditioner and body wash available. A few things I wish about the place: 1. in the hydro room they offer a tub pillow or back rest. The tub isn’t slanted or meant to lay in so it was kind of awkward 2. They offered longer soaks, I would pay $100 for an hour if they have that option! 3. You could dim the lights and then down the music in the hydro room. There was a dim light feature but it wasn’t dim enough.

Upon my first and only visit, I think Dr. Katherine Walker is a good provider. My low review is due to the fact that I have to wait 4+ months for my second follow up, which includes misplanning my appointment as well as misplacing my labs. This clinic should examine ways to improve the management and the scheduling experience, especially so that labs are still relevant during the follow up period. The clinic needs to clean up its act and be more professional.
