Had never been to the shop and just went in to buy product. Was immediately treated like a long time client with an incredible amount of hospitality by the owner herself, went above and beyond. Will definitely be back.

I am growing my short hair-cut out, and it is getting awkward. Fear not! Guadelupe keeps the back & sides short while letting the top grow in the most natural way. My therapist over zoom told me today that my hair looks great — is it a coincidence I went to Roots Hair Salon two days ago? As the kids say, I think not. Thanks Lupe and everyone at Roots!

I had an exceptional experience with the owner as my stylist and it’s definitely a must for curly hair, especially when you’re in dire need of a cut or need help reversing damage. I want to also mention that they have a special station for hijab wearing sisters so that it comes up as a keyword search because it was super hard for me to find hijab friendly salons and I came across Roots after countless phone calls. The hijab station covers from wash to finish, making it easier to maintain healthy hair because salons/ professional hair treatments do make a huge difference. Bonus perk, it’s also an Aveda salon!

Danji was great! I needed a refresh on my long hair and he knew exactly what to do. Overall the salon was very clean and well run. They also have a new customer deal if you haven’t been, worth a try!

Love having Kariman cut my hair. She does a lovely job with my long, natural hair. She's also just a good soul and fun to talk to. Find her pricing very reasonable as well.

The deva cut experience missed the mark. I came in with a wash n go, asked for a deva cut trim and was offered to have my hair cut while "lengthened". I was never told nor would've guessed that it meant washing, drying, and cutting after completely combing out my curls with no product on it, especially in the context of asking specifically for a deva cut. After expressing my surprise at having a deva cut without my natural curls intact, product was combed in, but the cut was done wet and not sectioned out curl by curl. Originally, I asked for a trim to get rid of the bad ends more than a full cut or shape with growing it out as the priority, but the focus ended up being more on shaping, even though it was wet. Now that it's dry and redone in my normal wash n go, there's still bad ends, and the shape is uneven in places where it hadn't been before. If there had been more clarity around Ashanti's deva cut services beforehand, I would have opted for a different salon.

The owner opened up the store for me on a Sunday and personally did my cut and color herself. We chatted about cooking and family and she slayed my color. I went from a yellowing, grown out bleach blonde with damage, to a warm light brown that will allow me to grown my hair out. She really took her time highlighting my roots before applying the toner so it would blend nicely with my natural color. And spent lots of time perfecting the cut. On top of the amazing service, she gave me a fantastic price, and even a discount on some Aveda shampoo and conditioner which has already made my hair feel so much healthier. I havent been to the same salon twice since ive moved to chicago, but after going to Roots, I won't go anywhere else from now on.

I have been going to Roots for the last 5 years. This is the first place I've gone where stylists really listen! I have never had such consistent great service! The salon is clean and everyone is very professional. I usually see Kariman, but I've worked with other stylists as well. Kariman is great about explaining options and taking the time to understand your vision!

I went to Roots Hair Salon Yesterday and had a wonderful haircut with Theresa. She was attentive and asked questions regarding my desired hair style. This was the only hair salon I have been to in Chicago where I did not feel like the stylist rushed my haircut. I noticed other stylists being very attentive with their clients as well and not rushing their services, which is a rarity.

Ms. Ashanti takes care of my daughter's hair. She is pleasent, professional and does a good job creating the styles my daughter wants. The shop isn't crowded with people waiting and it has always been a nice calm atmosphere.

This was my first time at the shop and let me say they do great work! The shop itself is beautiful and has a relax vibe. Ms.Kariman did a fanastic job shaving and coloring my hair and Ms.Thearsea (sorry if I spelled that wrong😅) did an excellent job styling my hair. The price was very reasonable and fair and would highly recommend this shop. Thank you so much again!!

This was my first time at this place and I was very much impressed. They were very professional, super friendly and they make you feel super comfortable! michaela is amazing at what she does, she was so sweet and so gentle when working with your hair wash and combing, great hair cut over all. Definitely coming back here for my next cut :)

Exceptional experience having my hair braided by Nura, from scheduling to finished product. I couldn't be happier! All of the staff I spoke with were polite and informative. They responded to my website request promotly and Nura personally answered my emails with questions and scheduling details. The salon is clean and beautiful. I will definitely be back.
