Everytime I walk out of Salon gil, I fill satisfied and happy. They are professional & knowledgeable plus the environment is calm with a good movie always playing. Travis always hooks my hair up but watching the other stylist they are all very talented I've just gotten very comfortable with him. So happy I took some time for myself today and got my self care in, definitely check them out for your hair needs.

I love my service with Travis he is literally the best this not about TRAVIS AT ALL !!!! This is due to me having an appointment for 12/28/2024. I've been trying to reschedule so I won't lose my deposit left multiple voicemails sent multiple messages on website with no response. With the date getting closer looking like imma lose my deposit not because I didn't follow the rules but due to no one responding to my calls , voicemails and messages sent. I really love this place and really don't wanna find a new salon due to Travis works speak wonders. Hopefully someone is able to reach out soon. Total understanding about it being the holidays but dates are available around the holidays so it should be someone who can help?

I Always have the best experience with Janaya. She always has me very relaxed. My retwists always come out looking very neat and it lasts for weeks. The shop is a very good vibe as well.

Had an AHMAZINGGG silk press done by Travis. Besides his amazing energy, he was also very patient and gentle with my 4C hair. Great conversation and extremely knowledgeable. I look forward my next visit!

I didn’t plan on writing a review but my experience was so low quality that I feel like I’d be doing a disservice to both the stylist, and other paying customers who may end up with a similar experience due to not sharing my feedback. I will start with the positives, I booked a curly cut with Dominique (the owner I believe) and I had various questions which she answered throughout the week leading up to my appointment. During the appointment she was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and gave me tips that I will apply moving forward. That said, kindness is the bare minimum for a service you are paying for, and it does not make up for a CLEAR gap in professionalism. PLEASE take your business more serious. Now to get into why this is 1 star review. Firstly, we arrived at 12:45 pm for a 1-pm appointment, our cab dropped us off in front of what looks like a bodega and we spent 5 minutes looking for the salon. There is absolutely no signage that tells you that the salon is next to the bodega, I had to call Dominique and she let me know that to get in you have to go through this unmarked grey door—not a major inconvenience, but not having some kind of signage or atleast a note when booking on your website to let folks know that they should use this door would alleviate unnecessary confusion. Nevertheless, once we walked into the room it fell silent and no one greeted us or said anything until we tried to find a place to sit. There were already about 4 people who were getting worked on and once we walked in the room it fell quiet and everyone including the two stylist looked at us almost like we interrupted a private conversation, mind you, we were here at our scheduled time for a SCHEDULED appointment so I’m unsure why the general vibe was mildly stand-off-ish. At this point it’s 12:50pm for a 1pm appointment. Once we shuffled to the seating area I realized that the “salon” smelled of food and burned hair (should have been a sign for the lack of professionalism to come). We let the stylist know we were here for a 1pm appointment and due to being overbooked they kind of waived us off and told us to sit and wait. 1:15 rolls around and we have yet to even be spoken to by either of the stylist other than being told where to sit and wait, at 1:20 I asked Dominique what was going on given that at this point we’ve been waiting half an hour and no one has so much as even spoken to us to let us know where we are in the queue. I should add that although they are working on about 4 people, Dominique was sitting, eating and gossiping with another customer for about 10 min. Once I asked what was going on we were promptly seen, me by Dominique and my friend by Travis. I will briefly touch on her experience as it’s not my story to tell, but I will mention what I personally witnessed. Travis was incredibly unprofessional, he was sagging his pants showing his underwear and wearing slides—I understand this is a hair salon so no one is expecting you to be in a suit, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to at the very least look like you’re at work and not at a party. Back to me and Dominique, I told her several times I wear my hair in finger coils. I like my hair VERY defined, and I suggested that we cut it in the style that I most wear it. After finger coiling my hair she put me under the dryer and her and Travis left me and my friend alone in their shop as they said they’ll “be right back” they didn’t return for atleast 20 minutes and when they did I could smell something that was reminiscent of marijuana on Dominique’s breathe. I’m not saying any one was doing anything illicit at work—but what I am saying is there was a very clear lack of professionalism that needs to seriously be addressed. These people are clearly overbooked and I left here incredibly frustrated and feeling like they played in my head because the booking took nearly 4 hours and I truly believe I could have achieved the same result if not better, had I done it myself. For 4 hrs of work it was giving 1 hr quality at BEST.

Went to this salon and loved it, the service was great, nice atmosphere, the stylist were very informative on whatever they were doing to peoples hair. My stylist Naya is so Dope, she did Hunters hair first, and now I’m giving recommendations to everyone. I loved his hair so much. I’ll be there to get mine done soon❣️🙌🏾

I constantly go in for janaya for my retwists and styles and even loc re attachments and she never fails to leave me walking out the door with a smell and the feeling of brand new, i’ve never gone in and regretted a second! book now literally amazing service

I had an appointment with Janaya for a retwist. For this to have been my first appointment with her- I felt very comfortable. Janaya is very knowledgeable, and talented at her craft. I appreciated the patience she took in handling my hair. I will for sure book 📚 again.

Salon Gill come thru!!!! 🙌🏽 Amazing silk press. I had a great experience with this salon from start to end. Ive avoided hair salons and stylists for a couple of years now due to bad experiences. I decided to give salon Gill a try because of: 1) great and consistent positive reviews 2) easy booking through the site with clear instructions What will make me a repeated customer: 1) salon was clean and comfortable 2) Ms. Gill knows her craft, and treated me and my hair with care. She asked pertinent questions such as the health of my scalp, any allergies, etc. And throughout the process gave me tips on how to improve my hair, or pointing out characteristics of my hair that I wasn't even fully aware of (I have dense hair towards the bottom). 3) gave me a great trim 4) the process went at a comfortable pace 5) the final result!! 6) overall price Highly recommend this salon, I will be back!

So I was searching all over for someone to do my husband locs and had begun to get overwhelmed until finally I came across Janaya page online and I’m happy I did she was so sweet ,welcoming and professional ..the area of the shop is nice and easy to locate I recommend this salon and hair stylist to anyone they also offer many different services 10/10 she did an amazing job can’t wait to book her again

Visited this salon for the first time and had a great experience. Naya was very gentle with my 4c hair and gave me a beautiful curly fro. I would definitely recommend this salon if you have natural hair.

Wooden chairs for drying hair, small space, my coat was randomly thrown on a table. Stylist coughing repeatedly without a mask. Average styling at best. Found a much better, real salon that actually operates like a salon and gives af about customer service.

Dominique was very knowledgeable about hair and explained each step as she treated my hair with the avlon texture release system. I needed a trim and Dominique explained exactly why and how I can maintain length in the future. I'm a socially awkward person, but I felt very comfortable at the salon. I also left extremely happy with my hair and plan on returning!

I found Dominique in July 2022. I have been searching for a natural stylist who is compassionate and passionate about natural type 4 hair. And was reasonably priced. I have some hair issues and really wanted and needed a stylist who was gentle with my hair but was good with natural hairstyles. Dominque delivered. She’s amazing. I will not be looking for any other stylist. I highly recommend. I’ve been to her three times now.

I got my sew in done by Travis, and it was the most natural looking sew in I’ve ever gotten! He listened to all of the issues I have with my hair type, and make sure to structure the sew in a way that accommodated all of my concerns. He also made sure to use the right products for my hair texture & was careful with my natural hair. I will not be going anywhere else to get my hair done. Would highly recommend anyone who wants natural looking hair & and great service to come to Salon Gill!

I love the owner, she provided me great feedback on my hair that ultimately helped my hair to grow and retain length. However some of her other stylists don’t know how to manage kinkier, coarser textures. Please save yourself the hair breakage and tension headache and consult with her.

I was referred to Travis over a year ago by a relative. He is always on time, very professional, friendly and talented. He has restored my curls, and given me the best silk press experience. one day i was on instagram searching for someone who specializes in natural hair , thats when i came across Travis over a year ago and may i say this was the best decision i ever made to sit in his chair . my hair was broken , damaged , and i had no direction for what i wanted to do and travis saved my life !!! He is always on time, very professional, and talented.
