Patricia was my stylist and she was absolutely phenomenal!! I booked for a rehab silk press which included scalp analysis, bonding treatment, deep conditioning and a steam treatment. Patricia was very professional, and relatable through out the entire appointment. After the appointment, my hair is soft, shiny, with voluminous curls. I'm glad I came here. If you decide to come to Salon XO, I promise you will not regret it!

Amazing experience every time. I had a bad fit with my last natural hair appointment at a different stylist so when I first came to Ms. Monica I was a little hesitant…but she is so kind and always has my hair feeling so soft and healthy. Only salon in Pittsburgh I go to!

I have had my loose natural hair and locs done by Monica! With each experience I am always so happy to have chosen to come to her salon. When I was a loose natural I got a curly cut and wash and go from her and I tell people all the time it was the best wash and best WASH AND GO I’ve ever had to this day. She always handles my hair with tenderness, skill, and knowledge. Now that I have locs the experience still carries over with each service!

I booked a Healthy Restart with Silk press, and I was so disappointed with the overall service. My appointment was at 3:30, but it started around 15 minutes late. I know delays can happen, so I didn't think it was a huge deal, but I wish my appointment had started on time. Patricia began by detangling my hair before getting to the bowl. She very lightly sprayed my hair with what felt like water and began detangling with a wide tooth comb. Typically when I detangle my hair or other stylist detangle my hair, its when it's wet and has product. While I'm not tenderheaded, I felt like she was being fairly rough on my hair. When we got to the bowl she said she was going to shampoo me. I felt like the shampoo was not done particularly well. While the ends of my hair felt almost squeaky clean to the point of feeling stripped, my scalp wasn't scrubbed well. The steam treatment provided felt like nothing. I didn't feel any warmth or steam. It was advertised as a peppermint steam treatment. I didn't feel any of the tingling you would normally feel with a product that has peppermint oil. This was disappointing after paying extra. The silk press was not particularly silky. Friends and family thought I had gotten a blowout. Many people commented that it looked like I had just washed and blow dried my hair myself. Multiple asked if she used a hot comb or if my hair was done by a White stylist. Finally, the most disappointing part of the service was the trim. I will acknowledge that I absolutely had dead ends that needed to go. I felt the was a lack of communication around how much she was going to trim. I walked out of that salon with my hair several inches shorter. My hair is usually mid back length when straightened. Now it no longer touches my bra strap. The trim, or should I say cut, is choppy and uneven. There's a random piece that's about an inch longer than the rest. I made a point to put my phone & ipad away, uncross my legs, and hold my head up straight to ensure that I didn't walk out with uneven hair. Those efforts were in vain. I believe in paying for good service, but the price was simply not a reflection of the quality of service I recieved. Now in addition to paying $180 for poor quality services and losing several inches of hair, I also have to pay someone else to make the cut look even and intentional.

The absolute best! Services I’ve had done include silk press, curly cut, natural hair styling (wash and go - and I can never ever replicate how Monica gets my curls to just glow and twirl just so), faux locs. They’re the best. My appointments start on time and there is easy communication. Atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, good music every time. I always leave feeling and looking great😊

This was my first experience at a hair salon and Monica really made it something to remember! Not only was the service professional, but she really makes you feel like a person and not just a customer. Every treatment she provided was soothing and relaxing. She has a customer in me as long as I live in Pittsburgh.

Don't walk, run!! I wear my hair in a wash-n-go in it's curly and natural state. I've never had a person touch my hair and know what they were doing let alone do it so well!! I had stopped even going to salons because of the disappointment, but now will go every 8-12 weeks minimum. Monica is fabulous and has a customer for life. The atmosphere and Monica's disposition is just as pleasant as the hair experience🤎.

I’m transitioning from chemically processed (after many many years) to natural hair and Monica is a Godsend. When I first started my appointments, my hair was in an unhealthy state because previously I didn’t have access to a professional who did natural hair and DIY/YT way was not working for me. Three months later, I can see a difference in my hair health. I can’t wait to see how healthy my hair will be in a year under Monica’s care.

Monica the energy you put out is the energy you receive. The first time I came I was quite satisfied with the customer service and the outcome of the hairstyle. I tipped you because I was very satisfied. Other appointments you were annoyed or seemed grumpy and had an attitude while doing my hair. I overlooked this because I thought maybe you’re just tired from having back to back appointments. I tried booking earlier now to avoid this and ur attitude was the same. You act like I’m begging and not a paying customer. You complain about not being tipped as if it’s mandatory or you know my pocket. Such entitlement. If you don’t like the hair I bring to use just say so but you chose to be extra rude today and you expect me to reward your poor service ? Check your attitude, I was never rude to you. N since I’m banned kindly cancel my future appointments and refund me.

Recently went here and got a healthy restart + Silk Press by Mrs. Monica Smith. It was one of the best silk press I’ve gotten! The atmosphere is so positive, Mrs. Monica is very talented, nice, and really helps you understand your hair. I would 10/10 recommend to anyone ❤️

My girlfriend was so excited about this place which is an hour away from us. She wanted her natural curls to be shaped and get them colored. She found this place and sent me the info for a second opinion. I was excited for her because she has been talking about this process for years and finally found a place she thought would do the job. She procrastinated and I had booked the zoom consult last wee for her because he birthday is coming up in a week and wanted to get it done before then. She is a Social worker so her schedule is vigorous during the day. The consult was book then change twice in 15 min intervals where she could not attend due to her own appts. Then she schedule another today and then the stylist did a no show. Its not about the money because it not a lot I'm sure to what i would have paid for her hair getting done. Hopefully they process my refund correctly. I see others have had great experiences. I just wanted to share our experience. Thank you!

Pretty nice Salon, Monica is the greatest. She hooks my hair up and I leave the Salon feeling like a million bucks.
