This was my first time visiting [salon]718 Prospect Heights. The last time I had a haircut was a year ago, and my hair had grown all the way down past my hips, so I was beyond ready for a trim. I scheduled an appointment for 2:30p on a Sunday. They were running a little bit late but it was no problemo, as they kindly offered me water/tea as I waited and continued to check in so I didn't feel forgotten. I noticed lots of customers, especially families / parents dropping off their kids for a quick cut. You can tell this salon knows their community and is very well loved, based on that alone! Once in the chair, Sydney asked me questions about my current haircare routine and details around the services I wanted done, making sure I was comfortable with the length she was about to trim off. She then washed and glazed (black) my hair. I had originally booked an additional Scalp Treatment, but she highly recommended I switch to the Hydration one instead, as the gloss treatment might be too much on the head w/the added Scalp treatment. She gave me the best shampoo/conditioning scalp massage of my life. I would pay her just to wash my hair once a week, it's that serious. Respectfully, is this how you wash every customer's hair, Sydney? Because that Sunday - your hands were like magic. I'm not kidding - AI could never replace you. Anyway, back to the hair lol. After glossing, I sat under the hot lamp for about 15 min, got the gloss rinsed out, then she got started on my haircut. I had incredibly thick hair that was down to my waist, so I asked if she could cut off enough so that my hair fell more mid-back w/face framing layers. She was so meticulous (but fast!) and efficient. IDK anything about cutting hair but her technique looked real noice and she was focused but always checking if I was okay with the length as we went! I felt so much "lighter" and was so happy with the final result. She then gave me the best blowout of my life. I've never felt so confident walking to the dispensary afterwards. TLDR; I highly recommend this salon, it truly deserves all the flowers, all the stars. From start to finish, Sydney and her team made this an amazing experience, and I will certainly continue to visit this chain again and reco it to anyone in the BK area!! Thank you Sydney!

I love this place. Great atmosphere. And Giulia is a dream! She can follow your vision for a cut or help you figure it out, and she always does a super elegant job that feels just right.

Update: After reaching out to them directly, Gloria personally assisted me with the haircut. Now, the hair is not uneven and I have received many compliments. Thank you, Gloria! ----------- The worst cut I’ve gotten in years and this was my first visit to this Salon. Couldn’t tell right after the cut when she blew it out but can tell the contrast in the “layering” once hair is washed out. I wasn’t asking for a complicated cut… I asked for shoulder length cut with a little layer and a face frame. She even asked what length I want the face frame to be, which is around the chin (the shortest hair). However, the layer is shorter than my face frame so top half looks like a mushroom when my hair dries. I’ve been using a clip for the top ever since I got this haircut. Also, came in with hair parted to the right and left with hair parted in the middle. Thought I would just go for a new look but the hair cut is just horrible, regardless of the parting. First off this salon is so pretty and very clean. All the staff is very kind and professional. I came to see Aida for the first time over a month ago. I walked in in tears because Ive been to about 15 salons in the last year trying to get the perfect pixie cut and color but everywhere I went they cut and colored my hair terribly. Well let me tell you Aida understood the assignment and beyond delivered. I walked out looking and feeling more confident than I ever felt in my life. Today was my second time going back and again walked out looking and feeling like a million dollars lol. She is very talented in color and cutting hair and even better for me she specializes in pixie cuts. Exactly what I’ve been looking for!! She’s also such a sweetheart. She doesn’t only cut short hair but long hair also and the color never looked better. I’m so glad I found her. I will never let anyone elese touch my hair ever again. Aida defiantly has a lifetime customer with me. Thank you so much. I’ve never been happier. If anyone is looking for a stylist that is amazing in color and cut Aida is the girl you definitely wanna go see!! Thank you so much Aida you’re the best!! My straight baby fine hair resists products and styling. Luckily, Jenny G also has my hair type and intuitively understands its possibilities and limitations. As I described the look I was going for she listened attentively, made great suggestions, then executed a fab cut that frames my face and fits my lifestyle as a mom of a young child. I came to this salon back in October 2023 for highlights and styling. They advertise themselves as being inclusive of all hair types and textures, but as someone with 4B-4C hair, my experience really didn't reflect that. The highlight service with Ari went well. However, the styling portion of my appointment, which was pre-booked, was handled differently than expected. Without explanation, I was transferred to another stylist who appeared unfamiliar with my hair texture. They applied a strengthening treatment for an additional $45 that left my hair feeling dry. When I inquired about the styling that I had booked after the poor result from the second stylist, I was passed to a third stylist. Throughout this process, there was minimal communication about these changes. The payment situation was a mess too. After paying about $500 (with tip), they told me the payment didn't go through and asked me to pay again. I found out later they were having issues with their payment system and this had happened before - but nobody told me that at the time. Being non-confrontational, I agreed to the second charge, but ended up leaving the salon with a double charge of over $1000 on my card. While they did eventually fix the payment issue, I walked out with no clear idea of when I'd get my money back, and poorly styled hair. While the highlight service itself was okay, the lack of communication, stylist swaps, and payment problems made this a really disappointing experience.

I have had a pixie cut for a couple of years…although I love my hair short I was getting bored of the same old look. I went to see Jonathan for color (to cover up my stubborn grays)and a trim. We decided to add highlights to my crown, clean up the back and a slight trim all around and WOW…what a difference! I love my hair again! Thanks Jonathan!!!

Kateryna was lovely. Her calm personae, her efficiency, i told her i wanted a shorter haircut and she checked with me a couple times through out to make sure I was ok with it. I have curly hair so a good hairstylist will know that the hair will curl up even shorter so threy have to be careful with the cut. And indeed, I love it! It is exactly what I wanted, easy, easy, layered, i needed this feel good moment in my life and Kateryna was there ton make it happen. She deserves a raise! :) I must say, I have gotten my hair cut by a few people in this salon and I am always happy. Laid back and professional.

Aida gives the BEST cuts! Consistent and responsive to requests, able to do subtle tweaks…am lucky to have found her a few years ago and i continue to see her regularly! Salon is lovely in great neighborhood.

Ari did an amazing job on my extensions! She took the time to do a consultation to make sure I pick the hair type, colors and length. Set the proper expectations with me and I’ve never had extensions installed so quickly but secured! I’ve gone back to her twice and will continue to go to her.

I’m new to the city and this was my first salon visit in almost 6 months. I found Salon 718 after doing some research online and finding it to be reasonably priced. I know it takes some people months to find not only the right hair salon, but the right stylist as well, I’m so lucky to have hit it out of the park on the first try! I had Dayle take care of me, and she was excellent. She took her time and made sure to ask me if everything was to my liking along the way. I even took Dayle’s advice and tried a totally new highlight color which turned out amazing. I am so happy I trusted Dayle to do her thing, from the new color to chopping off 4 inches, I walked out feeling amazing. I also really appreciated that I didn’t have any services forced on me or products shoved in my face. Things were recommended but I never felt pressured to purchase anything I didn’t want. I actually think I will be back soon to purchase the heat protectant spray that Dayle recommended. I could not be happier with my results. I will 100% be back and definitely requesting Dayle.

So disappointing & not welcoming of textured hair as advertised. I was looking for a salon in my neighborhood to become a regular at. I saw that salon 718 touted itself as being inclusive of all hair types, carried Mizani products and even had Mizani certified stylists. I decided to give it a try. For context, I am half Black and my hair is a good representation of that. I came here a total of 4 times and took appointments with 3 different hairstylists. The first 2 appointments were with Stephanie and Kateryna. Stephanie did a good job blowing out my hair and I was also happy with Kateryna (at first), who seemed to take the necessary time to take care of my hair. My 3rd appointment was a last minute one and I got scheduled with Alyssa. She made multiple comments about my hair texture, which included: complaints that my hair was impossible to detangle, told me to stop using my current products like Olaplex and Ouidad (which I am very knowledgeable of -- I am a beauty journalist), did not use any detangling spray as I recommended, told me I need to put a special note when making an appointment because I have "too much hair". It was abundantly clear that Alyssa had no training and experience taking care of textured hair. This appointment left me feeling very uncomfortable and I decided to go back to Kateryna. Unfortunately, the tone was completely different this time around. I booked my usual blowout and a Mizani treatment which had been very kindly recommended by one of the assistants prior. When I arrived, I was told that the Mizani treatment wasn't available. I was disappointed but decided to trust the stylist's judgment to go with another option. I also noted that I usually get a treatment once a month and usually sit 15 minutes under the dryer (instead of way longer like most people with textured hair). I stayed under for 5 minutes tops. Again, I decided to trust her judgment as I am not familiar with the product. She proceeded to blowout my hair and I am very unhappy with the result. The ends aren't curled like last time and it overall looks frizzy. I immediately put it up in a bun as I walked out. If only it stopped there. Kateryna ended the appointment saying that I needed to be charged more for detangling on top of the extra fee for long hair that I am used to. I shared that this is something I've never been charged extra for (I usually go to a Black or Dominican salon) and that detangling is a part of the process for anyone with textured hair. She insisted and said I would be charged more next time I book. She did not say goodbye and left me with my wet towel, robe and frizzy hair in the chair. I was shocked by her attitude and bias towards me. It is important for me to share these experiences to inform other people of color, in particular Black or mixed people, what to expect as they may be considering this salon. I was shown on multiple occasions that my hair type was not welcomed here and that the stylists I've booked with do not know how to take care of all hair types as the salon advertises itself. I am extremely disappointed and hurt by these experiences. I highly suggest the salon stops touting itself as being inclusive when it clearly isn't. This experience makes me happy that NY state recently passed a law requiring all hair schools to teach students about textured hair. Hopefully the next generation won't have to deal with these types of interactions and micro aggressions in a setting that is supposed to be relaxing.
