I’ve been getting yearly haircuts from Kevin since 2019, and he always does an excellent job. I don’t color my hair, so a good haircut makes a big difference, and he never fails to deliver. Plus, he often shares great haircare tips.

I asked for a perm and the two people that attended me were extremely kind and clear through the whole haircut. They told me about everything we should do, and how to do it, and everything. The guy that was with me even stayed 1:40 hours after they closed just to make my hair perfect. I highly reccomend, as they really care about your hair and it is worth it for the price.

I highly recommend this place for if you’re getting a perm. Ask for Poh Yee. She did an amazing job and the perm looks AMAZING! She was very patient and made sure I got what I was looking for. Sweet lady and very easy to have conversation with. Will definitely be coming back for another visit.

It’s been a few days since my digital perm and I’m so in love with the transformation of my hair. Everything took a little less than 4 hours and the whole time, I felt I was being taken care of. The staff were all so warm, courteous, and professional. Steve was exceptional in making sure my hair was just how I wanted it. He gave great insight into the perm process and how to take care of my hair afterwards. It’s costly but it’s very much worth it for me as my previous digital perm lasted around 9 months. I highly recommend this salon and I’m for sure coming back! Update after 4 months: I love how low maintenance my hair has been outside of washing my hair twice a week and using JVN air dry cream. The curls aren’t as pronounced on one side but it still looks beautiful to me. The most recent photo is my hair mostly dried after showering. I’m interested in experimenting with braiding my hair at night after using the hair cream because it seemed like it accentuated the waves last time I tried it! Thanks again, Steve!

Steve King has been taking care of my hair for about 15 years, cuts, color, etc. He's skilled, artistic, and nice. Everyone who works in this shop is really great. My boyfriend, also a client, says Steve is a hair sculptor.

My experience at Salonhqz Inc with Steve Kong was really great. Earlier this year, I decided to get a perm for the first time and, safe to say, I had a bad experience. Because of this, I wasn't very hopeful when trying to find the right place and person for my second perm. At Salonhqz Inc, Steve and his staff were welcoming and accommodating from the get-go. Throughout the entire process, Steve kept me engaged by explaining to me what he was doing and why he was doing it during each step of the perm process. He also made sure to ask me for my opinion and if I had any questions/concerns during each step as well. In the end, my perm turned out to be much better than I could have hoped for; I left the salon incredibly satisfied with Steve and his work. I would 11/10 recommend this place to everyone, especially guys who are looking to get a perm for the first time and are on the fence, have difficulty finding a good hairstylist, and/or simply looking to change up their hairstyle. Rest assured that you will be in good hands with Steve and his staff! *update (4/8/24): I've had a total of three perms with Steve since my initial review, and, safe to say, that I'm still one very satisfied customer.

Steve Kong is the best hair stylist in Chinatown/Soho. He's been doing my hair for over 30 years, when I was just a little kid. He's been the stylist for my family for 4 separate generations. I don't go to anyone else for my haircut.

Get an appointment with Poh Yee PLEASE, her attention to detail when cutting your hair is actually amazing. She even asked me for headshots first so she can think about what to do for my hair. The staff is really friendly and professional. You can tell they are really honest about their work.

Hair stylist Pho Yee did a great job getting the hair style I wanted. I showed her a photo and she would find other photos that are similar to it. She was kind and friendly. She was wonderful hair stylist I ever had.

I absolutely loved my experience working with Professor Steve Kong and Ken. My color came out better than I imagined, they knew exactly what to do with my hair. They worked quick and efficiently and created a custom toner for my hair. I would reccomend to anyone for perfect cuts and colors

I had an amazing experience w Kevin!! I had blonde peekaboo that has grown out quite a lot, and I wanted my whole head to be burgundy without bleach. I've never had a good hair salon experience so I was pretty anxious coming in. Kevin was really patient in explaining the process from start to finish. He took his time and reassured me throughout the whole process. I'm super happy with the results!

MAKE SURE TO ASK FOR KEVIN!! This was my first time ever bleaching my hair and Kevin made the experience so easy. We had a a small consultation of basically what I was looking to get and he recommended me some steps to take (like root shadowing so i don't damage my scalp). I absolutely love the final look and I'm recommending him to everyone cause WOW.

This is not a fake review in case anyone is weary of high google ratings like I am. I have known Steve for years and I won't go anywhere else for color work in NYC. He is a professional and a deeply caring and authentic person. It is not cheap to get your hair done here, but he does not charge unfair prices for the work he does. I also like the ladies he works with. They are very friendly and warm. I quite like the low key environment of the salon yet exceptional professionalism it offers. I highly recommend Steve Kong.

Here is a fantastic, extremely underrated hair salon in Soho! I had a wonderful coloring experience here with Steve Kong. His and the whole staff’s professionalism really shone through. I asked for blue hair and Steve brought so much to the table, showing me various approaches we could take and how the colors would change over time. The result is stunning and I’ve never been so obsessed with my hair. Also had such a warm experience with the other staff who were helping to dye my hair and felt a lot of connection to them. I would highly recommend this salon to anyone looking to get their hair done 😊

I had a phenomenal experience getting a perm at Salonhqz. Kevin was incredibly knowledgeable, attentive, and walked me through every step. I loved how detail oriented he was, and he showed me exactly how to style and take care of my hair long term. The experience was incredible, everyone was super friendly and welcoming and I definitely will come back after 6 months to get another!

I highly recommend Kevin at Salon HQZ. I've been going to Kevin for over a year now and I always recommend him to any of my friends. He's really great at working with you to help you achieve the hairstyle you want, whether it be in one session or two or three (if the hairstyle you want is drastically different or longer). He also genuinely cares about hair health and doesn't provide services he thinks will damage your hair or scalp. Kevin always takes his time and I always leave feeling great; I've been searching for a great barber/salon for a long time and this is my go-to, especially at such a fair price.

Steve has been doing my hair since I moved to NYC three years ago and my hair has turned out fantastic every time. This is the most recent balayage and cut that Steve did for me. He is clearly a coloring expert and knows what he’s talking about. Last year when I went blonde, my hair never turned brassy (as it did before when I went to other stylists). This year, I wanted to do something a little more subtle and a month later, my hair still looks great (I get oily so I need to wash my hair every other day). He’s very detailed and really takes his time! Steve is also very educational and has taught me a lot about how to tone (even down to what shades to purchase) and how to style my hair. I highly recommend Steve if you’re looking for a stylist!

I have been coming to Steve for 5 plus years. He is the only one I know without fail will cut and style my hair exactly how I envision it. The first time I showed up he had so much knowledge about hair care and how to help maintain my hair I was blown away at the improvements it made to my hair. No matter where I move in the city I always travel to Steve for my haircut. Highly recommend a 10/10 experience

I've been a client of Steve Kong for many years. He is professional, kind, warm, and thoughtful, and it shows in the entire salon and experience. Steve gets to know your hair better than you. He knows exactly what to do with my hair and I've never been disappointed. I appreciate the way he cuts and colors my hair perfectly. I always get compliments about how healthy and beautiful my hair looks. I've had other stylists and apprentices at the salon helping to color, wash, and dry my hair and always had a good experience. You can tell the other stylists are trained well based on the leadership of Steve. The entire team at Salonhqz is friendly and warm. I won't ever go anywhere else for my hair!

I was never one to get my hair done, but a friend recommended and I’ve been coming here ever since. Steve will make sure he delivers what’s a fit for you and what you asked for, if not better. Pricing is reasonable and the quality lives up to it as well!
