My daughter and I recently visited this salon for extensions, and while the space is visually appealing, the service left much to be desired. Unfortunately, the stylists here seem inexperienced with traditional sew-ins and lace closure sew-ins. The stylist who worked on my daughter’s hair (she had copper hair) didn’t even know how to properly curl the hair. The braiding pattern was inconsistent, with two large braids in the back and smaller ones on the sides—it looked rushed and unprofessional, as you can see in the photos. As for my own experience, my lace was already lifting within 24 hours, and parts of my hair weren’t even sewn down completely, which is unacceptable. Despite these issues, I was not refunded for my incomplete service (a matter I’m currently disputing). Thankfully, my daughter did receive a refund. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this place. The lack of skill and attention to detail makes it clear they are not equipped to deliver quality hair services.

Let me start by saying the staff is amazing, great personalities from everyone. Super welcoming and felt like a safe space for the girls. However the actual hairstyle I got was frankly really bad. I came in for a last minute appointment and was grateful to be seen. Enjoyed myself and the talk with the women in the salon. But it took them two and a half hours to blow dry my 4c hair because they used a paddle brush and weren’t allowed to use a comb attachment apparently. My blowdry came out uneven and patchy which made the flat ironing I needed done after much harder to do and made the braid down painful. It then took another five hours to do a half up half down quick weave. I had a Christmas dinner and expected to leave the chair to make it since I came in at 3:30 but I left at 10:30 at night with a hairstyle that actually made me cry in the Uber because it was so far from what I asked for. By the end of my visit I was tired and just wanted to go home, I even asked to just leave and finish my hair at home but it was so half done I just had to wait while everyone figured it out. Like I said I’m really sad to leave this review and I would have charged it to the game until I finally just took down the style because it was bothering me that bad and saw how much my hair was really played in. I hope in the future they adjust to accommodate 4c clients or frankly just be honest about the capacity they had I definitely would have understood. All in all the only thing I really enjoyed was the customer service but the hair itself just wasn’t done well. I spent $270 to feel ugly.

To the consumer beware of this salon! They prioritize making clients pay for additional services over integrity. I also overheard the owner ask the stylist who did my wash if I booked and "paid" for the trim online. I booked a service with you and you don't know what I'm getting? I've been coming here for a year for the same service (wash, blowout, and trim) without issue--until today. For the first time, I was told there's a $55 detangling fee, despite never hearing this before, even when my hair was in similar or less prepared states in the past and I wasn't charged a fee. The new stylist insisted on the fee, confirmed it with the owner, and spent about 15 minutes detangling hair that wasn't severely tangled. To make matters worse, the stylist was sick and repeatedly interrupted my service to handle other clients and tasks. Extremely disappointing coming from a place I was usually satisfied with. I won't compromise convenience over integrity though and will patronize a salon that doesn't aggressively try to charge for add-ons. UPDATE for clarity: I was charged for a situation that essentially didn't apply to me as I was not "removing braids from an install OR braid extensions AND needed additional care to untangle tangled hair." Shawanda essentially lied to me over the phone and acted as though this was a service added to tangled hair regardless and that the time limit didn't matter. That is not what is stated here this is a 30 minute service for a SPECIFIC need, such as detangling after a protective style left in for two months. I went in with natural hair no extensions.

Amazing service by Shawanda and staff at Sew BK as always. I walk out looking beautiful after her hands blesses my hair. I get so many compliments about my hair and it last so long. Thank you so much for always delivering perfection.

I have been coming to Sewbk for many many years and I have never been disappointed by Shawanda and her team. I am always greeted with smiles and professionalism. Oh and let’s not forget the mimosas 🥳. You can always count on Sewbk to execute any style you are looking for. I have been wearing my natural hair more now because Shawanda has “growing hands” and takes care of it so well for me because let’s be honest…. Being a gym girlie gets hard for the natural girlies! Book with sewbk, you will not be disappointed!!!! It’s worth every penny!

Everytime I come here the experience is top notch. I go to Shawanda to do my hair and the service is always amazing. After coming here so many times, she got to know me as a client and as a person. She knows your likes and dislikes and gives you the service and style you want. I leave loving my hair and feeling so confident. Thank you Shawanda. It’s hard finding a place like this.

First of all l.. when I go to a salon, I always do my research and I definitely probably wouldn’t have come if the reviews were what I needed to make a decision. Luckily, my friend reassured me that I would be in great hands if I book. I took the chance and I have never ever ever been to a BLACK salon in BROOKLYN were everyone is pleasant!!!LOL from Jaleesa the manager who answered all my questions and then on the walk in everyone said HELLO, I got a little startled! Shawanda the owner was my stylist and she is definitely a professional if nothing else. She installed my 3 bundles and 2x6 closure I wish I knew they sold hair because I would have just purchased it there and saved myself two stops. Either way I love my hair and I’ll be back!

Beautiful hair salon that will take care of lol your hair styling needs, hair sewing, silk press and an amazing hair wash blow dry and steam treatment LOOK NO FURTHER this is the place I am sold🥰 been going to see brooklyn for months now and I found a new home for my hair care, the Space immaculate and beautiful.

I had an exceptional experience at Sewbk Hair Salon! From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm, chic and inviting. The salon was spotless, including the bathroom, which shows their attention to detail. The customer service was top-notch. The scheduling process super easy, and the cashless checkout was so convenient since I rarely carry cash. I also loved the variety of beverages offered — including mimosas, which was a nice touch! Shawanda worked efficiently, having me in and out in no time, yet my new look was flawless. I've received so many compliments! I truly loved every aspect of my visit from beginning to end and can’t wait to return!

I recently visited Sew Brooklyn, a Black-owned hair salon that truly specializes in hair retention and care, and I couldn't be more impressed. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was inviting and the staff made me feel right at home. I’ve been going to Sew Brooklyn for years and it’s the only place I’ll ever go for my hair needs. When you walk in you’re immediately immersed in an elegant yet cozy atmosphere that feels luxurious. The decor is chic with modern touches and the space is immaculately clean. All of the staff is professional annnnnd they offer you beverages upon arrival. But let’s get into why I really go here - one name Shawanda! Shawanda always gets my hair right. I recently went in for my birthday and got a middle part Sew Basic that was gorgeous! We are talking full bouncy curls, the ultimate blend with my leave out and hair that got me compliments all night! I love that it’s always one less thing to worry about when my appointment is booked. I know I will walk in a mess and walk out looking and feeling amazing. If you’re looking for your hair home, not just some IG popular place that’ll disappoint you, Sew Brooklyn and Shawanda is it!

Visiting the salon after researching the business for sometime seeing a lot of negative reviews but still giving it a try and I’m so happy I did. Shawanda was the best. She is personable and very much talented. She educated me on what I needed to do to get my hair as healthy as I wanted. Her question to me was “what are your hair goals?” No stylist I’ve ever met has ever asked me that question. I’m so happy with my hair. I received a sew basic install which was discounted for the day and time I booked a trim and hair steam. I have to say I was surprised about how quick I was done

I am deeply disappointed with my recent experience at this salon. I had a ponytail done the day before a wedding, and to my dismay, it fell apart on the wedding day. Another hairdresser at the event had to step in to fix it. When I called the salon to explain the situation, I was met with rudeness and a lack of concern. They insisted I come in on the wedding day but was unavailable. Despite being in town for two more days, they refused to fix my hair, citing their off days. The representative on the phone was unhelpful and dismissive, placing the blame on me and demanding extensive proof, including photos and a detailed description. They didn't believe my account and were unwilling to take responsibility for it. They also mentioned they wouldn't send anyone in on their off days despite the inconvenience they caused me. I had to rely on bobby pins for the rest of my trip until I returned to Houston. They resolved to offer a 50% discount for a year, which is unhelpful since I don't live in New York. This morning, the same representative continued to argue and blame me for the situation. Due to my lack of an exact photo of the failed ponytail, they refused to refund my money. I've never felt compelled to leave a negative review until now. This salon does not prioritize customer satisfaction and seems more interested in taking your money than providing quality service. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this salon to anyone. Their unprofessionalism and lack of empathy were quite disheartening. Hair cost $250

Do you ever feel like you're being fleeced but you can't quite put your finger on it because you are paying for a service? A decent service...and may I dare say that Sew BK tries to pillar themselves as almost a luxury boutique. Perhaps this is me giving them too much credit and flattery here... and yet...something is off. From my very first time here it feels like the prices are completely overinflated for the services they provide. I continued to try, partially because I had the extra income to spend and also because I wanted to give myself a taste of the luxury boutique experience they seem to espouse. But I just always felt I was being SO OVERCHARGED honestly. The first time I believe my package for what was a hair install with the hair purchased, the hair install and wash and blow came out to basically 1,000. And another thing about this place, they DEFINITELY expect a tip. not that there's anything wrong with that...it's just...the feeling...of already feeling like you paid so much money AND you know they want a tip AND you know they want a tip proportionate to the money you already provided them which you feel is overpriced...you just end up walking away with a sour taste in your mouth. It's how I felt the first time I came here and I tried to shake it off because all the ladies overall seemed lovely. Second time I asked for a wig created. In total for the wig created, which BY THE WAY a finished wig they already had on hand with a few customizations that took about an hour...came out to 1000 dollars. the wig was alright. but again. the feeling of being FLEECED. and yet...I decided to try them again. Big mistake. Today I was unable to make my appointment due to a family emergency. I tried to call in advance, phone was off. Got a callback in which i was told they don't do rescheduling. Didn't even check if i was a repeat customer or anything..because newsflash: THEY DON'T CARE. THEY JUST WANT YOUR MONEY. Thank you Jaleesa for returning my call, I believe it was you. I absolutely understand having the no refund policy to keep your business afloat but wouldn't you want to offer support to repeat clients who DO want to give their money to you? I hope you can take to heart these words because I am a black woman just like you AND I would gladly give my coins and a lot more to a place that I don't feel is OBSESSED with fleecing me over providing a good service/clientele rapport. I have a feeling you guys will take this review all wrong though and if that's the case then so be it. I gave two stars because of my phone call this morning as well as the prior experiences but ALSO because this place does provide decent hair service so I don't want to give one star. It's not SPECTACULAR though and again, I'd say overall I don't think the money is worth it and keep in mind I WOULD pay 1000 dollars for hair if I felt like it was actually worth it...because hello, I already did. And I'd feel more compelled to tip if you made me feel like a human being rather than someone to exploit. And what makes this even weirder is that it's ALL done with the veneer of professionalism and kindness. We did not argue at all in the phone call and Jaleesa actually was very courteous. I would say that one of her positive qualities is her communication skills to a degree, but again, there's a falseness there that feels extremely palpable and also almost integrated into the business ethos and ultimately what I feel may block them from true success and why I felt the need to leave this scathing review. Which if you read overall, really wasn't that bad. Done with the veneer of kindness as well, except mine feels more sincere.

This place is expensive and Janice cannot do hair!! I am used to the best people doing my hair in my life! I was desperate as my normal stylist was booked! So, I went here thinking the experience would be good and my hair would look really good. I had to go somewhere else to fix my leave out, spending even more money after spending $469. Sew Brooklyn step your game up and get better stylist! DO NOT GO HERE!!! Pricing isn’t an issue for me if it’s good work. Terrible job, then getting smart with me like she is a knowledgeable stylist! They charge for everything and they lacking in experienced stylist! Then try to limit you to 2 bundles only or pay for an extra bundle to be installed.. like what? Then in the site you would think this place is always booked cause there are limited appointments but an empty shop it was! No wonder it’s empty cause they must not have clientele! I got there at 11:30 am and didn’t leave until 5:15 pm. Janice was super slow and not knowledgeable, I had to tell her what other top stylist do! She didn’t do my hair good! Used the smallest comb to get tangles out my hair! Simple stuff you should know! Signed a pissed customer!

Flew from Dallas to get the amazing services at Sew Brooklyn by Janice. Janice was so nice and professional. I loved my versatile sew-in. I haven’t had results like this in years. The shop is also beautiful, clean and offer drinks upon arrival by their great staff. Stellar shop!

Big fraud, I went there for my birthday hair and the owner did a closure with leave out. Never asked for leave out and tried to convince me that it looked good and wouldn’t fix it after I asked. Charged me $900 when it should have been $600. Terrible all around.

Best experience I've had with a sew-in! Kayla was my stylist and she was great. She was on time (even with an early 9am appointment) and was very friendly. She gave me advice about my hair maintenance routine and helped me pick the right hair to buy from what they had in the shop. I will definitely be back! Thank you Kayla.

Had a great experience today with Kayla. I arrived and was received with a warm welcome from the staff. They offered me coffee, tea or mimosas while I waited which was really nice. Kayla took my right away and was great providing her service. She was so sweet and personable and I will look forward in returning and referring my friends and family :).

I give 3.5 stars because the price is very inflated. For the wash they use Design Essentials, and the protein treatment is good ole Aphogee. I have better products at home but the knowledge, location, community, customer service and speed of service makes it worth ok for me lol. I received the Wash & Blow ($45), hair trim ($50), protein treatment ($55) and traditional braid down ($50). I have my own lace wig and like to sew it down and lay it myself (I use bold hold). All in all, I paid a lil over $250 including tip to have my hair washed, treatment, trim and braided down. I think that’s a bit much for what I received but I enjoyed my time there. They offered Coffee upon arrival and even a Mimosa as I was waiting for my braid down. I will go again every month for the same services until my hair is healthy. So, determine for yourself! If you're willing to spend the money, this salon may be for you. Personally, I will continue to come here until for a few months. Hopefully by then I find a solid salon. Also their rescheduling and deposit system sucks so if you’re sick or something comes up with family. They will not be understanding and they will keep your deposit.

I had lost all my “faith” in hairdressers and I certainly have not regained any!!!!!They always seem to understand what I want but fail to show and tell, my hair has been taken advantage of and violated! I got an install Saturday 10/6 and it’s out today, Monday 10/8. My hair is thin, 2 bundles were applied and hair left out to blend and in less than 24 hours it was an epic fail; wrong texture, wrong style and a bad choice to proceed on my part, I do acknowledge my part but I wanted a change and I wanted it bad. I gave the stylist freedom to create a look for me and left with a rudimentary style which could have worked if the hair blended and the install wasn’t so tight so tight I now have a bald spot the size of my pinky nail on the right side of my head and now I’m requesting a partial refund if not for that I’d take the loss but because I expressed to the stylist the effort I put into trying to grow out my hair to lose 2 inches or more with a trim and now the bald spot I need reparations; if not that then to tell my story and forwarn you all to trust these stylist… it’s not just hair; at the end of the day when you go in one way and come out another minus hundreds of dollars…a hairdresser must be someone you can trust!!! I wish I could give it more then 5 stars. I was so nervous trying a new place let alone a new person to do my hair. The reviews had me more afraid but I gave it a chance anyway and I am glad I did! I paid about 270 for a sew in , I brought my hair , I washed & blew dried my own hair. I will be going back for now on. Customer service was amazing from the young lady who braided my hair so neat and not tight at all to the lady who did my install. I felt like I was sitting there having girl talk with my friends.Yes the way they do installs are different but it works. The shop so pretty and clean. Great music to vibe to while getting your hair done! Thank you for making my birthday! My hair really looks amazing. the price was worth the customer service and attention to detail it is the small things that count.

I’m writing this review on my sisters behalf, she came in today for a wash and blow with a trim. Her experience was unpleasant to say the least, she has 4C hair and during the blow dry the stylist (Karah) told her that she is experiencing trouble while blow drying her hair especially at the roots. The stylist insisted on putting her back under the dryer for it to dry. When she went back to blow dry through it, she did not section it at all until my sister told her that sectioning would be the best course of action. When dealing with all hair types it is best to section the hair in order to blow dry properly. As for the trim it was absolutely terrible, the front and left side of her hair is extremely shorter than the rest. If you didn’t know better you would think she had a deconstructed mullet. The overall experience was terrible.

They charge an absurd amount for terrible weave. Plus everything is charge. I bought my own hot oil and they charged me for a hot oil treatment and the weave came out dreadful I took it out in a week. Like half of the reviews have to be fake cause ain’t no way

This is my 4th visit and I absolutely love the service I receive during my appointments. Kayla is amazing, professional and always makes a time here a pleasant one. The salon itself is always welcoming at offers so many options when it comes to your Beauty needs.

I had a really negative experience at this salon with the Senior Stylist Shawanda being the perpetrator(instigator). To start Kayla G styled my basic sew-in service with (no extras). The salon charged me $50 more to go without a net for my sew-in claiming my braids were smaller. Not only that the Senior stylist Shawanda was dropping her clients hair extensions all over the floor unbeknownst to her client. I should have spoken up BUT prior to that Kayla dropped my bundles on the floor as well. Which I was almost about to leave the salon and should have made the smarter decision to leave at the moment after the first sign of disrespect. Overall, I invested $900 for my hair extensions and I was expected to pay $270 for the basic sew-in. The shop manager at the time or receptionist upcharged me $50 and attempted another $35 . I didn’t really care about the $50 but instead offering an apology for her staffs rude/jealous behavior she attempted to upcharge more funds and stated “I’m sorry if that is your opinion of your salon experience.” No apology or refund offered just rudeness. Kayla cut my hair wefts as well which means I cannot reuse my investment(hair). My advise to Kayla if you want to elevate someday then you cannot operate business mirroring Shawanda’s behavior. She will have you losing your future customers and tips. I will still continue supporting my fellow Black owned business but I will not be returning to this salon.
