Went into Shag Noir to get a haircut from Hannah since I’ve seen her amazing work on others and her immaculate taste in hair styles and I had THE best experience I’ve had in Austin. The salon is cute and the customer service and sense of belonging, comfort, and relaxation that I experienced was exactly the experience I sought, not to mention the wonderful cut that Hannah gave me. I gave her a handful of ideas, and she listened to me without being dismissive and brought them to life AND it grew out gracefully and it still looks amazing after 1+ month. Highly recommend—Hannah is the best!

I recently applied to Shag Noir and was excited about the opportunity to work in a salon that values diversity in hair textures. However, I was disappointed that my application was declined due to an assumption about my skills based on my Instagram bio. While I mentioned wanting to gain more experience with kinky, curly textures, I am already comfortable working with curly hair and was looking forward to further developing my skills in a supportive environment. Unfortunately, I wasn’t given the chance to explain this or showcase my abilities. I believe salons should foster learning and give stylists the opportunity to grow while contributing their expertise. While this wasn’t the right fit, I hope Shag Noir continues to support stylists looking to advance their careers and broaden their skills.

Minnie and team do a phenomenal job at cutting and styling my 3c curly hair. I have had so many bad experiences at salons over my lifetime that I almost decided not to step in one again. Having only ever used DIY box dye to color my hair before coming here, Oz was able to explain why it was that I was having so many problems getting it to resemble anything like the box. They also helped with after care by recommending a well priced hair shampoo and conditioner that helped my colors actually stay instead of fading dull like it always did when I would purchase my not so helpful shampoo and conditioners. You’ll definitely get the quality hair services you want in a cute and comfy environment. I Highly recommend you give Shag Noir a try!

Mimi has been cutting my daughter's hair for a while now. She is one of the most genuinely caring, authentic and talented people you will ever meet. She takes the time to truly understand what haircut my daughter is asking for and always delivers. Shag Noir Salon is a fabulous fit for her. The atmosphere is so inviting. It has one of those vibes where you instantly feel welcomed and at ease. We can't wait to go back!

Had a great experience with Minnie. She gave me great tips on how to upkeep my natural hair and what products would be beneficial, along with styling. It's not cheap but worth the investment to come here, especially if you're looking for a holistic hair care and styling. And great to support a black women owned business!

I just moved to Austin and have been searching for a place to get my (very curly) hair cut and stumbled upon Shag Noir Salon. I saw all the amazing reviews and made an appointment, and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! I’ve always struggled to find stylists that know how to work with my hair and achieve the vision I had, but at Shag Noir I finally got the cut that I’ve wanted for YEARS! Minnie was very clear and communicative about what we were doing and listened to all of my concerns. I’ve never felt more confident about my hair!

I recently followed my hair stylist, Hannah Jordan to Shag Noir Salon and I love it! The owner is so lovely, the space is warm and so aesthetic, the products they use must be made of magic because my hair has never been so soft, and the staff is wonderful. If yoy want the most perfect haircut you’ve ever had and for someone to truly listen to what YOU want, I highly recommend Hannah. She’s a wiz with color too. I will probably never let anyone else cut my hair ever again!!

full transparency and vulnerability: i let myself go. thank god i met and knew Minnie. she took the mats out of my hair, because the stress of everything 2024 has thrown at me had me neglecting my self care - especially my hair. then you get embarrassed to ask for help, and it just gets worse. and worse - the time had come: it needed to be dealt with. being black bi-racial, my momma tried - but she didn’t know. i’ve been burned by quite a few hairstylists touting they could cut my hair and get me where i wanted, but, nope. Minnie is amazing at what she does, most definitely - but she went above and beyond, and has created such a safe and judgment free environment that after we got started the embarrassment and anxiety i had upon my arrival quite literally melted away. she was so caring, and honestly i just felt like i had a bff taking care of me while we chatted and i let her do her thing. as long as Minnie is in austin, i don’t see anybody else touching my hair.

Hannah is a magician and technician. I came to her with a hack job and hair trauma after three bad “fixes” at other salons. I felt like I was at a wildlife refuge where my little wing was being mended or something lol. Y’all know how much of a game changer a GOOD haircut is after a bad one. On top of that, she’s extremely gentle and has an amazing, welcoming vibe. Elite bedside manner if y’all wanna get fancy. (As a borderline hermit who doesn’t always talk to people regularly this is so treasured!) My hair is extremely thick and pretty wavy. I had wanted a bob for so long. Knowing this combo would be working against me, I had accepted the fact that I would be putting in more time fixing shorter hair if I took the plunge. Leaving the appointment, Hannah mentioned to me that I wouldn’t have to do much to it in the mornings. She was so right. I’ve probably “done” my hair like three times since my cut with her. I usually pop out of bed, drag the comb and I’m good to go. She did such a great job. Between her amazing attention to detail and love for reality TV, yeah I’m never going anywhere else.

I followed Hannah from her old salon, and wow! First off, Hannah is literally the best. She nails my hair every single time and makes sure she keeps my hair healthy. She listens to my hair goals and we have a great time together, too! Shag Noir has an amazing vibe. It’s very clear that the salon treats its stylists extremely well, and it’s cute to boot! 10000000% recommend!

I’ve come here twice to get my hair colored (platinum blonde) and I’ve left incredibly fulfilled and satisfied each time. There’s a clear and intent focus here on the science of one’s hair which makes each experience unique and tailored to one’s specific hair texture and ultimate desired outcome. Their opinions are always with your best interest in mind - I stopped by once thinking I needed a touch up and they said, “save the money, I think you’re good. Try this product for right now and come back in a few weeks to do the full thing.” No markups, all love. And on top of the exceptional quality of the end result with my hair, the space is incredibly inclusive and welcoming to all types of clients. It’s a highlight of my day when I stop by here and is undoubtedly my go-to for hair coloring.

Oz is amazing and this is one of the best salon experiences I have ever had. They paid so much attention to so many details and communicated throughout. I felt so special and my hair looks and feels amazing. Great shag with razors and amazing at color-bleaching and vivid. Also blurred my greys so I don’t have a line when it grows out. I didn’t even need an itch stick for the bleach because they were so careful with it! Thank you Oz! ❤️

Shag Noir Salon is awesome. It is such a welcoming and comfortable place. I have fairly long hair and I love vivid colors, which doesn't always mix. Oz has been amazing at getting the bright colors of my dreams while maintaining the health of my hair. I highly recommend them!

Nice little spot in my neighborhood! Near a few other cool shops as well. The main reason I would suggest y’all come here is for Hannah, when she’s not working with celebrities or rock stars, she’s here cutting hair for us regular folk. Very skilled, has a great eye and knows people really well, always a great experience and a great cut.

The space is such a vibe. It’s so visually interesting inside you won’t get bored staring at the wall waiting for your roots to process! The main reason I go to Shag Noir is because of Oz. They are truly a master of vivids. They can mix up a bowl of color like no other. I’ll never go anywhere else!

I had a great experience at Shag Noir! I luckily stumbled upon it just via online searching for a new salon in Austin and went in for a consult with Courtney and she was fantastic. She was open about the fact that she is still learning textured hair and that she wanted to consult with Minnie (the salon owner and lead stylist) about how to cut my hair. I went back a week later for my cut and she did an amazing job!! Most importantly I felt respected and valued by Courtney and felt she was genuinely happy that I trusted her to learn with my hair. It can be really hard to find stylists who want to learn new textures and are respectful of hair they might not fully understand. She was awesome and I'm glad I found her!! I also got to meet Minnie during my appointment and she is also fantastic and sets a great tone for the shop. The overall salon was a great vibe. I'm glad I found it and will recommend it to friends!!

I will never willingly see a different hair dresser again. Minnie has been doing my hair for years and I have always looked and felt fantastic when I walk out the door. The space is super relaxing and welcoming. And all of the stylists are incredibly nice.

Minnie is my gal when it comes to hair color!!! She is a whiz at creating new fun colors for me and she can give me a root touch up, highlights and a cut in 2 hours!!! Her salon is a warm, inviting, safe space. I love the vibes in there coz it really feels like a mini vacation for me. And Minnie… she’s just kind and fun and such a blast to hang out with! Minnie is my hair color hero! I originally came to her for the first time about 5 years ago after someone else did a bad color job. She fixed it like a total pro and I have never looked back. I take thyroid medication so my hair tends to turn brassy when bleaching but Minnie is an absolute genius and has coloring my hair down to a perfect science. She is the only person I trust with my hair and I am so grateful to have her. She is also a truly awesome and caring person and it is a joy to spend those three hours with her every couple of months. Best salon in ATX, highly recommend!

This salon was SOOO cute and cozy. I felt instantly at home. Intimate & inviting. Courtney did a color refresh, partial highlight & cut! I am obsessed with the color and long layers. Super happy with the results - overall I HIGHLY recommend.

courtney is a wonderful stylist / artist . she is very kind and very knowledgeable and informative the whole way through the hair appt. She cares about her work and you as a client . the salon is also adorable :)
