Had one of the loveliest haircuts at Shair Union Square from the lovely, kind, and endearing Nissy (Kohei Nishiyama)! I can’t recommend him enough. He is kind, attentive, and extremely detail-oriented. He asks you about your preferences every step of the way and it is very clear how much ease he cuts hair with due to over a decade of experience in Japan. Don’t walk, run over to get your next amazing haircut!

I got a lovely haircut here by Nissy. He was very friendly and worked with my needs for my hair type and style. I cut off a good amount of hair and left feeling refreshed. The salon has very zen and modern vibes.

I visited the stylist (Kazunori) at their West Village location for a simple bang cut. I showed him a reference picture (as seen in the first picture) and even mentioned that my hair is curved, so it might need to be straightened before cutting. He dismissed my concern, assured me it was fine, and finished the cut in just 5 minutes. At first, I felt the shape looked odd, but he insisted it was correct. The next morning, I woke up and realized that the middle section was noticeably longer than the sides, no matter how I styled it. Frustrated, I called the salon to ask if they could fix it—it would have taken less than 5 minutes. However, they told me the stylist wasn’t working that day. Since I hated how my bangs looked, I asked if any other stylist could fix them. They said I’d have to wait. Left with no choice, I ended up fixing my bangs myself. Unsatisfied with this experience, I booked another appointment at the Union Square location because I trusted a stylist I had worked with before. However, the manager at this location called me and canceled my appointment because I left a bad review for their West Village location. This level of unprofessionalism is shocking. Rather than addressing the issues raised in my review, they chose to retaliate against me as a customer. Not only was their service unacceptable, but their attitude has been even worse. I absolutely do not recommend this salon if they can’t handle basic customer service or a simple bang cut. Unbelievable!

From drab to fab! My hair was looking dull, but Nishi brought it back to life. His precision and creativity completely transformed my look. He was efficient and fast, which was perfect for a weekday morning when I needed to head back to work. Nissy is the best! I'm pretty indecisive but needed to cut some length off, and Nissy helped me figure out a shoulder length style that was low maintenance. The haircut turned out great!

SHAIR is one of my go-to places to get a haircut in the city, and I’m especially fond of Haruka! I’ve brought friends (and of course myself) to get haircuts from her, and she always does an exceptional, meticulous job. Overall, the Union Square location has a great vibe and everyone there is super friendly. Highly recommended!

Naoe at Shair is The Best for kid’s cuts. I first came to Naoe when my daughter was almost 5 and today my daughter is 6.5. My daughter has always had so much hair so it’s important that someone skilled cuts her hair. Naoe gives fantastic cuts and is also gentle and fun. We love her!

Love coming here, have been a customer for many years for color and haircuts. Shinji the owner is amazing and all of the staff here are lovely, highly trained and super thorough. Space has very relaxing airy vibe with the nicest people. Would recommend to anyone!!

I just had an incredible experience at SHAIR Union Square! I feel like a completely new person thanks to Naoki who gave me a Japanese Straight Perm, Single Color (for grey), and the fantastic haircut I received. The salon itself is beautifully designed with a spacious layout and a dominant white interior adorned with lush plants, creating a serene and welcoming atmosphere. But what truly sets this salon apart is the exceptional skill and consistency of the stylists. I've known Naoki for a while now, and every stylist at SHAIR is incredibly experienced and skillful, almost like a group of Avengers in the NYC Japanese hair stylist world. Their stellar reputation speaks for itself. If you're looking for a salon that not only delivers top-notch services but also provides a relaxing and rejuvenating experience, I highly recommend SHAIR.

Shuhei is literally a wizard!! I've been to five different hair stylists in the city, and no stylist has ever been as kind, patient, and compassionate as Shuhei when we were discussing my scalp/hair loss issues. We spent 15 minutes alone on the consultation part of my appointment, where he looked at my inspo pictures and discussed better options for my hair texture (thin). He spent another hour on shampooing and meticulously cutting my hair. He took the time to shape every strand, and make sure every layer was perfect. He recommended me some products at the end - not so that he could sell me anything, but out of a genuine desire to help me with my hair issues. I have SO much more volume and shape than I did before the cut. I've never been so happy with a haircut in my entire life!!! 1000/10, Shuhei is the only hair stylist I'll ever see again. 🤩
