Very child-friendly haircut facility. Each chair is a different vehicle with a small screen to help with the haircut process. There are lots of toys to play with and purchase. Highly recommend scheduling an appointment online so you are not waiting around hoping for a no-show. Prices are reasonable if your child is not comfortable yet with haircuts. It's in a strip mall type area so if you are traveling as a family one parent can hang back and the other can get some grocery shopping done.

I used to only bring my kids to Shear Madness Haircuts for Kids, and we always saw Kenna. She was amazing—gentle, interactive, and fantastic with my son, who is on the spectrum. He loved going for haircuts, and we always had a great experience. Unfortunately, since Kenna left, the experience has completely changed. Today, I brought my 4-year-old son, who has been here before for haircuts. Upon arrival, the stylist told me she couldn’t cut his hair, claiming it was too big of a 'risk.' I was shocked and deeply disappointed by the lack of understanding and support for children on the spectrum. This place used to be our go-to, but it’s clear they no longer have the staff or training to provide the inclusive, welcoming environment we once valued. I can’t recommend them anymore for families with children who have special needs.

Vivian did an excellent job with my 3 year old today. Will definitely be coming back. Good environmental, clean, friendly, and just an over all great experience for the price.

Got the Diva Day (hair, nails, and makeup) for my daughters birthday and she loved it so much! The staff was awesome and my daughter is obsessed with her hair. Very good pricing too, even on retail items! Thank you!

We have been going here for years. My kids love the fun chairs and toy shopping area. We always have Holly cut their hair and she does an excellent job! One of my kids has autism and Holly is great with him. He just got his haircut and has gotten so many compliments.

This has been our go to since moving here a couple years ago. Tamara is always so good with my kids and I love visiting with her. The kids look forward to the cars, suckers, bracelets and more! I wouldn’t take my son and daughter any where else.

We usually go to the location in Olathe but today we decided to drive out. Which was a bad decision. The worker didn’t greet me or even made eye contact since I walked in door. My son who usually LOVES his hair cut but the worker just immediately started cutting/wetting his hair without talking to him or showing him the equipment. They usually do. My son got scared and started crying. She didn’t understand the situation and just kept cutting and wetting him. I literally had to ask her to give him space to calm down. She was rushing his hair cut. I actually told her to stop. And I would pay for it as is bc he usually is well behaved. She got mad at me and suggested I don’t pay since the experience was so bad. NEVER apologize or understood me. Very bad experience she seemed upset. I didn’t need a free hair cut I just wanted a good experience like we usually have at the location in Olathe. Definitely don’t recommend if you want a cool and fun experience with your littles.

My daughter went here for her first experience, I will never take her back! The place is dirty, the staff member who was taking care of my daughter was putting things in her and used those same tools on my daughter… I’ll be surprised if kids don’t get lice. Oh they didn’t have any of their health certificates or their license hanging up, they also do not sanitize anything. The owner is also rude and dismissive, could not even issue an apology. I would be embarrassed and shamed if i owned this establishment.

Today we went in for my son’s first haircut miss Kristen was our stylist. And she was nothing short of amazing. She cared about what I wanted. She helped me decide her whole vibe was great and my son did absolutely perfect which I was shocked. He is a mama‘s boy and I thought it was going to be a difficult experience for him, but it was GREAT!! We will definitely be going back to her for sure!!

It was shocking to witness such a lack of empathy and professionalism from a supposedly reputable establishment. Customer service should encompass a willingness to work with clients, especially in situations where minor delays are inevitable. My children are 4 and 7! However, Shear Madness demonstrated a rigid and unforgiving attitude that prioritized strict adherence to schedule over basic courtesy. As a result of this disappointing experience, I cannot in good conscience recommend Shear Madness to others. Their failure to accommodate a minor inconvenience speaks volumes about their priorities and their disregard for customer satisfaction. In the future, I will be taking my business elsewhere, where a more client-centric approach is valued and practiced.

All the employees are great with the kids and are able to do the haircuts quick, fast, and good for young kids who constantly move around. The mini store they have at the entrance is great to if you are looking for any haircare products for your kid or any toys.

I was super worried about bringing my 2 year old here based on some reviews that they rush haircuts and it’s dirty. But, the space was super clean and check in was so quick! The little shopping area was a welcomed distraction while we waited for the haircut (less than 5 minutes) and while I waited in line to pay for the haircut. Courtney took her time (30 minutes) with our moving target and was super flexible. We started in an airplane and ended in a seat cuddling dad. His haircut was super even despite all the flailing. The TV was awesome. We got a sticker, lollipop, and bracelet at the end. I think the overall branding of the company could be modernized along with the salons, but overall the salon was well kept and the staff was awesome. We’ll be back!

I’ve had rather subpar experiences at this location before, but today that all changed! Kristen was truly amazing with my 3 year old daughter. She went above and beyond giving me info on how to style her hair at home, along with many other tips and tricks. She took her time, and my daughter left feeling like a princess! Highly highly recommend her specifically.

Took my 4 year old here today and he did fantastic! He got to pick out his own chair (even though it was a regular one) and watch Spider-Man while getting his hair cut which he thought was the coolest thing ever aside from the ‘super cool sonic’ in the front lobby. I also had my 2 year old with me that got to play with some toys while brother got his haircut. Both had a great time, will probably be back again!

Took my two boy here the other day the ladies were great took care of my boys and did a great job. Only down side was the xboxs both being broken my oldest was looking forward to playing while he got his hair done. Chairs could also use a little maintenance but other than that a good experience. 👍 (owner please fix your counsels or atleat notifi customers before appointment that the are all broken)

Do NOT take mixed children here. They clearly do not know how to cut curly hair. Took my 2yo son for his first haircut.His hair was quite long. Asked for the sides to be faded with a #3 on top to keep it longer but even. They did not listen to a single part of it since he looks bald with a #1 all around his head. If you don’t understand or know what you are doing say that and we can go elsewhere. We will never be back! Absolutely horrible experience steer clear if you have curly hair!!!!

I took my granddaughter to this location in Northland Kansas City, it was horrible. I was told that the stylist are able to style ethnic hair which was a lie. We came in and paid for service that we did not receive. I paid for a Diva Day with a hairstyle and got a messy nail no manicure or pedicure. Her makeup made her look like a clown. They were braiding her hair like Buckwheat, not sectioned or combs. Her hair was dirty and dry. The manager gave us a mean stare the entire time and stated that was being rude and disrespectful to one of workers in which I wasn't. I felt so unwelcome and uncomfortable. I paid for something that a 10 year old could have done. She was so upset that didn't get what she was expecting for her first salon experience. As a licensed cosmetologist, this location is not trained to style hair for Black children. Only one stylist came to help that was nice. I give the entire experience a 1/2 star. They should do better.

My daughter cut her own hair pretty dramatically and we needed some help to get it evened out. I was able to get a same day appointment and they made it look much better. We appreciated your help and the kid friendly atmosphere 👍

UPDATE: My kids got their hair cut by Jean and she did a wonderful job. We will request her again! Sadly, we didn't have a good experience getting our haircut. Hopefully, this was unusual because they get lots of business.

We tried to get appointments at two other shops because the last time we went to Shear Madness (Olathe) they did a rough job, but I figured we’d give this one a shot since it was a different location. As we walked in, a mom was angry at the stylist because the back of the cut was uneven and the stylist tried to tell her it was a cowlick (it wasn’t). Unfortunately we got the same stylist and I showed her a pretty common boys cut (shaved sides, LONG on top). My son came in with a lot of length so it shouldn’t have been an issue. Tell me why this lady cut his hair so short and unevenly that the only way to fix it would be to shave him? At the register, the manager saw it and offered to fix his bangs (since one half is up to his scalp and the other half was longer), but I said no because I didn’t want it any shorter. My poor kid left there so sad about his hair. Unfortunately, we’re just going to have to let it grow out a bit and gel it so it doesn’t look so awful. This was the final straw for Shear Madness and we’ll never be back

Zero stars if I could. I went online and booked an appointment for two of my children. The first appointment I booked was for December 31st at 12:30pm. I received confirmation texts and when I arrived for my appointment the salon was closed. There was no signage on the front door or windows indicating their hours had changed. Their Facebook page also had no information available in regards to their hours being different. I booked again for January 16th at 3pm, received confirmation email and text and the same thing happened. I’ve heard wonderful things about another salon called Laughs and Locks Haircuts for Kids and we are going to go there from now on. Shear Madness really has disappointed me with their lack of professionalism with their communication.

my fiancé, took our son to get his haircut. Our appointment was at 1:15. He said when he got there there was a lady on the phone that just totally ignored him and nobody else was there. He waited for a little bit and then he finally just told my son to go pick out a seat,  the woman from the front totally ignored him and walked to the back. He said about 5 to 10 minutes later that woman and another woman came out. One of the women had tattoos on her arms. He said he couldn’t remember her name, but she looked drugged out and started talking to my fiancé to begin my sons haircut when my son was getting Squamish because he was afraid of the clippers my fiancé asked her if they could use the clippers that are quiet I know that sounds funny, but they’ve used them before there, this is not our first time going and the lady acted like she didn’t know what he was talking about and then she asked my fiancé why my son was making funny noises and if he was OK because he kept moving around totally inappropriate first of all, you work in a business that revolves around cutting small children’s hair and a lot of those small children are afraid I was just very disappointed and if I had been there, I would’ve definitely spoken up. He just wanted to hurry up and get the haircut done he didn’t want to say anything because he didn’t want her to maybe purposely cut our son because she was frustrated or something but he said both of them were very rude and suspicious looking like they had been doing drugs and they were the only two in the shop and no other people were there 10/24/23
