Short Review: While I absolutely loved my silk press results, my experience post-service revealed just how unprofessional LaShonda truly is. What should have been a positive experience turned into unnecessary drama, with LaShonda resorting to body-shaming my friend under multiple Instagram posts. My experience went from a 5/5 to an absolute 0 honestly. Long Review: After 7 years of doing my own hair in it's curly state only, I decided to book a silk press for my birthday. I have long, thick type 4 hair and take great pride in it, so choosing someone to trust with it was big. I booked LaShonda’s new client Olaplex & silk press service for $185/ 2 hours. Since I hadn’t had my hair straightened in years, I was unsure about what to expect regarding the process. I submitted a photo of my hair—as required during booking—assuming LaShonda, an experienced stylist, would let me know if any adjustments were needed. She didn't mention any concerns, so I eagerly awaited my appt. On the day of my 10 AM appt, what was supposed to take 2 hours ended up lasting significantly longer, disrupting her schedule and mine. I felt guilty, and the feeling was reinforced by her comments throughout, such as mentioning she doesn’t do kids hair because they "have too much," and another stylist passing by saying, “You’re still at it?” to which I could hear the exhaustion in her reply. She even had to cancel one client’s appt because of the time. Being as accommodating as possible, I willingly let her pause my blow-dry to service another client, offered to buy her lunch, and paid $325 + an almost $50 tip—without hesitation. Despite the issues, I left feeling great. At the end of the appt, she requested that I email her next time for better scheduling, and I was fully on board. I spent the next few days raving to family and friends about how much I loved my hair, even recommending her to others. Since she had recorded content throughout my appointment, I was also excited to see my results on her Instagram. However, the excitement quickly faded. The 1st post had "🙄" in the caption, which I brushed off as lighthearted. The 2nd post mentioned how I "almost took her out," which I again interpreted as humorous. But the 3rd post was disappointing—she ended the video by saying I wasn’t allowed back. I initially thought it was a joke until I read the caption: “If you have enough hair for four people, don’t book with me.” Hoping she wasn’t serious, I checked the comments, where she continued to confirm I couldn't return. Seeing this was disheartening, esp after our convo in person. As someone loyal to stylists I trust, it hurt to find out via social media that I had been banned, especially when she had my cell #. I am not confrontational, so I didn’t comment or interact with the post, nor did I send my friends or family to do so. However, they were upset for me and took it upon themselves to comment. They shared their concerns, expressing how they felt her approach was rude and unprofessional, and that the least she could have done was inform me personally. Instead of responding professionally and taking the feedback, she dismissed the situation as humor and became defensive, including using profanity. She even escalated things further by attacking my friend personally, body-shaming her in the comments. She then went to my friend’s personal IG and continued leaving derogatory comments under every post. Because I have a lot of hair, I already feel self-conscious and like a burden during appts—even though this is their job and I willingly pay premium prices to get serviced. While I understand the higher fees and special booking reqs are necessary, to be banned really sucked. And to find out via IG made it worse. LaShonda’s behavior was childish, unprofessional, and beyond distasteful. This is my real-life struggle, and it was both hurtful and disrespectful. Instead of taking feedback professionally, she chose to escalate the situation with insults and immaturity. Absolutely baffling, rude, and unprofessional in every way.
