To be honest I have been going here since I first got my Locs installed but unfortunately I will not be returning after my most recent appointment. I am tired of my appointments getting pushed back, and the lack of professionalism. My most recent appointment was meant to be with Fajr for an interlocking appointment. When I arrived there, it was her mother instead. She took double the time it usually takes to do my hair ( I don’t have a full head and a person arrived after me with a full head and more locs and finished before me and I didn’t even get a style) and not only that, she did it incorrectly, and I know she did it incorrectly because she created a lot of breakage and holes in my locs because clearly she does not know how to interlock hair. My parts were all crooked and she did two repairs that actually caused more damage and breakage than good, during the time there she made rude comments about service workers as she is herself a service worker. It’s frustrating to me that I booked an appointment months in advance and it wasn’t until I was already there that I was informed that the Stylist that usually does my hair was not going to be doing my hair and it was too late for me to cancel because I had things to do. Again, I’ve been coming here for a few years, but I can no longer because of the lack of professionalism that was displayed especially during my last appointment. There are so many problems in my hair now that I have to go to a different place to get so many repairs done.

Great service. For years, I went to loc stylists who were always running hours late. My first appointment at Sophisticated Loc Salon was on time, and that's basically been my experience. Fajr and the team of stylists are professional, and the vibe is positive. They are master locticians. Fajr and Ms. Shakura have repaired several of my locs, and they look so natural and full. I'm so glad that I found this salon.

DO NOT BOOK A CROTCHET RETWIST HERE! I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience at this salon. I booked a crochet retwist service that was supposed to take 3 hours, but it ended up taking over 7 hours. It became clear that the stylist did not know how to do crochet retwists. Having had this service done at other salons before, I know what the finished product should look like. Instead of a proper crochet retwist, the stylist used a lot of gel and palm twisted my hair. To make matters worse, two days later, I noticed that my hair wasn’t actually crocheted and was already unraveling. When I called the owner to explain, she agreed to two-strand twist my hair to prevent further damage. Unfortunately, she did a poor job on the two-strand twist as well, and that is already falling apart. It has only been 4 days since my initial service, and it’s like I never got my hair done at all. I feel like I wasted both my money and precious time. I used to like this salon, but after this experience, I cannot recommend them. This situation has shown extremely poor integrity on their part.

Sophisticated Loc Salon is THE BEST LOC SALON in New York. I have never met a kinder, more professional staff than these amazing black women here. Talented doesn’t even begin to describe the work done here and their attention to detail is second to none. I first got my locs done here in May 2023 by the amazing Shaquora and I have not been to any other salon since then and I will not be going anywhere else, EVER. I used to live 20 mins away from the salon and now I have relocated to New Jersey about 2 hours away and I will wake up as early as I have to, to make sure I can be seen. I’m sitting in the chair right now getting my locs retwisted and I had to leave this review. It’s a shame there aren’t any more stars to leave on this review lol.

On a whim i googled best loc specialist near me, I live in the bed-stuy area and wanted to get my hair done for the first time by a beautician. Last min I called Sophisticated Loc salon and immediately got squeezed in by the receptionist, with a deposit of $50 to go towards my hair style i was on my way. Abidance amazing, wine and conversation amazing, laughs, authenticity and culturally embracive. What topped off my experience for me was after my full service wash and style I needed a few things to upkeep my hairstyle, right next door this mom and daughter duo opened a beauty supple store Amani's. I got my edge control, bonnet and baby hair brush all in one location! how convenient. Overall my experience was 10/10 and will recommend my loc sisters to pull up and show love.

I always come here to get my locs retwisted. It’s always a great experience. They do an awesome job. I come in with my hair looking crazy, but by the time I leave it’s so neat and healthy looking. Highly recommend!

I got loc extensions and I’m very happy with the result. This is a mother/daughter team. They were kind, professional, knowledgeable and accommodating. The salon was very clean and tastefully decorated. This was a very positive experience for me. They’re worth every single penny and more. I’d highly recommend this place.

I had an amazing experience!!. I wanted to get starter locs in my hair and I got two strand twists. The staff is very professional and very welcoming. I was so impressed with salon and the amazing products they used on my hair. I will highly recommend going here for any type of natural hairstyles you would want. My stylist gave me a list of hair products to use, how to maintain my hair and tips for my locs journey. I can’t wait to go back next month and continue my locs progress.
