This salon, specifically Victoria Carlo ruined my hair with thinning shears. I have no hair left on my head, literally 1/2 of what I walked in with: never asked if it was OK for her to completely thin out my hair. Aside from being thin and stringy my hair is completely damaged. Stay away from this stylist and this salon. She shouldn’t be allowed near anyone’s hair. Would pay the $200 to go back in time and never see her.

I've been a loyal client here for 7 years. I came in on time for my appointment and my stylist was running 20 mins late, so he had one of the junior assistants wash and dry my hair. She clearly didn't want to be there and she made that known by being rude and abrasive. She then proceeded to burn my hair and scalp by leaving the hairdryer on my head longer than necessary. I told my stylist and emailed and management. It's been over a week now and no one has responded to me. This is not the kind treatment and service you would expect for a $190 simple haircut. After 7 years of loyalty I will definitely never be coming back. I've had much better service with a $40 hair cut. Don't waste your time of your money here. Update: I'd like to note with regards to their response that they did not know I had a flight to catch (8 hours later) until I was leaving. Also It's been almost 4 months and they still haven't responded to my email or reached out.

Carmen is the very best hair colorist I’ve ever been to. I get non stop compliments on her work and it’s high quality so it lasts. I’ve gone to her for years, and she’s done everything from dark brown to platinum on me. She even did my hair color for my wedding. It doesn’t matter what you ask for she always makes it look amazing. Hair cuts and colors are handled by different staff but every staff member is very skilled and friendly. Best hair place in NYC hands down.

I have been going to Yvonne for color for YEARS at S&W. She's taken me from rich burgundy to buttery blonde to pink to platinum and every color in-between. (FYI: today, we're going copper!) Yvonne is super professional and skilled and I trust her with my long locks without question. She knows her hair, so when she says it might take a few tries to get the color you want without drying and damaging your hair, you best listen! I also highly recommend Karen M (I still remember that electric razor bob... loved that cut so much), D'Angelo, and Akeem for haircuts. Everyone I've sat in a chair for at S&W has been amazing. Great vibes and stellar talent and experience. I have never ever left the salon looking and feeling anything but spectacular.

My ultimate conclusion: my stylist, Kevin Martin, is THE BOMB! 10/10 service. The ambiance and aesthetic in the salon was absolutely fabulous. The attitude, composure, and altogether "vibe" of Kevin was warm, welcoming, and relatable. And the final outcome? I walked out of my appointment with my hair looking (and feeling) the best it has ever in my entire life. I have found my hairstylist (and salon) for life! I cannot recommend Kevin enough, he is the star of Spoke & Weal!

worst most overpriced haircut ever. they hacked off my hair, it’s uneven and they gave me more split ends. i’ve gotten a better haircut for $10 at great clips. i didn’t even know it was possible for my hair to look this awful

Let me first say that I am so picky with where and who I get my hair cut with. With a lot of extensive research, I came across Akeem’s profile and let me tell you, my guy did not disappoint. I had such a good experience, from my hair wash, hair cut and style, that I almost want to gatekeep his talent but he’s too skilled not to share. So if you’re in New York and you need a killer haircut, Akeem at Spoke and Weal is your place.

I had a terrible case of "Covid hair" after having gone without a haircut or trim for more than a year. My hair was down to my butt and looked frayed and lifeless. Even in NYC, it can be difficult to find a stylist who loves long hair and who is also experienced with highly textured hair types. Luckily, Akeem is the master of the long-layered haircut and handles highly textured hair like it's nothing! Akeem (@Akeemkilledit) gave me that perfect haircut -- the type that makes your hair look ridiculously bouncy like in those 90s shampoo commercials, while simultaneously being chic and effortless. Akeem was punctual to the minute -- my appointment started at exactly the scheduled time. From the initial consultation to the final styling, he was attentive and extremely meticulous. Before cutting anything, he made certain that he had precisely the length that I wanted my hair to be. After he finished cutting my hair, Akeem showed me the end result and asked if I wanted anything changed or adjusted -- and that I was 100% happy with everything. If you're a long haired person who is anxious about haircuts, you can rest assured that this guy will cut exactly how much you want -- no more and no less. As a person, Akeem is simply a great guy -- he is friendly, funny, and genuinely passionate about his craft. My hair is some 8-10 inches shorter -- while still being really long(!), my frayed "rat tail" ends are finally gone, and I couldn't be happier with my new haircut!

Interior is modern, they have ceiling power so you aren't tripping on cords, Addison is my stylist and makes just enough conversation, everyone helps each other out and thanks each other. Overall you feel you are part of the community taking care of your hair which always feels healthier when leaving.

My hair stylist was Akeem (his IG is @Akeemkilledit if you want to check him out). He was so friendly and nice! Akeem was super attentive and made sure everything was the length I wanted. I loved how he made sure I was comfortable with everything the whole time. I had a general idea of what type of cut I wanted but wasn't too sure. Akeem made some suggestions based on my current hair and the reference photos I sent and just WOW! I love my new hair! My hair feels lighter and the cut was exactly what I wanted and better thanks to Akeem! My appointment was also right on time so I didn't need to sit there waiting. The salon overall was very clean and the staff was very professional! Thank you again Akeem!
