This is only the second business review I've ever written, but I simply couldn't not considering the absolutely HORRIBLE experience I recently had getting my hair done here. I used to go to Stage when I lived in the city before COVID, so know the stylists and have always had a good experience, but after this I will not be returning and recommend anyone else to NOT go here, particularly if you are a young woman solo. The whole thing was a mess from start to finish. First, despite providing them with my updated contact details in advance as requested, I was not informed that they had changed locations (no trace on Google) which meant I had to buy an umbrella to walk an extra 20 minutes in the rain to get to their new site. About half an hour before the end of a 3 hour appointment for highlights the woman approached me and said 'Oh, just to let you know we are cash only now because we decided to stop accepting cards post COVD.' I told her I had no idea as I had always paid with card at the salon and wasn't informed ahead of time of the change so didn't have cash (who carries 300$ for no reason?) For context, I had just moved back to the city 2 days earlier so was still in the process of transferring cash to my new US bank account. I told her I had my credit card, or Paypal, or else would happily return the following morning with the cash and some extra for the inconvenience, as they know me and I have been a regular client. The nice facade went out the window immediately, with both the man and woman working in the salon beginning to act very aggressively. I was told that the only way I would be allowed to leave was if I gave them my laptop and ID. When I refused, saying I did not feel this was safe, they threatened to call the police on me or have the boss 'come find me.' As a single woman in her early 20s who lives one street away and whose contact information is on file with the salon, this was pretty terrifying. I tried 4 separate ATMs in the rain over a 45 minute period at 9pm at night to try and get them the cash but either they were out of service, or wouldn't dispense the cash due to a fraud alert. I took pictures and returned to the salon each time very calmly to try and continue to troubleshoot how to get them the cash in that moment. By this point it was pitch black outside, and I was alone with them in the salon not able to leave. Eventually, they gave in and allowed me to send the money via Paypal to one of the stylists and let me leave, but the whole thing was very unnerving. As soon as the money had landed in his account the tone immediately changed again, with him touching my arm and trying to play off the past hour of bullying and intimidating behavior saying things like 'Oh I'm sorry for this little understanding, it's not our fault' xyz...not a chance. This doesn't even mention the fact that the man washing my hair spilled peroxide saturated water all down the back of my jumper, leaving it completely stained and ruined. Very very worrying and uncomfortable experience and I would absolutely not return.

The absolute BEST!! I’ve been going to this salon for a few years now and Merlyn always does a phenomenal job. I get compliments on my highlights all the time and she is just the sweetest. She is quick and professional, I trust her implicitly with my hair. I shopped around for a little while before I found her and I haven’t looked back! Highly, highly recommend. Thank you Merlyn!!

Marlyn was very helpful and gave me highlights that I wanted. The only problem was the cigarette smell all over the salon, they told me that it comes from outside and from upstairs people. Other than the smell, it's all good

Made an online appt on their website, and received confirmation via email and via text message for same day blow out. I took an uber so I could be on time to my appt, which I was, and the salon was closed. I mean not in process of closing, but lights out and gate down as if it never opened that day. Emailed and texted the salon to complain about accepting & confirming same day appt, while being closed. In addition, complained to them via email about the cost of my uber and waste of my time. **Crickets** Still waiting to hear back for acknowledgement, explanation, and an apology. It's been over a week, and I've been going to this salon routinely for over a year. Nice Customer Service- NOT!

I think I found my salon in NYC :) I love the service here. Bevis does a great job with my hair, and it is very knowledgeable about what color goes better with my skin. highly recommended !

Had the worst experience at this Salon today!! BEWARE!!!!!! I purchased from groupon thinking I got a great deal only to realize I was being charged $50 extra for toner/glossing!! Meryln who worked there had such terrible customer service and refused to do my highlights unless I paid the extra fees and used her extra products that I did not want!! She told me that she wouldn’t know how to do the highlights if I didn’t pay the extra $50 what kind of hair professional would say that?! I asked for regular highlights without the extra products or glossing. Don’t push customers into something they don’t want done on their hair!!! Save your money and time people. There are plenty of other salons who will understand what you actually want! HORRIBLE!! Walked right out of the salon and luckily groupon refunded me.

Merlyn is amazing here, gives me the perfect hair every time. Whether it's for highlights, balayage, keratin treatments, blowouts or haircuts, she can make it happen. The salon is small, but comfortable, modern and clean.

The salon environment is very clean. They are very affordable in east village location for balayage work and do a great job. They are a big company have many location in Manhattan is a place you can trust.

Merlyn at this location has been my stylist for years now. She's extremely attentive and patient with my hair and I've always received compliments where ever I go. With all the constant hair dying and daily flat iron and curling iron use, a visit to Merlyn can magically make my hair shiny and alive again. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
