I’m very protective over my hair, and I hadn’t had it cut in a very long time, and I couldn’t have found a better salon or stylist than Jazz! I have medium thickness slightly wavy hair, for reference. She gave wonderful recommendations and advice for how to care for both the cut and my hair, as well as really listening to what I wanted and altering my cut to fit what I imagined exactly. This is the most heard I have ever felt at a salon. Consent is highly valued here. The cut Jazz created was absolutely masterful as well, this long shag is incredibly easy to style and looks amazing every way I look at it. She helped problem solve with me when we ran into a cowlick I forgot I had, stopped and listened when I didn’t love how the curl pattern made me feel and experimented until I adored it. I walked out feeling SO hot. My girlfriend said I even carry myself with more confidence. If you’re looking for a change, I couldn’t recommend Jazz more. On a person to person level, thats also just one earnest, kind, and intentional person. She is a joy to talk with while in the chair. TLDR; Jazz is a great person and stylist, my transformation cut was a big leap I couldn’t be happier with. My hair suits me, is more hydrated, and so much easier to take care of because I visited Starling. I’ll be a regular from now on!

This salon is fabulous! I wanted my hair bleached and dyed pink, which is a long process with my very thick mane… Jazz did such an amazing job, it honestly looks better than I could have imagined. She is extremely talented and very sweet! The vibes and aesthetic here are immaculate 💖 highly recommend!

I have been a client of Luci’s for a while, and feel so lucky to have found her. During the past couple years, she has taken me from long layers to a pixie to a French bob (my favorite). She is amazing with color, even for us lazy people that only touch up twice per year. I also love the space of this salon - it’s peaceful, artsy and has so many vintage pieces that are fun to look at. Thank you!

My first time in today to see Luci! One of the best haircuts ever! Luci spent time getting to know my hair and my needs and checked in with me multiple times during the cut to ensure it was to my liking. Luci’s demeanor, professionalism and kindness helped make me feel comfortable. I truly love the cut! Luci is a talented artist.

There are not enough good things I could say about this salon and about JD themselves. From the welcoming and inclusive environment to the pure creativity and care that JD has for hairstyling, there isn’t a better stylist out there. I have gone from bleach blonde to red back and forth for several years now and JD has not only insured the quality of my hair, but they have always taken creative approaches to get me the desired color. Even if you have a rough, hazy idea of the cut or style you want, JD can make it happen. I also have friends that have different hair textures than myself (I have fine, straight hair) and the skill and technique of this salon has always been diverse. No matter who you are or what type of hair you have, this is truly a place worthy of your time, trust, and business!

I have gone to JD for about 3 (almost 4) years now ever since I moved to Seattle. They’re an unbelievably skilled and creative hairdresser! Their artistic eye is incredible, and the salon space is beautiful with its antique golden mirrors, velvet furniture, and the plethora of plants and oddities lining the walls. I’ve loved every haircut and color I’ve gotten from them, and they’ve transformed my hair many times from my virgin long brown hair to long dark green hair to my now short black two block haircut. Would highly recommend you go to JD for any hair needs, but especially if you want a badass gender-affirming cut :) the other stylists are lovely as well and equally as skilled and talented! So happy this salon exists — it’s full of friendly inclusive people

After decades of living with pencil straight hair that was easy for me to maintain, medical treatments caused the texture of my hair to change to extremely dry + wavy, a complete 180. I tried for a year to figure it out myself, but I needed help, + a stylist that understood not only wavy hair, but the emotions + stress that come from dealing with a medically-induced change. Luci is that human. She’s supportive, honest, candid + open to discussion on what I want as well as how I will actually take care of my hair on a day to day basis. Her aura is calming, delightful + safe. There have definitely been moments where I’ve unexpectedly broken down + gotten nothing but support + even a time out in the middle of an appointment for me to reset + breathe. I’m not one that’s used to (or wants to) spend hours everyday on my hair using a whole army of products + rituals. And Luci respects that, helping me fine a way to make these new lovely locks work for me. I cannot recommend this salon + Luci enough. They are inclusive, accepting, welcoming + extremely knowledgeable.

What a wonderful experience! For starters, the space itself is so gorgeous and welcoming. Seating is body inclusive and comfortable. My stylist was Nina and she was so professional and yet also perfectly human. I had my consultation which left me feeling confident. The communication was excellent- expected price, listening to what I wanted, even remembered live nearby and let me know I could take my time arriving as the bus was a few minutes behind which I truly appreciated. Nina knew exactly how to manage my hair. I am so thankful for a cut that maintains my length but lets my layers blend in a more flowy manner. The color is just what I was searching for. So glad I trusted my hair in these very capable hands, and look forward to my return🙌

Found Nina when looking for curly hair specialists here in Seattle. Among the best decisions I've ever made. Had such a great time in the salon chatting and the haircut is immaculate. Nina gave me a ton of recommendations for care and Styling and different ways to wear the cut. I can't stop smiling every time I see my new haircut and the cut was so good I couldn't even make it home before someone complimented it. Would recommend Nina to anyone with curly hair who wants a great cut.

Not only is the salon absolutely gorgeous, Nina gave me possibly the best curly cut I’ve ever had! She talked me through every choice and asked for input frequently, and it’s even growing out beautifully. A completely delightful experience!

I followed my stylist, Luci, to her new location. The space itself is adorable and chock full of so many cute details. Luci is one of the only people I fully trust with my hair. Her vivid work is great, and I always get compliments on her cut and coloring!

I love Jazz Brickhouse! I just recently had my second cut from her, and both haircuts have been just what I asked for, and styled really well when I left the salon. I have naturally coarse, curly, wavy, frizzy hair and I’ve learned that not every stylist knows how to choose the right products for me or how to style it and dry it after a cut, but Jazz definitely does! I have left her chair feeling so fresh and sexy. I also just find Jazz to be so warm and welcoming, and was super charmed that she reached out a week after my last cut to see how I was liking my hair. I’m already looking forward to my next appointment.

After moving to Capitol Hill a few months ago, I wanted to find a salon closer to me. A friend recommended Starling Salon, and after looking through their stylists’ bios & instagrams, I landed on booking an appt with Jazz. She was very warm & welcoming, listened thoroughly to what I wanted, and gave me the cutest shag haircut. Plus, the salon is stunning! Highly recommend.

I couldn’t recommend this place more!! I started seeing Jazz at another location and followed her over to this new space. She is so gifted when it comes to shaggy cuts and all things curly hair. I fully trust her and she helped me get the hair of my dreams. The talent alone is enough to want to come here and then there is the space. The space is perfect. It is so warm and inviting. The colors, the decorations- it is maximalism done so well. Every where you look is something new and fun to look at but it feels so cohesive with one another. It feels thoughtful and a real reflection of the talent in the room. I am so excited to see where they take this space and highly encourage anyone to come.

I had a great experience at Starling Salon Collective! The space is beautifully decorated and cozy. I have been getting my hair cut by Luci for a while and she is so good at what she does!! I have wavy to curly hair and I have struggled to get haircuts that suit my hair texture in the past but Luci nails it every time!! The vibe is totally non-judgmental and supportive and I feel very comfortable getting my hair cut here as a queer and gender nonconforming person!

I had the absolute pleasure of getting my hair transformation done by Jazz. It was the best salon experience I have ever had. She took the time to understand what type of haircut I was looking for, made sure to check in often to make sure I liked the length & how it was looking throughout the process, & she even took the time to teach me ways on how I can style and care for my hair when I asked! This was a spontaneous decision to get a haircut during my birthday weekend in Seattle (I’m from California). I didn’t have high expectations on getting a response for availability since it was a very last minute decision and I knew people would be booked for the weekend already, but luckily Jazz responded to my inquiry & squeezed me in! The staff were all very nice and so sweet, the space was beautiful and you automatically feel a sense of safety in the environment. The best part is that I will be able to continue to see Jazz to maintain my hair since she comes out to California often for her clients out here! This could not have been more perfect for me.

I've been seeing JD for 4 years now, and I can't recommend them enough! From haircuts to blowouts, full color, and balayage, I can always trust a trip to Starling. I’ve had bangs for a long time, and JD made upkeep easy. My go-to has been a shag haircut, but recently I’ve opted for long, layered styles. The process is truly collaborative; if I’m ever unhappy with my look, JD listens and makes it right. The space is warm and welcoming, and I love the shop pets. Prices are fair, and JD's personal touch makes every visit special.

Luci is a fantastic hairstylist. She takes the time to check in on my hair goals (I’m growing it out), and checks in frequently during the haircut to make sure she understands my preferences before moving forward with cutting more or reducing density. She’s super knowledgeable and shares tips for managing my hair type in a way that’s easy to understand and helps me make informed choices re: products, etc. for my wavy-curly hair. I feel listened to and educated at the same time! The Starling space is gorgeous and cozy, and parking is generally easy to find.

This salon is stunning and Jazz is the BEST. She’s warm and easy-going, soooo good at lived-in color & cuts, and she elevates my ideas with suggestions of her own. My hair has never looked better!!
