Queer friendly gem tucked in on Main St Manayunk. The storefront is Hero Complex, hair and massage services are in the back and upstairs. Mandy takes great care of my hair color, cut and style, and Jere's massage therapy skills are not to be missed. The whole crew at Starshine and Hero Complex are amazing humans I am delighted to know.

I got a massage with Mike, who was so friendly, attentive, and great at what he does! I walked in with general stress all over, and Mike was able to identify knotted up muscle I didn't know I had and work it all out! He checked in with me on pressure throughout, and had great techniques involving stretching, soft muscle movement while massaging, and a real talent for making your whole body feel like soup. 10/10, I can't wait to come back!

I recently got a massage by Jere, one of two new massage therapists at Starshine. She was a very talented and personable masseuse and I felt like a million bucks afterward. Can't wait to visit again. Reasonable prices, too!

I needed a haircut and live in the area and checked it out. Mandy was awesome and did a great job on the cut!! I also had her shape my eyebrows! 10/10 :)

Su-Shan and her team are some of the absolute best in the industry! I have gone to many salons, and Starshine Salon is one of the few places that feel like they truly care about me. The atmosphere is upbeat and lacking any mental toxicity or stress. I've been going to Mandy for a while now. She mixes up a delightful custom color to match whatever flavour my hair will be that season! Each appointment, she has expertly done vibrant colors and given me a stylish cut. And, because of her attention, my hair feels healthier than it's been in years!

These babes know what's up. The place is cool. The staff is friendly, kind, and extremely accommodating. And I got one of the best cuts/highlights I've ever had there. Su-Shin is an absolute delight and did a beautiful job. 10/10. Would recommend.

Had my eye on Starshine for awhile and finally decided to check it out after getting a bad haircut elsewhere that I was desperate to get fixed. Megan was really astute in figuring out what I wanted remedied. She really worked some magic, in the process giving me the best haircut I've had since the pandemic began. Really quick, friendly service that's reasonably priced for its Main Street location, plus the salon itself is very cute and cozy. Looking forward to future visits!

I had my first appointment at Starshine today with Megan, and it was my first appointment overall at a salon. I was nervous in general it being my first salon experience and I have naturally wavy hair. My hair looked amazing afterwards, and was better than what I could have imagined, very fresh and flattering to my hair & face type. The entire experience was welcoming and cozy! I felt like she listened to my questions and input every step of the way. It was more than I could have asked for and I highly recommend this salon!

I just got the best haircut of my life from this salon. My pandemic hair was out of control and I just couldn't deal with it anymore, so I emailed to request their first available appointment. I was worried it would be a while before they had an opening seeing as they're so popular but was able to schedule an appointment with Megan just about a week out. I was a little nervous seeing a new stylist since I was going from longer hair to a pretty short bob, but Megan was EXTREMELY personable, thoughtful and talented. She was able to recreate — and improve on, honestly — a bob I'd had years ago just based on a few pictures. Better yet, the rates are really reasonable considering what some salon's charge. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone!

Went in for a non-binary haircut that took less than an hour. Got charged for a woman’s cut price without any question from the hairstylist. I’m not sure why they even put non-binary on their list if they don’t follow that. Felt like I expressed that I wanted minimal layers but they were cut too high and too many. Overall okay haircut, but price is pretty high, for feeling like I wasn’t listened to about layer length and my non-binary identity

Can’t recommend enough! Megan did a great job handling my thick and wavy hair and my hair has never been this low maintenance in my life. This review is long overdue since I got my hair cut with Megan a few months ago, but the fact that I’m still enjoying the aftermath of that haircut reminded me that the world needs to know how great this place is! I will definitely be back! Plus the comic shop in the front is cool too.

I recently had my hair cut and on a separate appointment colored by Megan one of the stylists at the Starshine. Megan was thorough with the consultation, making sure she understood my needs and desired outcome. I didn’t feel rushed at all, but the services were very timely. I felt at ease in the salon because it wasn’t some big pretentious salon. Megan was friendly and warm. She was happy to chat with me but silence felt comfortable as well. she was focused on her work even while chatting and i never felt like she was wasting time. My hair is very long and wavy/somewhat curly. I’ve had many poor experiences with other stylists but Megan did an amazing job with the cut. With the color she whipped together a concoction of color to make sure it was exactly what i wanted. i don’t know what she did to my hair but my hair looks like dolls hair - in the best way possible ! it’s literally never looked or felt so smooth. the color is full of depth and variation in shades that i’ve never seen on my hair before. Megan gave me my confidence back after not having my hair cut or colored in over two years. The prices seemed extremely fair, especially given the pandemic I am more than happy to pay whatever for these services. please be sure to tip your service providers handsomely !! I recently moved to the area and feel so thankful to have found such an amazing stylist !! I will absolutely be returning.

I wanted to get my hair done before the New Year and I was nervous about going to a new salon. I was honestly coming in with low expectations of walking out with the exact color and cut that I had in my mind because I have been asking for the same thing at different salons and it’s never been exactly how I wanted it. Maybe I haven’t been explaining it well the other times but Megan got it SPOT ON. I asked for (lots of) highlights to overall brighten my hair without having to dye my whole head. I had screenshots and she really listened to what I wanted. Megan was really thorough even with my EXTREMELY thick hair. She took the time to section and tease very small sections of my hair to get the blended look that I wanted. It took about 2.5 hours just to get all the foils in! I loved how consistent she was with checking the foils and making sure the color wasn’t too off from the ones that had already been processing for hours. I felt so bad for the thickness of my hair and how long my appointment was taking but I never once felt rushed or that she would be annoyed with how thick my hair was. Getting to the salon was a little odd because I was not expecting it to be in the back of a comic store but it felt so cozy and welcoming. I will definitely be back!!

I recently had my hair cut by Megan, Starshine's new stylist. It was my first time at Starshine and I am so very pleased. Megan really listened to me and made sure that I was happy. She also proposed some ideas to liven up the cut, which I really appreciate. As a low-maintenance hair person who is open to new ideas, I loved "strategizing" with her and hearing her thoughts - after all, she is the professional and knows hair 1000 times better than I do! We also had a great chat that she let me lead - I very much felt like we could have talked or not talked and she would go with the mood that I set. So if you're a talker, great! If not, that's cool too. Thank you Megan for the amazing cut and experience! I will definitely be returning. I also wanted to add that this salon is doing a great job with infection prevention measures during COVID. This was a top priority for me and I felt very safe!

Megan was so awesome! I just moved to the area and I’ve been looking for a good salon and she exceeded my expectations. I got my hair colored and a pretty major haircut. The color came out beautifully, and the cut was perfect - and I have some pretty crazy curly hair! I haven’t felt this good about my hair in a long long time - if you’re in the Philly area and are looking for a salon, this is the place to go.
