Best hair studio in the city. Everyone here is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Whether you’re getting new color, cut, or just a style for an event it’s the best place to go. I’ve been seeing both Courtney and Stephanie for years and wouldn’t dream of going anywhere else.

I can’t possibly say enough wonderful things about Lauren and Studio Noir ❤️!!! I’d given up on my search to find someone I trusted to take care of my hair in Chicago (and resorted to flying home to LA to get cut/color instead) but as a last minute recommendation from a friend, decided to try Studio Noir and Lauren. Oh my goodness...one of the best decisions I’ve made since living in this city!!! Lauren is so insanely skilled at color, cuts, and is just an overall joy and light to be around. Recommend this fabulous gal and Studio!!! 💕💕💕

I have been seeing Stephanie and Lauren (for cut and color respectively) since somewhere around 2012, and honestly, I would follow them all over the city (and I have!). A little bit about me, I'm a female with short, naturally blonde hair that I like to make a little more blonder than it really is. And if you know anything about either of those things, then you know it's super important that you get the right cut and that the color is done right so that, in between appointments, you're still looking fabulous. No matter if Lauren is doing highlights (what I used to get) to full, dark color (that I tried once and it wasn't really me), or full on bleached, everything she does is magic. And, she always listens to what I want done, and is always certain to make sure that I leave happy. Seriously, if you're trying to find a colorist who is also a magician, Lauren is your woman. Stephanie is brilliant. Short hair looks like it would be simple, but based on the non-Stephanie hair cuts I've had that were not so great, it's not as easy as it looks. I've done short-ish, to pixie short, and I've always been happy with what we've done. I really feel that when I'm sitting in her chair that she wants my hair to look as good as I do. And the best part of the Stephanie/Lauren combo is that my hair grows out great, too. While the style changes or roots may grow, I always feel that it's just the evolution of my hairstyle over the weeks, not something that I'm wanting to hide with a hat. Every time I leave the salon, I say, I love my hair. And if you go there, I promise, you will, too.

Lauren (Elle) has been my stylist/colorist for over 5 years and I’m so glad she opened up her own salon! She is by far the best hair stylist in Chicago!! Also extra bonus points if you are a blonde; she is a a blonde guru!!

Studio Noir (formerly Boutique Noir) is a charming salon located just off Michigan Ave. The atmosphere is great, their décor is inviting, but best of all the girls in the salon are friendly and very talented! Courtney has been my stylist for many years in the city and I love to come in and say "change my color today!" Courtney takes my challenge every time, she has the names and numbers all of the colors memorized and can create color combinations just to my liking. I appreciate her honest advice about whether a color or cut will look good with my hair, and I love that she has been able to tame my wild, frizzy, curly hair for many years. I would highly recommend Studio Noir Salon to anyone who is looking for a new stylist. Each stylist seems to have their own specialty and talent, but all do great work, so you can't go wrong!

Courtney has been coloring and cutting my hair since 2011, and my life is better for it! Her approach has always been to achieve a look in the healthiest way for my hair as possible. She’s understanding of what I want and has a tremendous knowledge base. Also, I always wanted to have that salon where I could go and everyone knew my name and everyone talked in a welcoming manner. This is it! Stephanie and Lauren are also great stylists, as I’ve watched their clients over the last 2 years as well. The atmosphere here is the best when you’re sitting in a chair for 3 hours.

I have been seeing Courtney Olson for 6 years and do not trust my blond color with anyone else. She’s educated, knowledgeable, and I always leave the salon feeling amazing. Highly recommend!!!

I originally found Elle at a different salon 7 years ago through yelp after quite a bit of research. Before moving to Chicago I had lived on three different continents and had gotten haircuts and colors in major cities such as New York City, Berlin, Germany, and Sydney, Australia. Not one of the stylists I have seen has been as talented, precise, and fun and easy to talk to as Elle. If you are looking for the best haircut/color in Chicago go to see Elle at Studio Noir! Tip: If you have a specific look in mind bring in a picture. She is great at recreating looks you show her in magazines or online.

I've been a loyal client of Stephanie's for a few years now - my quirk is that I don't like to get my hair cut often, and Stephanie's cuts look great the moment I walk out the door, and keep looking great up to three months later. She knows exactly what she's doing, is unfailingly friendly, and is a connoisseur of live music... what more could you ask?

I've been seeing Courtney for the last seven years. I moved away for a while and experimented with other salons only to realize very quickly that no one else has Courtney's particular combination of skills with color and cut. I have fine, curly hair and a strong desire to experiment with cut and color (example: I love the look of bangs, which is a terrible idea for someone who has fine curls and no desire to spend time styling her hair!). Over the years, Courtney has worked her magic to ensure that each particular style she gives me suits my skin tone, facial features, personality and lifestyle. I feel like I always walk away with the best version of whatever insane idea/suggestion I walked in with. She always takes the time to listen and remembers personal details from ages ago, which always makes me feel both welcome and heard. I highly recommend her to anyone who is looking for a true professional who can navigate curls, color and style with a phenomenal sense of humor and a calming personality!!

Courtney has been my stylist for years. I have fine/thin hair, and she always knows how to cut my hair to get the style I want and still have it looking full and healthy. I’ve done a variety of colors with her, too, and she’s always spot on. It grows out nicely (she’s great at camouflaging grays!), and it always looks natural. She’ll talk you through the process to make sure you’re getting the cut and color you want, and she is also a great resource for those times you want change, but you’re not quite sure what you want to do.

Studio Noir (formerly Boutique Noir) is the best! Lauren has done my hair for years. I have gone from long hair halfway down my back to shoulder length with bangs to short pixie-ish locks and everywhere in between, and it always looks good. She offers suggestions and is very detailed, making sure you get a great cut and the style you want. I’ve never been disappointed.

I went to Courtney for a haircut after rave reviews from a good friend with great hair. What I love about Courtney is that she really takes the time to look at your hair and what suits you. She's precise and thoughtful and I initially made a change because I felt that my previous stylist cut my hair quickly without thought and just took my money. I also have been bad about going to get my hair cut regularly and meeting with her definitely encourages me to do so.
