Alex was a perfect host for someone new to the city! They were incredibly welcoming and their salon is so warm and cozy. My hair not only got a much needed refresh, but I was also treated to great conversation! I would highly recommend this salon to anyone looking for that little bit of extra care and attention!

TLDR: Welcoming, eclectic space with features that make it more accessible for fat people and the LGBTQ+ community. Van is very skilled in color theory and knowledgeable in the needs of curly hair and how to keep it healthy during the dyeing process. Definitely recommend. OVERALL: This is the first time I've ever left a salon really feelin' myself. Wonderful experience and exposure to exquisite professional expertise. My consultation was extensive and as someone unsure of exactly what I wanted when I'd arrived, Van treated me with patience and provided me a plethora of ideas. I had hoped the experience would feel collaborative and it did the entire time. I have long, fine, curly hair with some scalp sensitivity and Van was able to navigate these characteristics in the processes of trimming, coloring, washing, and styling. He checked in with me often and ensured that I was understanding each part of the process, as I had many questions throughout. Van was a great communicator and his work speaks for itself. I cannot recommend him more highly. The environment is eclectic (as shown in the photos) and reflects the personability I felt in the space. There was a refreshments bar, including *excellent* coffee, snacks, and other beverages. I had the option of choosing from a series of streaming apps to watch or music. ACCESSIBILITY: The building has a series of suites, of which Switchblade Salon is a among. It is located up a flight of metal stairs with rails on both sides. There do not seem to be other options for accessing the second floor. The salon suite is right at the top of the stairs. I cannot say exactly, but the height of the individual stairs seems a teeny bit higher than average. Not debilitatingly so, but notably. Parking is in a localized lot in front of and behind the building, with what appears to be adequate parking for the number of occupied suites. If not occupied, there is parking directly in front of the staircase, offering minimal walking. Even so, the lots (front and back) are small and walking to access the building is limited. Lighting was bright, but not florescent or excessive like at many of the mainstream salons. All the chairs had arms, but were wide enough that I didn't feel particularly uncomfortable as a larger bodied person. I found the space comfortable for someone plus-sized, with adequate space to move about without bumping into things despite the small suite. There were thoughtful details fat people will appreciate, such as the larger robe size and footstools for comfort while sitting for long periods. As mentioned above, there were plenty of beverage options and snacks. The space was clean with no discernable scent of product or freshening agent. Temp was comfortable, which is sometimes a challenge for me personally as I tend to run warm. I did not access the restroom during my appointment, but it appears to have been located en suite.

Alex at Switchblade Salon provides INCREDIBLE mens cuts! They take the time to listen and understand exactly what you’re looking for, and I’ve been so happy with the results. Also, the salon vibes, decor, and atmosphere are so unique and make you feel right at home. Truly the best hair-care experience I’ve ever had!

The space is so cozy and welcoming, and the stylists are awesome. Alex was so wonderful! An LGBTQ+ run salon with express support of trans people is such a rarity, and I've found it in Switchblade. Highly recommend!

Best salon experience EVER I've been bouncing around salons forever, finally settling on my cousin just doing my hair at home. I went in for a haircut since I wanted something more dramatic and I was definitely not let down. Immediately when I walked in, I loved the vibe of the salon, and I felt so welcome. I had an appointment with Alex but Van also gave me some great advice and consultation on my dyed hair. Service was unmatched, my hair is so so adorable and they were extremely reasonably priced. I will be going back for sure!

Van is a master at what they do. I will follow Van anywhere they go! My hair looks like a dream come true. Always so so kind and caring. The salon feels like home! It’s where I want to be. It’s cozy, comforting, safe and sooo cute. But the hair? Always a 10/10. ✨highly recommended✨

Alex did an amazing job on my hair! It's been so long since I had a cut I was fully happy with. They're incredibly friendly and welcoming and the salon is so cozy and comfortable. It was well worth the half hour drive to get my hair done by Alex, and I'll definitely be going back 💜

Alex is an amazing, thoughtful, intuitive, engaging artist. Even if it's a challenge to verbalize exactly what you'd like, Alex takes the time to understand so you both are on the same page. Switchblade Salon is a welcoming, safe, accepting, and truly joyous location for all your hair needs. I feel certain I've found a long term stylist and I am thrilled for that individual to be Alex.

Alex went absolutely above and beyond my expectations! This place is wonderful - from the decorations, to the chill vibes, to Alex being an incredible stylist and very kind and personable. It’s been hard finding a stylist who knows how to do short styles on my hair type, but Alex did exactly what I wanted to a T. They are a godsend and I 100% recommend them!

I am posting a review under my husbands account/ I have followed Sara from a former salon she worked at. Truly she is in her element at Switchblade. Such good vibes I get from this beauty parlor. The owner is a joyful individual as well. Now for Sara’s magic sorcery as I like to call it. She has TRANSFORMED MY HAIR TO ABSOULTE majesty. Not being dramatic just saying the truth. You will not be disappointed she listens to what you want, makes suggestions if such can not be done at the time(like going brunette to platinum blonde in one sitting). She is the only person I trust with my hair to color and cut. Only. :) client for 2 plus years

The only bad thing I can say is it takes forever to get an appointment 😭 Otherwise very friendly and helpful, super nice and very talented ☺️ If you need to do an appointment on a weekend you're basically stuck with 2-3 months out.

Update***I started going to this salon when Melinda owned it. She was a friend and a great stylist. Now that Alex has taken it over I'm equally impressed. They have made it their own in such a beautiful & inspiring way! And, they are also a wonderful hair stylist!
