Bear is amazing! I have very curly hair and it is hard to find someone who can work with it. Bear gave lots of hair care and product advice as well, which was nice. The wash is worth it! Like a head massage! If you come here, make an appointment with Bear!!!

UPDATED: I brought my daughter for her 4th birthday thinking we would get her a trim and let her experience the magic of Jillian. When we got there Jillian surprised her (with my consent) with beautiful tinsel options for her hair and my daughter was beyond excited. My daughter had never been to a salon before and was pretty shy that day, but Jillian’s sweet, calm and accepting nature made the experience comfortable. At the end, Jillian offered to curl my daughter’s hair which was a huge treat. My favorite part was when Jillian gave my daughter her very own “you are beautiful” sticker. Society can pull these girls in so many ways, but this is the perfect place for little girls to discover their beauty! Jillian is the BEST—she has such an intuitive way of cutting hair. I haven’t found this anywhere else in Reno. I always leave this place feeling and looking more authentically myself than when I came. I first came to Jillian after years of resisting the natural curl/color of my hair. The result of this was dry and damaged hair. After brainstorming (and having a ton of fun) during the new client consult with Jillian, I left embracing my curl/gray hairs. I also felt empowered regarding how to recreate my new style at home because I was given written instructions on exactly how to do it and given a tutorial while at the shop! This girl thinks of everything—another thing she does is slaps (with a big smile) a “you are beautiful” sticker on you as you are leaving. My little girl often asks for my sticker when I get home and the message just seems to hit differently when I see her wearing it. You are such a beautiful human being, Jillian! I’m so lucky that I met you and the cherry on top is that I love my hair and the person I see when I look in the mirror! I’ll be grateful for the impact you’ve had on me and other women/girls who are desperate to tap into a deeper version of themselves 💜

Bear is INCREDIBLE!!! i am not used to getting my hair done and usually just let it go do it’s own thing, i’m very intimated by salons and often feel judged in the hairstyle i choose. this salon changed my mindset completely, bear made me feel so at home, and comfortable in my decisions. the salon is so cute and cozy and all the other stylist were friendly as well. i am so incredibly happy with my hair and can’t wait to go back again. thank you so much Bear, you are amazing!!

First time coming to this salon and I was blown away! Bear is so knowledgeable and talented! They were very attentive to understanding what I wanted with their questions and answering my concerns with expertise and understanding. I learned in this hair experience that I have curly/wavy hair and had no idea. Quite literally an identity crisis right then and there with what was already an identity change for me with this new hair. They were so patient with me and sat with me in the awe of my realization of new hair. It was so special and amazing. I’m grateful to have found Bear and I’m excited for future hair appointments with them!!! Oh and I asked questions afterwards about how to manage my new curly hair and they were very attentive and helpful! Highly recommend the whole salon!

I got my hair cut and styled by Megan Knight here today, and I have to say it was a great experience. The salon itself was clean and inviting, I love how they have local art inside. And Megan herself was a delight to chat with. She was very gentle and attentive to what I asked for, and took her time to make sure I was happy with the results. I will be returning !! Thank you 💙

10/10 recommend Karma!!! What a beautiful human being and a magician when it comes to hair colour! This was my first time getting balayage on my deep brown/ black hair and she hit the perfect shade with such a beautiful balance. Soo incredibly happy with the outcome!! Haven’t stopped getting compliments since!

I usually dread salons, but my experience at The Beauty Project has me thinking that there has always existed a better way, and this is it. I appreciated the small "touches"; a preference checklist at the beginning of the appointment, a menu of drink options, the extra time put into ensuring I was comfortable throughout. I did not give Jillian much direction in terms of how I wanted my haircut (only that I wanted several inches off), and after looking through some photographs we agreed upon a style and she managed to cut it perfectly. I plan to have my next haircut here as well.

Got a haircut with Jillian - As a dude with long hair its hard to know where to go with so many options. The space is warm and welcoming. Jillian was able to interpret my loose thoughts around cleaning up my hair and while keeping it long and I came out feeling fresh and pleased with the work she did! Would recommend to anyone looking for anything from a fresh take to a trim!

I lucked into meeting Jillian shortly after we moved here (and her return) and have never had such an amazing experience!! Considering my hair was going through huge changes - new location, postpartum - she has been helping me fine tune the routine my hair and scalp needs and has even glammed me up with hair tinsel!! Jillian is the kind of hairstylist you travel 800 miles to see (I mean, I do). She doesn’t only care about the final result of your hair, but also the journey it takes to get there. Each step (the conversation beforehand, each section of hair getting cut, the wash, and the styling) is done with care, intention, and check-ins along the way. Jillian is a talented artist who is also enjoyable to chat and joke with, making the whole haircut experience really enjoyable from start to finish. If you have a hard time trusting someone with your hair, Jillian is your lady! Jillian is fantastic! She is so great at attention to detail and so personable. She cut off 14 inches of my hair so I could donate it. She was so helpful in that process. She also gave me THE best scalp facial ever! Could not recommend Jillian enough!

If there were a 10 star option, I would have chosen that to rate my experience with Jillian and the Beauty Project. She is not just a stylist, and when you go in for a hair service, it’s not just a haircut. I went to Jillian to bring a part of myself out that I had always felt was inside me, but was nervous to make the change. After meeting Jillian through friends and finding out she did hair, I knew I was ready to have my outsides match my insides. And that Jillian was the one to do it! She empowered me throughout my appointment, bringing a new level of confidence and excitement to show off my new hair — and the new version of me! She also supported me in finding the right products for my hair after having developed an itchy, dry scalp. She uses products that are salon quality while also being environmentally minded. A huge thing for me. She goes above and beyond for her clients to feel beautiful, whatever that definition is for you. And the Beauty Project Foundation… don’t even get me started. Jillian operates as a business AND nonprofit hair stylist. Her philosophy and mission to bring beauty services to folks experiencing homelessness is another reason I will be a client of Jillian’s for life. Her heart is in everything she does. Nova salon is just a delight! The music and atmosphere was bright and happy, it is very nicely decorated all throughout. My stylist is Jillian, she does a wonderful job sculpting hair and showed me how to take care of my wavy texture. The experience Jillian curates is very soothing. she is considerate, professional, and SO MUCH FUN! Thank you Jillian!!!

Update: I have been seeing Jillian for more than a year now. I am still thrilled with my hair, and I look forward to my time in her chair. Getting your haircut by Jillian is like visiting with your bff for an hour who is also an amazing hair dresser! I have crazy hair- the top part is fairly straight, the bottom layers get curlier each baby I have. I have had some really bad haircuts, and some okay haircuts. The haircut I got today is the first one I’ve loved in over 5 years! Jillian is so attentive to detail and makes sure you leave happy. I love her message of beauty and her big heart, raising money so she is able to do haircuts free of charge for those who need one. I would recommend her to anyone!

It’s easy to be guarded with something as easy as getting your hair done, leaving with regret, but Jillian and the crew allows for vulnerability and a soulful detox. I have never had such a tailored and personalized salon visit as I did with Jillian. She made me feel so seen, and curated a look and experience that I absolutely loved. I couldn’t have asked for more, and her nonprofit is 1000% worth supporting. She’s so fun, I love her, and I love what she does as a stylist. Jillian did an amazing job on my hair, and she helped me to feel so safe and considered through our appointment. I had just gone through a traumatizing hair experience, and Jillian took her time to listen to me and treat me with respect and genuine care. Jillian has been cutting my hair for years! I started getting my hair done with her in Santa Cruz and now that she's moved to Reno, I make sure to schedule an appointment with her anytime I'll be in the area. She does such a great job with my hair and makes me feel super comfortable and cared for the whole time. Bravo!!! Jillian Haun is not only a beautiful human being, she is a truly gifted artist and sculptor of hair. My hair has changed drastically as I have aged, and it has become increasingly difficult to communicate realistic wishes for my curly, thinning, silver hair. I have lived in Reno for 14 years and Jillian Haun is the first and ONLY hairstylist who was willing to go with her gut intuition, at my request, and give me an adorable, happy haircut that she envisioned would work best for me. I could not be happier with the results. I went from feeling frumpy to fabulous! She literally sculpted life, volume, and gorgeousness from what I believed was hopelessly lifeless, frizzy, graying hair. Jillian is a very authentic and present person.
