I will start by saying she is a good hair stylist and if you want a cut or a press she will deliver there. That is why I will give four stars and not deduct more for areas she is lacking. This review is not in malice but I think she should be aware of what she is doing and if she does improve I will update review. I have been going to Sonnie for over 2 years now and she has cut my curly hair and pressed it as well. I do feel though she is pricey for the level of service you receive. 1. I feel at this price point she should be ON TIME. She is always about 30 min late as I said I have been going for 2 years so this is not a one off thing. Not sure if she overbooks, adds people in, lets people come in way too late but I think if I am paying 250+ for a haircut you should be on time. I have spoken to a few of her clients that have left because of this. People who shell out that for a haircut do not want to wait. 2. She is somewhat rude. She generally does not greet you when you walk into salon other than have a seat over there. I remember my first time she was with a client and she just told me to sit down. No, hi I am Sonnie nice to meet you I will be with you in a moment. No just sit there for 30+ minutes. Once she is working on you she is better but still very rough around the edges. I cannot recall more than one experience with me or with her dealing with someone else that I felt she was rude and you could see it clients face. 3. She is rough with your wash as she has long nails so she can never properly massage your scalp and never gets soap out of your ears. 4. Overall salon experience could be better at this price-point as well. If I was paying 100 something maybe but she wants top dollar. The salon is not super clean. It is not filthy but could be better for sure. After she finishes the client you waited 30 minutes for she takes a towel and just dusts off the other persons hair so the chair is never really that clean. She could offer a beverage or something as well. Overall good stylist that should work on some things if she would like to improve her customers overall experience.

I am not sure of the rapport that has been built over the years with her clientele, however I was not impressed when I left the salon. Maybe I caught her on a bad day. In my opinion, the services I received were not worth the $300+ I paid for literally a shampoo, condition, stretch with a blow-dryer, cut split ends/damaged hair, wash and go PLUS a curly cut that I did NOT ask for.. the shape that I have is horrible. No type of precision, thought or effort was made with this shape.. I hate it and I am so glad that my hair grows back fast because I’m really upset at myself for making such an impulsive decision without researching the NUMEROUS of natural hair care salons within the DFW area. I’m not understanding why your first inclination would be to cut off all my hair when I had a decent length to start with AFTER the initial cut. Also, it’s been years since I’ve been in a salon but one thing I know for sure is that I don’t like when I’m being serviced and you’re on the phone. For $300+ dollars your full attention should be on my hair. I literally get mad every time I think about my experience here. Ladies, For $300+ dollars don’t you feel like a steam treatment should at least be included?? Now that I have been doing some additional research, I haven’t found not one salon charging over $300 for a wash and go.. ladies, your money is worth more and can go further by doing your due diligence in finding a salon that actually cares about your hair, puts forth real effort into making it look great and making sure you’re satisfied when you leave knowing that your money was well spent.

I’ve been following her for at least 2 years now, just looking forward to sitting with her. Finally the time came where I had to go to Dallas for a weekend (I came from Vegas). God blesssssss, she was willing to squeeze me in, even though she had a flight to catch the same day. When I sat down she had me tell her a little about my hair history and routine. She bluntly corrected my errors. If I was more sensitive I could see how it’d be taken a type of way but honestly I was just glad to finally know what I was doing wrong. She got my hair hydrated and gave me the knowledge to keep it that way. I didn’t have a specific cut in mind I just told her I don’t like cuts with harsh angles. I don’t even know if I described it right but she caught what I was saying. I walked out of there brand new. Writing this 6 months later, my hair has grown out a bit and I still get compliments on my shape TO THIS DAY. I can’t wait to sit with her again. (Hope to catch u in December)

Sonnie is a miracle worker! It's taken me over 40 years to know what to do with my hair. I have a weird curl pattern of tight 1/2 inch ringlets around the sides and back and then heavy loose waves on the top. So my whole life has just been pulling the top down to cover the frizz underneath. The education Sonnie gave me in my new client appointment was worth every penny!! I'm four days out now and I've still been able refresh and maintain the curls to keep my hair from frizzing! I can't believe how cute I feel! Sonnie was professional, kind, and attentive through my whole 3 hour appointment. There was downtime and she did work on other people that came in. But that was all while I was processing with different treatments or under the dryer. I've experienced many other stylists doing that for efficiency, and I didn't have any issue with it. I was in Dallas on business, and live out of state. But you'd better believe if I lived anywhere close, I would be a regular!

I traveled from Chicago to Dallas for an appointment with Sonnie, but she was not there. She had another stylist scheduled to complete my services, but didn’t communicate that with me. Essentially, I showed up not even knowing that the person I booked with passed me along to another stylist. I continued with the service because I’d traveled so far. I was again scheduled for a virtual appointment on 2/15/24 to prepare for her upcoming visit to Chicago and Sonnie was a no-show! I was charged a fee for the virtual consultation. None of the numbers listed on her sites work and she hasn’t responded to any Instagram messages. She came highly recommended by my Chicago stylist for color services and I was really looking forward to working with her. However, she doesn’t show up, she doesn’t communicate and definitely doesn’t offer a refund for her no shows. Unless you’re standing in her face, beware because she has a track record of not showing up! I wish I could give her -10 stars…1 is way too generous

I want to start by saying I loved how my hair turned out. If I solely based it on how I was treated and left the salon feeling then I would give it zero. To start the appointment off she was late. Secondly, her detangling, lightening, parting, shampooing and styling were all super rough. I'm not accusing her of intentionally being rough but it almost seemed like it. Like maybe she didn't want to do my hair? She was talking to another stylist about loose curls as she was shampooing me? It felt like she was annoyed by my texture. Then, she ordered food and ate during the appointment while I uncomfortably sat laying, neck bent, in the bowl for at least 25-30 mins (if not longer). Also, I booked a silk press and got a wash and go. I spoke up when I realized she forgot what my service was and she was willing to wash the product out and give me a silk press but I declined. I had already been there 3-4 hours, she had another client waiting, and her demeanor the entire time wasn't pleasant and I just knew if I said yes she would have had an attitude or I'd be there another 3-4 hours while she did another client and me so I passed. (I honestly felt like she did the wash and go because the other client came in but that's just a feeling). I also left a personal item there and didn't get any notice to come pick it up so idk if she threw it away or kept it but I'm highly disappointed. I don't get the luxury of having my hair done often. I went with someone I had been following on Instagram for YEARS and believed in her quality of work. I trusted her with my hair after 3 years of growing it out, not dying or really even straightening it and taking good care of it. I spent nearly $300, but I'm unhappy overall. My hair looks great and I'm happy with how it came out, but I feel that I overpaid for the service. Unfortunately I won't be returning to the Curly Spot unless I see someone other than Sonnie. In my opinion, it doesn't matter how famous you get, or how much money you make, if you're going into the service industry customer service should be your number 1 priority.

She is timely, her salon is beautiful, and she makes sure that I understand my own unique haircare needs. My hair is the healthiest that it has ever been, and I am always complimented on my haircut and color. Book your appointment today, you will not be disappointed!!

Sonnie has colored and cut my hair twice now in the past year, including this past Monday. My curls come out so healthy and bouncy every time. I have A LOT of hair and she never loses her patience while working on my hair. She takes her time so that my hair will come out as healthy as possible after a service. I would rather have Sonnie take 6-7 hours for my hair color and curly cut to come out RIGHT than go to someone who would rush through a service, be done in 2 hours, and my hair be ruined (which would always happen to me until I found Sonnie). Her assistant was also a great help and even when Sonnie was working on someone else during my service, she made sure to continuously check on me either herself or have her assistant work and check on me (which I have no issue with because it seems like they’re a great team). If you truly care about the integrity of your curls, Sonnie is your girl!

Sonnie provided excellent customer service. I appreciate the education that she provides while providing services. My hair is always phenomenal when she finishes and it last weeks so I feel like I get a good value for what I pay for. Highly recommend.

I followed the owner Sonnie on instagram for several months observing her work. I finally made an appointment and it did not disappoint! She is friendly and professional and does an excellent job cutting natural hair into a shape! I look forward to coming back in a couple months for some color.

I had been looking for a curl specialist for awhile. I'm so happy that I found The Curl Spot. Xavier not only created a great wash-n-go, he walked me throught it step by step with a mirror. I am able to recreate what he did and make my wash-n-go last more than a week. Previously, I would have to redo my hair mid-week.

I lost hair while battling Seborrhoeic Dermatitis. After receiving the diagnosis, I desperately needed a haircut. Sonnie was professional, and she gave me a taper cut with explicit instructions on caring and styling my hair. I can now comfortably style my hair once a week and see her once a quarter for maintenance.

My curls have never looked this beautiful and now I finally know how to truly care for them. You will not leave disappointed!

I’ve been coming to Sonnie since October of 2022. I got a blonde balayage and a curly cut that she has been helping me to maintain as I grow into my desired length. Sonnie is extremely knowledgeable in hair care. She gets me in and out which I appreciate. I was nervous to go blonde, as well as getting my hair cut, but my hair has really been thriving since coming to her, & I trust her to help me transform my hair into the overall look that I am going for. I’m so happy to have partnered with someone who specializes in color and curly hair, someone to make sure that I am going about my hair correctly when not in her chair. I can’t wait to go back to see her in October to touch up my roots, go more blonde, and to see where I am in my overall goals. I love the vibe of the shop, relaxed yet professional.

I’ve been going to Sonnie to get my natural hair Silk Pressed for a few years now and I have yet to be disappointed. Her energy is always upbeat and her work is unmatched in my book. Sonnie keeps my natural hair looking and feeling healthy and my curls always come right back after a wash. If you’re thinking about booking an appointment, do yourself a favor and pull the trigger!

I’ve been here twice first for the new client curly cut and a second time for a wash &go (both appointments with Xavier). Like other reviews have said, it is a very inviting down to earth environment. Xavier, Sonnie, Tae, & Sarah were all very friendly and encouraging. At one point during my first appointment they were collaborating on the best way to approach my hair; making sure I was ok with any changes they made. You can tell that they have a passion for what they do and care about doing a high quality job on your hair. I will definitely be back & am excited to see how my hair will flourish in the future!

From the shampoo experience I had at this salon alone is cause for this great rating. It was the best shampoo experience I’ve had in my life! I also love the education that Sonnie gave me regarding the health of my hair, which is not something that is offered with most stylists these days. This would definitely be my only stylist if I lived closer.

My wash n go results were very nice but I wish the service matched the results. I arrived to my appointment on time but it appeared Sonnie had triple booked me and I had to wait for her to finish other clients during several points in my appt. The wash and detangle was very rough and not gentle at all and she also took a break to eat during my appointment, which probably wouldn’t have been a problem if I didn’t have somebody waiting for me outside and other clients being serviced at the same time but there was no empathy or any offers for accommodations for her mishaps. I was also told my previous cut was pretty screwed up but it was cut by students of a class she was mentoring so that was discouraging. My appointment seemed overpriced for the type of service I received unfortunately. **I in fact was a client of Sonnie my last name listed is backwards.**

Yesterday I experienced “The Curl Box” for the first time and loved it. The shop is cute, clean and decorated nicely. Xavier did a wonderful job on my Silk Press, explaining everything he did along the way. He was also very gentle. The energy of the salon is down to earth. I’ve already made my next appointment. It feels good to finally find a black-owned salon geared towards my natural curly hair. Set the appointment, you definitely won’t regret the experience!
