I worked with Tiffany for the first time today and it was AMAZING! She’s like a hair wizard! My haircut turned out absolutely beautiful and the scalp treatment was so nice and made me feel like I was doing right by my hair. I cannot recommend her enough!! She also styled my hair at the end and made sure to use products to keep the style going well into tonight to accommodate my plans. Will definitely keep going back to her!

Really cute light and airy salon! I’ve gone to Stef since 2018 and she’s pretty much done it all for me - lighter, darker, bangs, layers, etc. She’s a true artist with hair and is very detail oriented. She also helps create a welcome environment. I’ve also had nice encounters with the salon owner. Overall, a chill place to get a top notch service!

Stephanie is an absolute hair goddess. I have been a client for over 5 years now and she has gone above and beyond in every appointment since the beginning. After moving from Austin I was very nervous to trust a new stylist and she has truly amazed me every time. She is also just the sweetest person and makes you feel so incredible about yourself anytime you’re in her chair. I could not recommend her more!

The Lightening Society is such a warm, welcoming, stylish place. All of the stylists are so friendly and attentive. Sam always gives me the absolute best haircuts and Amber and Tiffany are wonderful colorists. I think this salon will be a regular place of mine for many years to come!

the salon is stunning. i am mesmerized by their vining plants hung on the walls every time i go in — but apart of aesthetics the stylists are amazing too. i see stefanie, and she out does herself every appointment im in her chair. not only is she an artist, she’s also an educator. i learn more about my hair care and hair health every time i see her. grateful to have found someone i not only vibe so well with in terms of how we envision my hair, but we connect so well on life and vibes. i think im laughing about one thing or another from the moment i step in to the moment im giggling about how much i love my hair on the wag out the door! love the salon, love stef! highly recommend

I did not have a great experience here. First the lady was already running behind schedule when I finally got seated and after discussing what I wanted but couldn’t get that due to my hair not being a certain way I just decided to get a regular cut. As I’m getting my hair washed the lady gets all snippy with me just because I lifted my head up because it was my instinct to do that when I felt her trying to lift my head up. She told me she wasn’t trying to be rude but she definitely came across that way. Throughout the appointment she told me she was expecting a family call so her phone rings and she goes in the back leaving me just sitting there. What kind of service is this? I get ripped off paying $110 for this poor hair experience. Waste of money

I will never go to another stylist again! I have been going to Tiffany for the past couple of years and I trust her so completely with my hair. She always executes my vision even better than I could’ve imagined. She’s friendly, accommodating, fun, and beyond talented.

I could not be happier to have found Matti and this salon! This will be my third appointment with Matti and every time she’s exceeded my expectations. Not only is she excellent at talking through my wants and needs, I always have such a fun time with her and leave feeling rejuvenated! My hair was very dark before with blonde ends from previous stylists and she’s helped lighten it up in a healthy and natural way. I never feel rushed and always feel taken care of with Matti. Go see her!

I’ve been going to Matti for a couple years now and she’s amazing! She’s very honest with what she thinks will look best and I normally just show her an idea I like and she runs with it! From coloring to cut! I highly recommend her!

I’ve had coloring and cut sessions with Matti over the last couple of years that I felt looked great. I tried to schedule a consult with her for a different style but she told me that she “didn’t feel confident” working on my hair and so told me to go to a different stylist. It feels very strange and personal. I’ve never been turned away by a hair stylist before, especially after having great experiences with them.

I just had my second visit with Tiffany at The Lightening Society and am so thrilled with how my hair looks. Over the last two visits, Tiffany has helped bring some much needed shape back to my bob and this most recent time, added some expertly placed highlights. She took so much care in the placement—it’s perfect! No mater if my hair is down, pulled back/up, parted differently…it still has a vibe. Her salon is very comfortable and she plays an incredible host, making sure you are comfortable, offering snacks and beverages. It’s just a wonderful experience all around.

Sam is such a wonderful hair stylist! She does exactly what I ask for, and it’s so refreshing to finally have a hair stylist I can trust after a few years of going back and forth with different people. Not to mention she is the sweetest human! Even though I only get haircuts 2-3 times a year (bad habit on my part), I know I can go to her ☺️

I went to see Matti Breaux for the first time after searching for the right stylist to take me blonde and I can’t recommend her enough! It was a fantastic experience from start to finish. Matti, has an incredible talent for understanding exactly what would look good on her clients and delivers! The salon itself is clean, welcoming, and comfortable. Matti is professional, friendly, and attentive to every detail. She takes the time to listen to my ideas and offer great suggestions that complement my features and style. Amber is an incredible and intuitive stylist. I have difficult hair to cut-straight on top, thick and wavy below. It always takes longer than stylists anticipate and they are often afraid to thin it out as much as I like. Amber listened to me and gave me the best re-shaping haircut I’ve had in years. It’s been low maintenance since my first cut, and I’m loving the grow out. I trust her so much, I took my son in to see her for his first haircut! She is great with anyone in her chair.

Stef is incredible! I’ve been seeing her for over 5 years and have never had a single complaint. The salon is beautiful, clean and the music is always a vibe. Stef does such a great job of creating a warm and cozy environment - always offering drinks or snacks, asking about your life, and making sure you both are on the same page about hair goals. My hair has never been this healthy or beautiful. All the stylists are great, everyone gets along and atmosphere is always light and fun. If you need your hair done and you’re in pdx, I can’t recommend The Lightening Society enough!

Very clean space with new equipment. You can tell that the staff values cleanliness. I got a highlight and a cut by Amber. She taught me a lot about my hair texture and about the hair products I use. Her talent speaks for itself in the photos below. No stripy bits and she was very focused on the health and integrity of my hair. I would recommend this salon for people who are very particular about blonde and people who would like to learn how to properly care for their hair.

Booked a first time high light and cut with Tiffany. I was a little nervous seeing someone new but I had such a great experience. She asked all the questions to make sure she understood what I was wanting. I got blonde-ish high lights on black hair and the placement and color turned out perfect. It was a 4 hour apt and she checked in with me multiple times to make sure I was comfortable and offered me snacks and drinks. The salon is adorable and clean and the neighborhood felt safe.

Stefanie is amazing. I found her via instagram and probably would have never discovered this salon if it wasn’t for her. I can’t say enough great things about The Lightening Society Salon. It is not only beautiful inside, it is also so welcoming. I’ve been on the hunt for a new place to get my hair done and I finally found it at Lightening, more specifically in Matti! She cut my hair so beautifully that my silver hair highlights my face perfectly. I haven’t gotten such an amazing cut in years. Matti also made me feel like I was sitting at my friend’s house, just hanging out. I would definitely recommend going to see her!

I saw Amber today and wow, wow WOW what an amazing hair appointment. I cannot thank Amber enough for the amount of time she took in my pre-appointment consultation. I had a really traumatic haircut a year ago as I have thinning hair so it takes me a very long time to grow back when it's cut too short. Amber looked at some of my inspo pics and asked so many great questions to get to know how I style my hair and what my hair goals were. From there she shared some ideas she had and told me how she was going to cut my hair (I loved that she did a combo of wet/dry hair cut) and where it would land on my shoulders/back once it was dry. The fact that she fully listened to what happened with my cut and color the year before and was sensitive to what I found awful about it and talked me through the cut meant so much to me. I only booked a cut for this appointment so while she was doing the consultation I asked if she could give me a quote for what kind of color/highlighting she thinks would be good for the natural grow-out style I like. She took me through a variety of options and even helped me to book the follow-up coloring appointment after my cut! I loved the products she used on my hair and that she showed me how I could use them at home and even took me through some different hot curling options I could purchase on my own to help achieve how she styled my cut! I moved out of state last summer to Portland and I can finally say, I FOUND MY STYLIST! The actual salon is so calming and relaxing. I love that its a smaller boutique style salon and the location had tons of easy to access street parking. I also loved that neighborhood/location felt safe and inviting to hang out in after my appointment.

Lightening Society isn’t just a great name with fun branding; it is an absolutely beautiful salon with abundant natural light and 5 amazing stylists. My daughter and I both worked with Amber Bayer and she tamed our ultra-thick, somewhat unruly hair like no one has ever before. My typical salon experience is a full day event between 6-8 hours and oftentimes that entails leaving the salon with wet hair because we ran out of time. Not here. In three short hours, which went by in the blink of an eye, she had my highlights done, roots retouched/blended, hair cut and miraculously my hair was dried and styled too. This is no small feat. I’m excited to book my next appointment. Thank you, Amber!

Posting a photo of my hair before and the haircut I got. Considering what my hair looked like before, this haircut feels criminal. The consultation was really short and honestly pretty careless. I’ve been to Tiffany twice before and I really liked how she cut my hair and she was super conservative with trimming length. This was crazy. It’s a completely different haircut than I asked for and showed her and waaaay shorter. Bonus points for even being too short to put up. One of the things we did talk about in the consultation was that I wanted something more low maintenance and yet she cut my hair so short I can’t even put it up. You’d think that would be something spoken about before the hair was cut off since it’s such a huge lifestyle change. It’s hard to put into words how devastating this haircut has been. I think it’s also worth noting that out of the 3 times I’ve been to Tiffany, I was rescheduled the same day twice. Once the morning of and another time when I showed up to the salon and she didn’t know I had an appointment.
