First time at the root and I had an appointment with Amanda. I was super excited, but she was 25 mins late. I get that things happen/other appointments run late and probably why she rushed my service but she was not friendly or asked me a single question about myself. I thought maybe it was because she was tired or something but she had another appointment right after mine and was super smiley and friendly to her. It was really awkward and I felt like I was a burden. The stylist that washed my hair was really sweet and made my appointment better. We don’t need to be best friends but a bit of kindness goes a long way, people look forward to getting services done.

I reached out via email but never received a response, so I’m sharing my experience here. I visited last week for partial highlights—a simple retouch with a few added baby lowlights, similar to what I had done previously. Unfortunately, my instructions were not followed, and the results were disappointing. I loved the blonde color from my last visit, but it was completely ruined this time. Instead of maintaining the blonde, an excessive number of lowlights were added, and a toner was used without my consent or even informing me. I always tell stylists not to use toner on my hair, as it absorbs instantly and cancels out the blonde. At a high-end salon, I would expect the staff to recognize this and be able to manage it appropriately. Now, my hair is no longer blonde; it’s a dull brownish-blondish shade that almost looks gray. It’s not the vibrant color I wanted, and I’m now worried about further damage if I try to fix it. I left the salon with wet hair, so I didn’t notice the extent of the problem until it dried at home. I paid over $240+ for this service, which is outrageous for what I received. In my opinion, The Root Salon is far from a luxury, high-end salon—it lacks the skill and expertise to justify its prices. I’ve been getting my hair done for over 24 years, and it's not difficult to distinguish talented stylists from those who are not. This was a complete waste of money, and my hair is now in worse condition. I won’t be returning.

I’ve used Tyler once before when my previous stylist from another salon was unavailable, and I was impressed. But after this recent color and style, he’s earned my complete loyalty! His attention to detail and ability to bring my vision to life is incredible. I left the salon feeling amazing and confident. If you’re looking for a stylist who listens, delivers, and leaves you feeling fabulous, Tyler is your guy!

I love this salon! It is comfortable and conveniently located with very fair prices. The best part of all is Tyler. Tyler is incredibly kind and talented. He nails my color with exactly what I want every single time. My last appointment, my color was truly the best of life. Thank you, Tyler!

Second time coming here and saw Mikee again. I wanted a new cut and look to shape with my face, with really no knowledge of what would work best. Mikee gave great advice and a cut that was perfect! Brittany came over and helped me out with a color consultation for my next visit. Both took the time to listen and help me with a new look. Thank you root salon.

I had a wonderful experience at The Root Salon today. Amaya Destiny did a color, glaze and blowout for me and I absolutely love the way my hair looks and feels. She helped me decide on the color and was very patient. The color looks great! I've been to the Root Salon in the past with a good experience as well. Reception staff was very courteous as well. I will be re booking with Amaya again in the future and will probably bring my daughter and son in for haircuts.

Drove 30 min to my appointment to be told I don’t have one after I confirmed it 2 days prior!!! I had an appointment July 6th that was booked MONTHS in advance and received the email July 4th to confirm my 9am appointment and sign the cancellation policy forms just to find out the stylist I had left AWHILE ago and no one told me… I wasted my time and gas to be told “I’m sorry.” How ridiculous and incompetent this salon is at managing their appointments is beyond words.

I don’t like leaving negative reviews but I had to voice my opinion this time. When I arrived my stylist was sitting in the waiting area reading a magazine. She came over to me, didn’t introduce herself and actually said maybe 10 words to me the whole appointment. I showed her a couple pictures I was thinking about. She didn’t voice an opinion or offer any suggestions just started cutting. When she was done I hated it (it looked nothing like the pictures) and her only suggestion was, “maybe cut it shorter but I wouldn’t “. I could not be more disappointed and especially for the cost and then feel pressured into leaving a tip. Needless to say, I will not go back.

I was a first time customer. The salon looked nice and check in was friendly. So I was optimistic when I arrived. The stylist gave a nice massage with the shampoo. So that part was nice. I thanked her afterwards and she didn't respond & barely spoke to me through out the entire service beyond maybe two or three question. My appointment was supposed to be 45 minutes but it was very rushed. I was in and out start to finish in like 15-20 minutes. She took more time on the shampoo then she did with the cut, and essentially just blew it dry and sent me on my way. Even though it was supposed to include styling. It just felt like she did the bare minimum effort. For the amount of money it cost I feel like I got very little in return. My sister paid for the haircut for me as a treat to celebrate the new job I just got since I hadn't been able to afford to get my haircut in about year. I had really looked forward to doing something special to give myself a little extra confidence for my first work trip. Be able to feel like I looked nice.. So it was really sad not to get to really enjoy the experience or feel like someone put any effort into it. I was hesitant to post because I didn't get a bad cut per se but didn't get anything to really make me feel very happy with my experience either. It was just disappointing. Especially for someone who hasn't been able to do nice things in awhile.

Tyler at Root Salon is absolutely amazing!! I went in for a color adjustment due to not liking how my hair turned out from the previous stylist, he was super understanding and optimistic about fixing it and he did my hair exactly as I had wanted. He’s super friendly and has great energy, we chatted the whole time and he also has a lot of experience so I felt very confident in his work. I will be going back again to get my hair done by Tyler! The location of the salon is also very central to everything and the salon is very clean and nice. Pricing is also very fair!

We had the best experience ever today! My daughter needed a trim to even out her hair so we decided to check out The Root. Recommended by a friend. This was the best experience ever. Shane was amazing with our daughter. Super friendly, funny and explained everything he was doing before he would do it. The atmosphere is perfect and all of the staff were very friendly. I will be booking an appointment for my mom next! I think we have found our forever place!

Really wanted to go here since the only places that cut curly hair are outside of Phoenix. I called a few days ago and was told that not a single stylist in the salon knows how to cut 3b curly hair. I then was trying to find somewhere else online and saw a review from someone with curly hair saying they loved the service they got. So I decided to try again via email bc they are so close to me and was told via email (after disclosing that I didn’t want a curly “deva curl” cut, I wanted help to grow out my hair for my 2025 wedding) I was told to book with a certain stylist. I was then called for intake today and after getting my information the receptionist said that the stylist I was told to book actually couldn’t do “ethnic” hair. It’s not any of the receptionists fault they were all very nice, I ended up being short and frustrated by the end of the last call, which isn’t fair. But also why in 2023 can stylist not at least trim split ends off of any hair type, even “ethnic” hair to help with hair growth? Why is the only option for curly hair to get deva curl mullet cut? I just wanted a trim to help with growth instead of having to drive 30-45 minutes for a haircut I don’t really want. If there are any recommendations in central Phoenix for people who can cut “ethnic” 3b hair that would be great. I am not going to give them 0 stars I am sure they do great work but it sucks that in this day and age they don’t have one person at their salon that will take on an “ethic” hair cut.

My highlights service felt rushed and ended up more stripy than I wanted. I literally said I don’t want stripes and that I like it well blended. I also showed them a picture of what i wanted. This was done by one of their more senior stylists too… I won’t be returning. 3 stars because it’s not absolutely terrible and they offer customers water, tea, etc. which is nice.
