This has become my go-to salon. The stylist, Javier, is extremely professional and friendly as well as his lovely wife Elena. I always feel great when I come here and they make my hair look amazing. Javier listens and gives great advice and suggestions based on your hair type and the style you're looking for, he is clearly passionate about hair and wants to share his passion with his clients. Again, I strongly recommend this place to anyone looking for a personable and professional service.

This place is the best - Javier and Elena are fantastic. Javier is amazing at his craft and a pleasure to talk to. Elena is a wonderful host and makes you feel really welcome the entire time. I've been searching for my go to barber in this area for a year now and believe I've found it now.

5 STARS! It was meant to be that I found this gem here on the upper west side. It has been years since a professional cut so the experience was not only wonderful, I walked out feeling beautiful! I suffer from social anxiety but the service was exceptional and everyone is so kind. Clean, cozy and took their time. PS they are latina/latino so its a bonus and no brainer! You will not regret going here, they will literally upgrade you before leaving out of this place! I have found my new designated stylist/salon. Thank you so much on making me look beautiful right before my birthday ❤️

Javier and Elena are brilliant. Super kind. They squeezed me in as I stumbled upon their cute salon after seeing someone walk out with a stellar haircut. They offered me coffee or water as I waited. They shampooed my hair twice before and after the haircut. They chose my new hairstyle per my request, thank you Javi. The way he cut and textured my hair was artistic. I will keep coming back here. Needed a quick cut before catching a train and gave Theater Salon a shot. Javier and his wife Elena (apologies if misspelled) showed amazing hospitality and professionalism. Highly recommend this spot for a men’s haircut.

I came to Theater Salon looking to see if I could book an appointment, and I was able to walk in and be seen on the spot! Both Javier and Elena were extremely friendly- I can't fault the customer service at all. The price was very reasonable and I was very happy with my cut. I will be coming back here on a regular basis and I would definitely recommend!

I came to Theater Salon needing a haircut about 2 years ago. I was looking for a new colorist and stylist and I found my team. Javier is a skilled stylist and colorist who brought my damaged hair back to top notch condition. He does an amazing blowout as well. Elena keeps everything together in the salon and offers the most relaxing headwash and perfect coffees. I love that they are my neighbors and sometimes I stop in just to visit and chat. If you are looking for high quality hair care you have have to come to the Theater Salon!

Wow, just wow. Javier is a true artist. I had been on the search for a new hair salon in the neighborhood since I didn’t have a great experience at salon West. Theater Hair Salon was the answer! Elena and Javier make the experience so pleasant – a delicious coffee, a restorative wash and hair mask, And then a quick beautiful cut with a blow out that is to die for. He listened and gave me exactly what I wanted. And so affordable! Will be back, can’t recommend them enough!

Terrible style. Hot headed temperamental personality. Very disagreeable. Avoid at all costs. . The pictures below are immediately after I got out of the car. Not at the end of the wedding as the hairdresser implies. Go to this salon at your own peril. You’ve been warned.

After being in quarantine and not having a haircut for months, my hair was severely damaged. I went into the Theater Hair Salon and was immediately greeted by Elena, she was very sweet and had me taken care of right away. Javier is the one who cut my hair and he did a wonderful job! He was very quick which at first worried me but my hair came out perfect! My layers were perfectly even and my hair was so much healthier. I would definitely recommend coming here.

Finally after a lot of searching around and many bad haircuts i found the right place. Javier firugred out immediately the right way to do my hair and it looks the best i have ever had. he clearly knows his work very well and he is very talented. him and his wife are lovely.

I accidentally found this amazing place and I’m so happy. Javier and Elena squeezed me in on a busy Saturday evening for haircut, which turned out to beautifully so I had to come for hair color and as expected they did an amazing job. I now have my go-to salon in nyc 😊

I’ve been trying for years to get a good haircut that I can just wash and go. I have pretty curly hair and my experience has been that the first cut at a place is good but then not so much after that. Javier was a genius and cut my hair quickly and beautifully. I wanted to wait a few days before the “honeymoon period” was over to see if the cut held and it has. I don’t like to fuss with my hair. Also I spend a lot of time in the water or out in humidity. I’m on a cruise now and I’m so happy. I can get out of the pool or the shower, put a little product in and go. And it looks great all day. Elena was so nice and competent and gave me a great shampoo. And advice on how to care for my hair (don’t touch it too much while it’s drying naturally.) All in all a wonderful experience and I will certainly go back and would recommend to everyone. My husband is delighted. He knows my frustration with big curly, frizzy hair and he’s happy that I’m happy.

Javier and his wife are great. Listens to what you want and executes skillfully. Great cut that gets better with time if that’s possible. Inevitably someone complements me on my hair right before I’ve scheduled an appointment. Clean and calm storefront. Accommodating scheduling. Reasonable prices.

Let me tell you something, I dont know if this place is a hidden gem or if I just havent looked local for my haircut needs but Javier here and his wife are two of the finest people I have met on the UWS. Javier knocked my haircut out of the park. I work in finance so I needed something which is clean and distinguished and he executed to perfection. Easily one of the best haircuts I have received in my adult life. I am now his customer forever. I understand why this place has such a high review rating here and I am just pushing it higher now. The service and atmosphere in Theater Salon is absolutely first class. I've been enjoying the excellent skills of Javier for the past few years and can't say enough about his sense of style, his kindness, and his swift and professional haircuts. As for Elena - she is an amazing partner - in addition to everything else, she makes the best macchiato in town! You couldn't find a better place to get your hair done - from color, to cut, to being able to pick up some lovely jewelry and have a nice coffee, this is a restful and charming family owned business.

Two and a half years living in NYC and I've finally found a barber who gives a great cut for my medium/long hair. Javier is fantastic, understood what I was going for and explained what he was doing throughout the cut. Elena is so friendly and together they've created a truly cozy atmosphere. Will certainly be coming back!

Awful experience! I went for a haircut (for the 2nd time in that salon) and I showed them 2 of my pictures explaining what I wanted. I asked Javier to get the back of my hair ( back neck area) very short. When they asked me if I wanted them to cut my hair on the sides I said yes ( trusted them to do a good job) and I did not pay attention that they were going to shave the sides so they went ahead and shaved my whole hair. I never asked for that kind of haircut and I clearly showed them pictures of what I wanted. The first time around they did a good job but this second time they did something horrendous. Javier was angry when I told them that I did not ask to shave my whole hair and did not apologize at all. My current haircut gives me anxiety and I am currently taking pills to grow my hair. I will avoid this place at all costs as they don't pay attention and don't care about their customers and what they want and ask for.

Javi and his wife Elena run a great business. They have it figured out: The location is pristine and beautiful, the welcome is kind and genuine, the work is artful and precise, the prices are fair and correct. Javi is a true artist; he takes time to study your hair, its tendencies, its quality and more. He then suggests options and executes masterfully. In the day and age of YouTube-certified "hair stylists", having a master with 30 years of experience and many awards is refreshing.

Nice hair dresser, just need to be very clear when asking for a hair cut and checking time to time to make sure it goes in the right direction and it should perfect. For me as a man, I am very satisfied about my haircut and the service. Really well put and attentive. For my female partner on the other hand, they didn't check correctly after showing what they wanted and ended up with a much shorter haircut than they expected, and were therefore very disappointed. This was my first experience at an hairdresser in the USA, so it is difficult to compare but I feel that the service was mostly attentive and the hair cut alright. I'd recommend visiting this place if you can clearly explain what you want and it should be perfect as it was for me.
