I really like that they let you pick between “levels” of hair dressers to best fit price range and so on. It’s very cute & clean, the staff is very welcoming. It would be nice if they were more inclusive with some Latina hairdressers, I’ve been to both locations and I don’t think I’ve ever seen one. Nice experience otherwise.

I see Tori and she ALWAYS understands my vision. I’m obsessed with my haircut I got today 🥰 the bangs are PERFECT and she always styles my hair exactly how i like it. I also brought my mom this time and she LOVED her stylist Jo. Jo did an amazing job on her hair and my mom has NOT stopped talking about them since she got home. Jo was so sweet to her. We’ll definitely make an appointment together again next time. Thank you Tori and Jo for the fresh hair and conversation!

Sadly I won’t be going back here again. I had just become a regular here when my stylist left, so I went with the next available stylist. My highlight was truly disappointing, it was done so quickly, so when I came home and checked I could see the highlights were chunky and not nicely integrated and the coloring was really yellow in four or five areas. I tried to let it go but thought of the almost $200 I’d just spent, so a few days later I called and asked really politely if I could have a little touch up. The receptionist said they would call me back. They never did. So there you have it, no follow up. My opinion is the receptionist could have taken charge and found a spot for me to come back to fix the problem, it just felt like a delay tactic. Or at the very least she could have checked to see if the stylist had called me back. To me It showed a total lack of interest in the customer. It’s a lot of money to just throw away on really bad service.

Twisted scissors completely messed up my hair twice. They have ruined my trust in ever getting my hair colored again I’m attaching photos showing my inspo that I showed the stylist and then what I actually got for both appointments. In my first appointment, I had asked for a rose gold balayage with a bob. My hair was turned bright orange and pink. I thought something was lacking in communication even though I brought inspiration. I cried so much when I got home because my hair was so ruined. The second appointment was after my hair was grown out, I wanted it a more natural colored balayage. I specifically told the stylist that I loved to wear my hair half up, so if she could make sure the bleach wasn’t just a straight line across. She still left it as a a straight line across my hair. Both times, the balayges were poorly done. I hated how my roots looked. Are balayages not for letting your roots grow out?? I don’t know why i would spend time and money to let someone destroy my hair. Both stylists were unfriendly. I did email the salon about it. They offered the same stylist to fix it but there was no acknowledgment or apology. Why would I have the person who carelessly ruined my hair attempt to fix it?

Have gone here a few times and usually had very positive experiences here (not to mention I try to be a low maintenance customer and tip well) but a few months back I had to call and cancel an appointment the day-of due to the unpredictability of raising a baby and also because they had temporarily closed their much more convenient Avondale location and failed to clarify my appointment had been moved to their *other* location, which is much further away from where I live (side note: this had always been a small issue with this salon, they’re rarely explicit about where you’re booking your appointment over the phone unless you ask them to clarify). Because I couldn’t immediately reschedule my appt for another day, I was hit with a $30 cancellation fee…but the person I spoke with over the phone didn’t even provide me the courtesy of telling me that would happen, instead they just charged me after we hung up with no warning. After calling them back and leaving a voicemail to dispute the charge, they never bothered to call me back. I’ve always been a huge supporter of small businesses in the neighborhood - my other reviews back this up - but this experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I haven’t been back since.

I’ve had multiple disappointing experiences at Twisted Scissors Avondale location. As a queer brown girl, I feel the stylists are not accommodating for my hair type and often seem disinterested in engaging with me during my appointments, despite chatting with other clients. I’ve tried different stylists at various levels, but I never feel welcome. After giving them numerous chances, I’ve decided I won’t be returning. It’s disheartening to leave a place feeling unwelcome and undervalued

Cute shop with a comfortable casual, relaxing atmosphere. Everyone is very pleasant & the stylists really seem like they really enjoy what they do. They were laughing with each other; it is great to see people enjoy what they do for a living!

I feel bad leaving 2 stars, everyone in this salon is very friendly and kind but I’ve unfortunately been disappointed with both haircuts I got here. I went twice with two different stylists, both were very kind but I was not happy with what I got at the end. I thought the first time I wasn’t clear enough so I tried a second time saying I wanted short, shaggy layers and I did not get that. The cuts were fine, just not what I asked for and in my opinion not worth the price. I’ve gotten the same (if not better) cuts at a $10 place

Pains me to write this review, because everyone here is nice and welcoming... but my haircut is terrible and embarrassing - and I feel obligated to warn people! I requested a French bob with no layers. It was so uneven and choppy when she said she was done that I had to ask her to fix it... TWICE! She never checked to make sure it was even!! She also sliced my neck with her scissors, so I was in pain and bleeding... Ultimately, when she presented my new cut as "done" (after two rounds of "fixing" it), I accepted my fate of an uneven, choppy bob that I would later have to awkwardly fix over my bathroom sink. Honestly this was the worst salon experience I have ever had. Will not be returning here.

I love my stylist AJ! Both locations have a cool vibe, and both the stylists and the clients all have badass hair. Little Sister is much smaller and quieter than the other location.

after spending much time researching queer barbers and salons in chicago, i finally decided Twisted Scissors was the place for me. i called to book a new client appointment, was immediately put on hold, which lasted 30 minutes until i realized the shop is closing soon. i hung up and called back, to get a voicemail. my calls were either ignored or forgotten about, neither of which are acceptable. i haven’t even been a customer yet and i already wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

I got the worst haircuts of my life at this place. I went twice and to different stylists and locations each time. Both insisted on cutting my hair dry even though I asked for it to be washed first. I thought that they knew what they were doing, so I agreed. That's on me. Of course, the haircut ended up extremely choppy and unflattering, like a child had cut it. I will never be coming back.

been trying to find a good place for a shag, showed several pictures, ended up looking like a les mom when i came out. i was looking forward to not wearing my beanie to cover up my hair anymore, and now i still have to use the beanie and look worse than i started out. every time i look at my hair i get pissed off. i honestly don’t even know how it’s gonna look whenever it happens to grow out. thanks a lot. trash establishment my appointment was with Kaitlyn, although there’s 2 Kaitlyns. she had short hair

Good place, once you find someone who knows your hair it's great, I can't personally find a sytist that works for me and my hair but I do love how close they are and accommodating they are.

Was running late for an appt as I made a mistake and wrote the time wrong. I been coming here for 8 yrs and never have I missed an appt or been late. But I have been understanding plenty of times when you guys are running time for my appt time. They took 100.00 deposit and offered to reschedule for another 100.00. I had to decline. I will NOT be returning.

I have a teen who has sensory processing disorder. They recently had their hair cut here. We came back a few days later to even the bangs and get some styling suggestions. Tori was very helpful and very understanding. I strongly suggest giving them a heads up when making an appointment of what they might find overwhelming and suggestions on how to counteract them. The staff was so kind and helpful. Thank you so much. 💓

I would agree with other recent reviews of this place. The vibe inside is very cute and the customer service was good. However, after a very quick consultation in which the stylist asked no clarifying questions, I left with much more length off than I requested and bangs that are too short and too thick. It is ironic because preserving my length, as I'm trying to grow my hair out, and making sure my bangs were piece-y and layered were my only two requests. Hair grows back, so it'll be okay, but overall would not recommend.

Was very excited to try this place out as they have so many good reviews. Unfortunately, my experience was not what I had hoped. While their customer service is top notch, the haircut I got looks nothing like I had described, and I left with uneven bangs cut way shorter than desired. I wish the stylist had done a more thorough consultation with me prior to cutting my hair. Everything felt so rushed. Overall, I would not recommend getting a haircut here.
