Best cut I've had in Chicago! Defo coming back!

I would give 0 stars if I could and I will never visit this place again. Told the middle guy "Diell" to give me the hair cut as the picture I showed him and he made me like a bald watermelon just before my conference presentation. If you're curious, you can also read other people's review here about Diell's handy-works. His special superpower is making you bald and then making excuses for it, blaming you for the bad haircut! One funny thing about him is he himself left the first google review of this place 11 years ago, Diell Hasani. Anyway, if you're here reading this before you visit them, DONT!! If you're here after Diell has made you a bald watermelon and charged you $40 for it, there are few options for you. You should take a picture as soon as possible of how he ruined your hair, then chargeback using your credit card company. You could also take him to the Pro Se Small Claims court just take pictures since you need to show they breached a reasonable understanding of the service agreement.

Just moved to Hyde Park and was recommended to this shop by my coworker. One of the cleanest haircuts I’ve ever gotten. The barber knew exactly what I wanted and was very receptive. They had a good ambiance in there and I felt very welcomed. They had the sports games playing on the TV and the stylists were all very kind. I was expecting to be charged high price since I moved to a bigger city but was very happy with the $32 haircut price I’m so happy to have found my new barbershop within a week of moving here.

This is my second time coming back. Very good quality cut and very reasonable price. My friend recommended me to this shop and i can’t thank him enough. I used to go downtown and pay $100 for a cut when i could’ve just been coming here the whole time. $32 for a standard cut and i couldn’t be more happy!

I typically visit this establishment for my haircuts. This was my second time being serviced by the new barber stationed on the third chair. I like the barber stationed at the first chair, as he is exceptionally skilled and adept at replicating haircuts based on images I provide, unfortunately, he has a customer so I have to deal with the same barber who cut my hair last time. This barber who is assigned to the third chair had to repeatedly inquire about the desired haircut, despite my prior explanation and visual reference. I found this aspect disappointing. Regrettably, the resulting haircut appeared quite asymmetrical, with noticeable inconsistencies on the sides.

I went there because I had gotten a good haircut when I used to live in Hyde Park over a year ago. This time however, I was thoroughly disappointed. The razor work left the back of my neck in bruises. The barber barely cleaned up the loose hair afterwards. The bruises just got worse as the day progressed. Totally not worth the 34$ (32$+2$ credit card fees). I’m disappointed that a place that used to do a such a great job got so complacent and mediocre.

Overview: Does not listen to instructions and does not let a bloody hand stop them from cutting hair. The barber did not listen to instructions. I told him to only cut about 2 inches off in order to keep the length and he interpreted that as to keep cutting until I had 2 inches left. For context my hair before the cut was down to my lips. Now it doesn't even reach my eyes. On top of this, the barber cut his finger and sucked out the blood to stop the bleeding and continued to cut my hair. I was baffled that he would take a break every minute to clean the blood rather than get another barber to finish it. In the end he finally put on a band aid only because he was tired of dealing with all the bloody paper towels. Ended up with a buzz cut, nothing close to what I asked for. I would not recommend this place to anyone unless you want a buzzcut. You would be better off buying clippers and shaving your own head.

They charged me 32 dollars, which is more expensive than what they did previously, but it's one of cheaper options in Hyde park where haircut is very overpriced. They do consistently good haircut

This is the BEST place to get your hair cut in Hyde Park, period. As a student at the University of Chicago who went to 5 different barbershops in Hyde Park before coming to University Hair Stylist, I can confidently say this is where you will get the best quality haircut and beard trim. Service is always efficient and professional, and all staff are incredibly friendly and responsive to your requests. I cannot speak more highly of University Hair Stylist and would encourage everyone to get your hair cut here. 10/10!

Bad service. They do have a checklist for people. Service varies on whether you on the list or not. :). They can finish your hair in 10 minutes with impatience, while they can do a super refined haircuts for someone else for 30minutes, and even provide the aftershave. Come on… People can tell what you are doing and discriminating for…This is Hyde park. As for the technique.. Rough. Suggest students going other barber shops in Hydepark.

I saw a for hire sign in the window and because I'm a barber instructor I'm always scouting for places to send my graduate students. I was asked if I need any services and I told them I was just observing..... They were very busy and I was waiting on an opportunity to discuss my reasons for being there but didn't want to interrupt during this busy time. After sitting there for 30 minutes a Lady by the name of Dia told me that this was not a school (which I new that) and she was very uncomfortable with me sitting there an ask that I leave. I'm a 72-year-old African American woman nicely casually dressed, even the barber in the first chair complimented my gym shoe, so how did I make her uncomfortable? I once owned a barber shop for over 30 years, you have customers coming in just to observe barbers to see who they would like to cut their hair. This is not unusual. I then ask for her card. When I called her later she then told me some problems that they had had with Intruders and that she wasn't sure whether or not I was casing out the place. I'm like WHAT?? Did I look like a robber?? This furthered insulted me. I then asked if they cut African-American hair she express limitations in this area. I would think they would want someone proficient with all type of hair. The interest was definitely not there. This treatment was racist to say the least. I definitely understand the previous post by the other African-American woman! What's so sad is, she really doesn't realize her subliminal racism!! We were profiled, at least I was!

I was very offended & disappointed at this place. I had contact to place before I went in and a man answered the phone was very nice I asked question regarding how they cut hair and he was very nice. I went in today and a blonde lady was there my head was covered so you could not see my hair at all this lady says to me I don't think I can cut your kind of hair. I was saying to myself you can't even see my hair so how would you know. I am a black woman and was very offended and would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. How rude and racists was that comment. It doesn't even deserve any stars put you have to check one. She needs to be fired for that type of behavior at least look at a persons hair first before you make yourself look like an idiot. It is obvious you did not read my review carefully. I never showed the lady my hair and she never asked to see it. She took one look at me and said she I don't think I can cut your kind of hair. She didn't even know what kind of hair I had she assumed because I was black that she knew what my hair looked like so don't make excuses for racist people. Next time tell her to look at the person hair before she assumes anything and make a fool of herself.
