Worst hair cut experience of my life. Asked for a simple bang cut and the apprentice had no idea what she was doing and cut extremely far back on ONE side. Not only that, but was extremely rough while styling my hair and eventually gave up because she couldn’t do it. I’m devastated and left with a botched haircut and nothing I can do about it. Owner should not allow employees to cut/style hair if they do not know what they are doing. I would be very hesitant about allowing their “apprentices” to style/cut your hair. They should have learned in school, not on clients heads.

I chose this salon because of the location near my home. I needed a shampoo and blow dry due to a health issue that prevented me from doing it myself. Madeline was the stylist. She was very kind and pleasant. She made sure I was comfortable. A very clean and customer friendly salon. Will be returning.

I am a long time client of this salon, but the service I received on Friday needs to be noted. My normal stylist, Eli (who is phenomenal) was unable to continue due to understandable personal reasons. Norma came over, explained everything to me and arranged for Delaine to finish my color and Annie to do my cut. The attitude of everyone jumping in to assist was beyond amazing. Things happen that are outside our control, and to know that this salon cultivates such a beautiful relationship between staff makes me not only keep wanting to go back, but encourage everyone to go there. Go to a salon where you are cherished and the employees are as well.

I had the most amazing experience here! At first I was nervous to go in bc I had not had my hair cut for years and it was so damaged, but the stylist made me feel at ease. It was my birthday and I was treating myself to some self care and other stylist heard me talking and would come by and say happy birthday which made me feel great. Truly one of the best salons I've ever been to and now my go to when I want my hair done. They also do nails 😉

I haven't had my hair cut or cared for in over a year. It was dry, lifeless, and the split ends were unsightly to the point I often wore a hat. I get nervous going into a salon and dread getting a bad cut so I just never go. However, I had the absolute best experience at West 86th today. My hairdresser, Madeline, was completely amazing. She was personable, kept me engaged in fun conversation, and was perfect at her job. She gave helpful recommendations for products that will help me specifically with my thin, dry hair that I find so frustrating to work with day to day. She told me she was an apprentice but the cut and styling I received was top grade. I got a conditioning treatment, cut, and curl - turned out better than I thought my hair could ever look. I highly recommend asking for Madeline, she knows what's up

I just received the worst haircut of my adult life. My stylist (Eli) did not listen to what I wanted. I told her I have a square shaped face and I needed to keep my hair a couple inches below my chin. When I put my glasses back on, it was cut exactly at my chin making my face look even my square than before. It looks terrible. She did exactly what I asked her not to do. So if you want a stylist that doesn't want to listen to what you want this is the place to go

Absolutely love West 86th Hair Designs and stylist Riley Beard specifically! After moving to the area I was desperate to find a new stylist that could help me navigate my hair color/cut at an affordable price point. West 86th was the answer. Riley always makes me feel so good when I come in, even if I have no clue what I want! She takes the time to make sure you leave looking and feeling great. I am a natural dark blonde and she's used various techniques over the past year to meet my lightening requests, most recently giving me a gorgeous head of full highlights. From what I see when I'm there, all of the stylists are super personable, caring, and passionate about what they do --not to mention, reception is always super speedy and polite!

Honestly I hate leaving a negative review because this salon has been nothing but great with my haircuts, but only haircuts and the people so nice ….Rhonda dyed my hair 3 years ago, it was my first time getting it dyed, needless to say it was the worst hair dye ever, there were chunks of bleach yellow hair and my hair is super dark, went back to get it fixed, and it turned out like a red purple and i wanted a brown balayage….I went 2 years without straightening and getting hair treatments at a different salon… my hair now has never been healthier but she really fried my hair and made my hair look awful ….if u want a good haircut, this place is it….DONT GET YOU HAIR DYED HERE!

I have been going here for more than 20 years. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. They offer a lot of products for sale. The decor is lovely, the place is comfortable and clean. Norma is an excellent hair stylist!
